This is why I ABHOR shopping

I do 97% of my clothes shopping on ebay online.

Occasionally I urge myself to have a stab at being more of a 'proper' woman by hitting the shops.

I always regret it. Fashion victim clothes. Scary make-up ladies. Rude staff. Brain-dead pedestrians.

Today I found 3 dresses that I liked in the 3 hours I was shopping. The 2 in primarni were only available in sizes 8, 10 and 16 despite being new stock Confused

In H&M there were FIFTEEN x Size 8's and 1x Size 16 in the dress I wanted. Again, new stock. On asking if they kept the normal sizes elsewhere I got an eyeroll and "It's just what's on the rail" from the surly, pansticked, caterpillar-browed moose who worked there.

Rant over. Sticking to the internet from now on. Gawd bless Tim Berners-Lee Grin

I'd like to know who buys the size 8's in my local Primarni as it isn't the fat well covered young cows ladies who were barging past me today

I feel your pain, my trip today has sent me back to Jonnie's clutches tonight

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/08/2012 22:30

Oh don't say that, I am venturing forth tomorrow. With my 4-year-old and 16 month-old in tow.

I'm going to regret it, aren't it?

BunnyLebowski · 02/08/2012 22:36

But it's always the 6's and 8's that are left in huge quantities isn't it? Confused

Admittedly a dress that'll appeal to my size 14 lumps curves probably won't get looked at by a skinny minny but all the same......why don't they just make more of the best-selling sizes???

I'd still rather wear the 16 with a belt than touch Boden though. No offence chocolate Grin. My brain still thinks I'm 25 Grin.

Good question Bunny. Why don't they make more of the sizes that sell out. Why? Why?

MrsRyanLochte · 02/08/2012 22:47

God yes. I hate shopping in actual shops - it always leads to purchases I end up regretting and then having to return. I'll be honest, the main reason I love online shopping is that you usually get a pristine version of the garment, not one that has been tried on by loads of other people

AgathaFusty · 02/08/2012 22:50

And as if all that wasn't bad enough, you then have the horror of almost 360 degree mirrors, giving views that I'd really rather not see in anything other than dimmed lighting.

Online shopping all the way.

That is a very good point MrsRyanLochte! OFF topic but I shared your crush until I saw . I cannot fancy someone that dim Grin.

So glad it's not just me. I'm never subjecting myself to that misery again.

I cam home with a pair of pyjamas and a pair of slippers. And here's another fucking irritation.

Why the FECK do Primark only do pjs in 8-10, 12-14 and 16-18?????? I'm a 14. I want 14-16 for comfort Angry

Yy again. I'm a 10-12 so do I buy slightly too big or slightly too small? Ver annoying.

Anyone going to tell us why they don't make more of the popular sizes?

MrsRyanLochte · 02/08/2012 22:58

Noooooooooooooooooooo! My dreams are in tatters!

I totally agree re primark PJs - it is really really annoying. Especially because they are really quite nice prints usually and summer ones have been 100% cotton which is unusual these days. I get the larger size and do some tactical shrinking with the tumble dryer, but they need to do a 10-12 and and 14-16 really.

lurkingaround · 02/08/2012 23:03

YES! The 100% cotton thing is why I buy them! Not so easy to come by these days, at that price. But who who who sleeps/buys the polyester crap PJs?

BunnyLebowski · 02/08/2012 23:03

I am psychologically damaged and therefore unable to buy anything with a 16 in the label. It's a mental cut-off point. Daft I know. But it means I'll never buy the bigger ones!

I'm sitting here in the (gorgeous) 12-14s and can feel my thunder thighs straining against the oh so soft fleecy cotton Grin.

Agatha you're so right. I have cried on more than one occasion thanks to those mirrors. I don't want to see my own arse! I want to rely on DP telling me it's tiny and perfectly formed Wink

Indeed, I am happy to be blissfully, willingly ignorant of my bum.

AgathaFusty · 02/08/2012 23:10

And then, after the disappointment of not finding anything to fit, the shocker of the changing room mirrors, you have to negotiate getting out of the shop (with self confirdence now in boots) past the hundreds of teenagers standing preening and admiring themselves in every available mirror.

BunnyLebowski · 02/08/2012 23:15

Oh my self-confidence is most definitely in my boots when I leave Wink Grin

I need to open a shop that sells beautiful but affordable feminine clothes and that has a minimum age restriction of......28. And all the staff are like Daisy Steiner. And there is a wine dispenser in each changing room. Which all have a lockable full-length door and lighting that would make Bella Emberg look like Chezza.

OP posts:
AgathaFusty · 02/08/2012 23:16

Yes please Bunny, that would be fantastic.

lurkingaround · 02/08/2012 23:24

And when you leave, suddenly everyone in the shop (except you) is cool, and all grey black monochrome cool, while I'm you're wearing something that looks ok in your own mirror but looks desperately uncool in the shop, and it's pink or the like. I've said it lately, after a recent shopping fiasco, I'll say it again: no one cool wears pink.

HarrietSchulenberg · 02/08/2012 23:26

I can't shop in high street shops anymore. I just can't bear the horror of a) changing rooms, b) other shoppers and c) the endless racks of clothes that all look the same, but nothing in my size. Oh, and I just can't justify spending £30 on a top that cost 12p to make. I am so, so, so mean.

So I hit the charity shops. I pretty much always find something I like in my size (bought a lovely green jacket for £4 on Saturday).

BunnyLebowski · 02/08/2012 23:29

Not mean at all Harriet. I bought 2 perfect condition dresses from my local Sue Ryder last week (one Miss Selfridge, one DPs) Have had compliments on both Smile.

For some reason I can't bring myself to buy shoes from charity shops though Confused

OP posts:
BunnyLebowski · 02/08/2012 23:30

Forgot to add. They cost £12 all in along with a huge Sully from Monsters Inc toy for DD Grin

OP posts:
HarrietSchulenberg · 02/08/2012 23:31

I have bought shoes but only ones that look they've never (or hardly ever) been worn. But swimwear? Even I can't bring myself to buy someone else's cossie.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/08/2012 23:35

My 10 yy DD is very tall, so age 12-13 will fit her for height (but some things are too short) so I suggested she try the womens size 6 .
Fits her really well as the average adult female is 5'2" - 5'4" so the height is good for her and she's a slender build.

Bloody shot myself in the foot though, they always have loads of size 6 left [gein]

I'm still recovering from my last shopping trip.
Ventured into Zara, never been in there before as non local to me. Being completely confused by the sizing, went up to what I being thick in my trusting naievity thought was a helpful shop assistant & asked what a size 14 would be. She, I kid you not, raised herself from her already taller than me shorty shanks to about 8 foot, glowered down her nose & curling her lip uttered to all the shop,"That would be a LARGE madam". Snotty cow.
