Best I could do. Jump in!

Lounger, I wouldn't worry - it's nothing that we didn't already know - I could have said this 6 months ago but have kept quiet so as not to upset the apple cart. Shall do similar until I have a gauge of how everyone else feels about it.

MiM I disabled my Pinterest for much the same reason (as people had linked to Pinterest via thread, I had been 'found' and there was some speculation on spending etc). Will change name and re-register, but the idea of jasmine climbing the fence near the decking is a gorgeous one, thank you!

AmberNectarine · 15/08/2012 12:38

Argh, drama.

I don't know, I'd be sad if we went underground, and I know a lot of people really enjoy the thread predominantly for the fashion, which is what it is all about really. I suppose we could carry on with the links and clothes chat here and then have a FB group for personal stuff? Would that be too complicated?

I don't know, I've said lots on here I probably shouldn't have, but then I'm a notorious big mouth, and I don't think anything I've said could do me real harm. It's mostly bad mouthing DH, and I do that in front of him all the time Wink

pickled it's this - I think you'll be disappointed. If I had read the comments without seeing the dress I'd be imagining something leather at the vey least...

MidnightinMoscow · 15/08/2012 12:42

Amber you crack me up, you really do. Grin

Red that's dreadful re Pin, and very worrying too.

I am so excited about your garden, ours resembles a builders scrap yard at the moment. Not sure if it's any help, but there is a 20% of B&Q in store via money saving expert this weekend.

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 12:46

I am out so a quicky.

I think most are here for the links and size 38 outnet pistols Wink

So I like amber's idea- stay and do separate personal area if people want it.

AmberNectarine · 15/08/2012 12:48

Glad to be of service MiM Grin

Thinking about it, maybe DH's family already know I am here - they do think I am a gold-digging wastrel. But they thought that long before I joined MN, so maybe not. And if you're reading this, you're all bitches, and we don't even like you anyway, so ner.

IceCreamCastles · 15/08/2012 12:54

I know what you mean Amber- esp as lots of our regulars lurked for a long time before posting. But I think posting as we do is quite reckless-certainly the sort of thing we should be advising our dc against.

Decam/red-being v strict at the moment-dr briffa approach so v low carb, just high fat, protein and green veg. Difficult to change mind set away from low fat but it works. Realistically though a life without cake, potatoes, bananas and milk is untenable for me so planning on reintroducing in small quantities after a few weeks and seeing what happens.

AmberNectarine · 15/08/2012 13:01

icey you're quite right re DCs, but I'm quietly confident none of you are trying to groom me...

AmberNectarine · 15/08/2012 13:05

Another thing I think is that one of the lovely things about the thread is how welcoming we are to new members, in the last year or so there has been myself, blue, hopefully and more. I mean, the thread might not be a poorer place without me, but it certainly would without those two, and it would be sad to close off to new 'members' as it were. Esp as you have all been such great supports to me in times of strife!

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 13:08

I agree you and Dona too (and anyone I have forgotten!). Nice new additions.

Russianred · 15/08/2012 13:10

You're right about lurkers Amber and Icey - I was one too and it is lovely to have 'new blood' and pass on the style confidence I've gained from being here to others lost in the post-DC wilderness.

So perhaps running two things at the same time, with an inclusive policy to a private group - you post on here, you can post on there. I don't know, am I getting carried away here? Shall I just pipe down?

Will research Briffa forthwith - thank you Icey!

alwaysrunninginheels · 15/08/2012 13:13

amber am in stitches re DH etc!!! Agree icey re how we would advise our children!

red thats awful re pinterest. What on earth were people speculating??? I have loved pinterest for ideas etc but who on earth thinks they have the right to comment on spending.

Russianred · 15/08/2012 13:17

MiM builder's scrapyard here too, with a few plastic outdoor toys that haven't been played with for a year and have things growing in them, plus all the debris from the old kitchen (such as the kitchen Blush). So vile. Thank you for 20% off tip - will be very, very helpful.

pickledsiblings · 15/08/2012 13:19

Red, can you say a bit more about being 'found' as I'm not really sure what kinds of problems it can throw up iykwim?

One of the things I love about the thread is the fact that we pick up lovely lurkers along the way and so in that sense the thread is constantly evolving. I'm not very keen on the idea of an exclusive club.

Maybe I'm just being thick but aren't the kinds of friends who 'find' you on a place like MN (and then hold you to task about what you've said) not really worth having?? And if it's family that have 'found' you can't you just tell them to bugger off and leave you to enjoy your hobby? Sorry Red if any of this is coming across as insensitive, I'm just trying to help.

pickledsiblings · 15/08/2012 13:22

On a lighter note, have just taken delivery of the gorgeous pale blue Smeg fridge as endorsed by Ollie - it is so lovely Ollie, so a big thank you from DH and I Flowers.

pickledsiblings · 15/08/2012 13:22

Thanks even

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2012 13:24

Oooh lovely Pickled. Nothing like a nice new thing.

My washing machine is on it's 8th run since arriving two days ago. So much better than my last tin can!

MrsCampbellBlack · 15/08/2012 13:27

Pickled - it can often be people on mn who turn quite nasty.

Red - Tom's rubbish clearance is great for taking away a truck load of rubbish for about £100 - saves 25 tip trips or a skip.

I do think its only sensible to be very careful about what you reveal about your finances/relationships/family/children on here - particularly the latter.

alwaysrunninginheels · 15/08/2012 13:27

I'm really glad this thread exists as its helped me find my fashion/style mojo again which had definitely been somewhat depleated with 3DC and life in general. A&W has made me feel like me again. I love getting dressed in the morning again. Have a much better wardrobe(bet DH regrets me falling upon it) MN can be a judgemental place where people make comments that can be considered darn right nasty or at best judgemental which i am convinced they wouldnt say in RL- yes that's aimed at the people who think buying a mulberry is dreadful- but this thread feels a safer place. Its not just fashion but knowing that other people have the same insecurities and issues.

MidnightinMoscow · 15/08/2012 13:31

Quick house question.

DS will be having our bedroom once the work is done. It's big - 13 foot square, so lots of room. DD's room will be small.

Everyone keeps asking me if we are getting DS a bunk bed. I wasn't planning to - just a normal single bed. But am I missing something here? Is there a good reason for a bunk? We couldn't put DS/DD in a bunk together when guests stay as DD's bedroom would be too small for anything other than a single.

alwaysrunninginheels · 15/08/2012 13:34

The only reason i could think of is sleepovers. Our elder 2 are at that age now and bunk beds would help with. But both my boys have cabin beds which have been great for storage. BTH i hate sleepovers............

IceCreamCastles · 15/08/2012 13:39

Don't know MiM Confused maybe for when he has friends to stay when he's older or maybe they mean a cabin bed sort of thing.

I would stick to single bed.

Picked-for me it's the chance that random aquaintances could potentially know far more about my life than I'd like them to. Obv posting less/no personal stuff is the answer but difficult when one wants to share with friends.

Russianred · 15/08/2012 13:45

MiM we have a single bed with truckle bed underneath in Ds' room that has already been completely invaluable - would recommend highly. He's had friends staying with him and we've put our friends in there when short of bed space for guests. Can't see why you'd need a bunk bed though.

suburban · 15/08/2012 13:52

Gosh, a lot of food for thought here. I would certainly share a lot more if it wasn't such a public forum, but new ideas always good too, so would happily do a bit of both.

Have just braved the torrential rain to try and find a suitably understated outfit for nephews christening this weekend. Have been to every shop under the sun and come home with 2 jackets and 3 dresses, will try on soon in the hope that something looks suitable.

Kept being distracted by beautiful A/W things. Everyone after pleather trousers, Oasis has some great coated skinnies in Deep dark red, navy and gold here

Also bought this jacket which is really soft brushed leather. Haven't tried on yet though have spent years and £££ looking for a perfect black leather jacket, but the reality is probably that they just don't suit me.

Going to do some trying on now....

Decameron · 15/08/2012 13:57

I prefer the single bed with a truckle bed idea, MiM.

I am not worried that I'll open the front door hoping for a Matches delivery but will be greeted with a crazed axe murderer who has tracked me down through the W&A thread; my concern is people I know reading the waffle I write without me knowing that they know. As Icey said really.
