Where can you buy hand knitted baby clothes line granny used to make?

Without costing a fortune. I'd quite like to buy a couple of cardigans as presents. Is there such a place you can order them from?

church fetes and school fetes and local fetes (clearly a bit of a fete theme here) are fantastic for them. were in london and lovely boutiquey style shops have the same thing but literally five times as expensive.

also- i am not very creative, but when expecting ds now 5 i did a free 1 hour course in john lewis haberdahsery dept, bought a book called baby knits for beginners by debbie bliss and managed to knit myself a lovely beanie hat, some bootees and a blanket. never managed the blanket though. our local libraries (borough of barnet) also have knitting groups with lots of old ladies- if you has anything similar they would love to advise you. i did feel excessively proud of myself for making them.

I bet you did!! I'm in the same borough, funnily. What I want is something made from naice organiccy wool something old fashioned but with a modern twist. Maybe a wrap over cardigan in grey or caramel? I need to start googling. There won't be anything in the church fetes near me. I'm sure of that,

have to be quick but theres a nice shop in islingotn called loop and another one on alexandra park rd n.22 called studio 108- think they sell such things. and theres aravore in crouch end but you need another mortgage to shop there. !!

IMO grey or caramel aren't very flattering colours for a small baby. Are you sure that this gift will be appreciated? I have read a number of threads on here from posters who have been sent loads of knitted stuff that just gets given to charity.

I don't want acrylic that's what my own hospital sells. God, I wish I'd listened to my great auntie more who always tried to show me how to knit.

DK cotton is best for babies

acrylic, yuk, wool itchy and can snag on oft-washed new parent hands

my aunt makes clothes for dd, all dd 's cardigans from birth are hand knitted, would cost fortune in the shops. cannot recommend enough

here. Full price stuff is expensive but good discounts in the sale section.

That's a lovely site. Unfortunately I can't buy any of the sale items as the baby's not born yet. Don't know the sex. There isn't a unisex section. Some beautiful things.

Does your local church have a knitting ministry?

I bought loads of, mostly, cardigans, from church. I got them in every (pastel) shade, for two or three pounds each. They took orders too.
