In light of the 'French' thread do you think these boots are 'chic'

here

I think they are. Classic-ish, trendy-ish, wear with lots of neutraly clothes....

Bouf

AmyFarrahCooper · 23/08/2012 16:51

Oui

dexter73 · 23/08/2012 16:52

I wouldn't call them chic but I think they are really nice. I think they are too rugged to be chic. (I prefer rugged to chic though!)

HerRoyalNotness · 23/08/2012 16:52

Non, I think a riding boot stylee would be classed as chic. Alas, I am not French so I could be wrong.

MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 16:53

No. County-Mum-Boots.

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 23/08/2012 16:54

Tres chunkee.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2012 16:55

ah, the death knell sounds at 'County Mum Boots' Grin - I'm still having them though.

Trills, what the smeg is the translation of 'Bouf'??

OP posts:
Frontpaw · 23/08/2012 16:56

Mais non. Ils sont tres laids.

Are boots feminine or masculine?

Frontpaw · 23/08/2012 16:57

Bouf = Feh in French

DoUntoOlympians · 23/08/2012 16:58

'Bouf' made me snort. Blush

worldgonecrazy · 23/08/2012 16:58

Not chic, but still nice. These ones are slightly more chic and already on my wish-list.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2012 17:01

eh?? How is the translation 'bouf' to 'feh' a translation?

What does it mean??? Is it 'meh' as in shoulderry shrug, it's ok-ish?

OP posts:
Frontpaw · 23/08/2012 17:03

You need to do it with a shrug of the shoulders while throwing your hands up in the air.

Are you not following the 'why are French women more chic than the Brits' thread? Oooooooofff

coffeeandwine · 23/08/2012 17:03

I'm not French and after a holiday there this year have realised how truely terrible my French is, so I can't comment on their chic-ness.
However, I must be a County Mum because I though they looked great and they are now on my wish list. Grin
I had never heard of Celtic Sheepskin until I came on MN.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2012 17:06

I'd wear them for dog walking if I had a dog. I don't though.

They look very practical.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2012 17:10

Shock at 'dog-walking' - they've got heels, I can't walk the dog in them, was going to wear them to work to look smart-ish.

OP posts:
MagdalenaAlec · 23/08/2012 17:13

it is not "bouf" but "bof" and yes it does mean "ok-ish-but-I-do-not-want-to-upset-you-so-will-not-tell-what-I-actually-think" in a French context.

The boots look a bit country-like and not v feminine imho. Blush

This is the kind of boots which you would see every woman wear in France this winter (if that was the info you were looking for): www.comptoirdescotonniers.com/eboutique/accessoires/chaussures/2802-nelle-couleur-tabac-ref-nelle.html?art_Id=11041

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/08/2012 17:13

Laurie - don't you wear a lot of lovely dresses though?

I see those boots with skinnies perhaps cords and a Sarah Lundt jumper so are you a Swedish detective with good taste in knitwear?

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2012 17:15

Grin I was going to wear them with my leggings/frock, tights/frock combination as a way to jazz up my middle-aged image.

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 23/08/2012 17:16

All the French women I see wear boots like these.

boots

Disclaimer - I only go to France in the winter and stay in ski resorts. These boots are normally teamed with a long duvet coat, skinny jeans and sunglasses.

Frontpaw · 23/08/2012 17:18

Noooooooooooo. You'd look like a wookie.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2012 17:18

Magdalena - those boots are a bit dull Blush - they look a bit like these mumsy clarks ones

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2012 17:19

Quelle 'wookie' ????????

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 17:20

The wedge buckle version is potentially a bit better for dresses.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/08/2012 17:21

Grin at Wookie.

I know, I'd never actually contemplate wearing anything similar myself. However chic French women in Courcheval seem to be able to get away with it. Slightly tubby harassed English woman stomping round Midland slum towns, not so much.
