This is why I ABHOR shopping

I do 97% of my clothes shopping on ebay online.

Occasionally I urge myself to have a stab at being more of a 'proper' woman by hitting the shops.

I always regret it. Fashion victim clothes. Scary make-up ladies. Rude staff. Brain-dead pedestrians.

Today I found 3 dresses that I liked in the 3 hours I was shopping. The 2 in primarni were only available in sizes 8, 10 and 16 despite being new stock Confused

In H&M there were FIFTEEN x Size 8's and 1x Size 16 in the dress I wanted. Again, new stock. On asking if they kept the normal sizes elsewhere I got an eyeroll and "It's just what's on the rail" from the surly, pansticked, caterpillar-browed moose who worked there.

Rant over. Sticking to the internet from now on. Gawd bless Tim Berners-Lee Grin

All Saints have just launched a size 4.

Or the childrens range as I have nicknamed it.

fridgepants - What is it with the 'we sell out of those really quickly'?? I am a size 8 shoe and am always being told that. Here's a thought - make more of them if you always sell out really quickly!!

NoComet · 03/08/2012 08:36

Took DD1 shopping yesterday, had the opposite problem.
She's makes out my credit card and her debit card.

We managed to find 12s and 14s

Yes loads and loads of 8's, why? If your a skinny teen surly you peruse the kids section first and spend half the price.
My DDs have almost identical denim shorts it's just DD2 cost 1/2 of DD1s

I can't get my head round Internet clothes shopping, nothing would ever fit.

Eg. Yesterday's joys..,
H&M why are your sizes smaller than everywhere else and M&S why are yours larger. Crew your size 16 shorts fail to do up on me, but fat faces crops fitted perfectly

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 03/08/2012 08:40

Really you found size 8s everywhere in H&M? I'm a size 8 and really struggle to find things in the shops. I keep seeing size 14+. What I do usually is try on the size 10 and then order the size 8 online. It's madness but I prefer to get a feeling how they fit.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 03/08/2012 08:41

And I resent the stereotype that only skinny teens are size 8. I'm a 37 year old mum with a toddler and I'm size 8.

fuzzpig · 03/08/2012 08:43

I survive on online shopping for everything but clothes! I am in dire need of work clothes ATM, and nearly ordered a load of stuff online this week as I am off sick. I wimped out though, with my fat, wide hipped and big boobed shape it is difficult to find clothes that fit well so I'd rather just try them on in a shop and brave the social anxiety.

Hoping that I feel better tomorrow so I can brave the highly fashionable Asda etc and stock up...

I have done some other online shopping this week though - DVDs :o

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 03/08/2012 08:51

I also online shop everything except clothes. It's so hard to see whether clothes fit at all online. Last year, with a newborn, I needed clothes so desperately I ordered a bunch online without seeing them in person first. It's disastorous.

MarysBeard · 03/08/2012 08:53

I remember a few years ago, pre-kids when I was size 8 - 10 and fit & toned as well, being utterly mortified by some dressing room mirrors. Looked like I had loads of fat/cellulite on bum & thighs, went home & checked with loads of different mirrors & lighting & could not see a thing!

I don't think I've been in a shop dressing room for years, though I'm more comfortable with my body in general. I only buy on line or pick stuff up randomly & try on at home.

johnnycomelurky · 03/08/2012 09:05

I just order LOADS of stuff at once, sometimes get things in multiple sizes and return everything that doesn't fit. Also means I always qualify for free delivery. Asos do free returns and lots of high street shops let you return to the shop so doesn't cost anything and I can try on in comfort of my own home. Perfect.

MarysBeard · 03/08/2012 09:07

Yep, me too.

fuzzpig · 03/08/2012 09:23

That sounds like a good plan for the future.

I do get some stuff in charity shops (I volunteered at one before starting full time work so also got discount :o) but being size 18-20 there isn't usually much that is decent. Mind you I did get some virtually unworn gorgeous converse for £15.

BunnyLebowski · 03/08/2012 09:34

Asos is fab for returns!

To be honest I tend to stick to the shops I know my size in. Consequently my wardrobe is a sea of dresses with the same labels Grin.

I miss Peacocks Sad

Me too, I got all my work trousers from Peacocks and now it's a Poundworld instead

What I really want is some more skirts. I have some quirky ones from tkmaxx that are always complemented, embarrassingly they used to be my mum's and she passed them on... but when I go in tkmaxx I can't find a damn thing.

ipswichwitch · 03/08/2012 11:31

one you should get yourself to H&M in Sunderland, I was there 2 days ago and there was literally nothing but size 6and 8 everywhere. Same in primarni. Cue me coming home empty handed and in a bad mood

Babyrabbits · 03/08/2012 14:15

Another charity shop lover!

Got a brand new lk bennet jumper this week for £1.75 , brand new matalan skirt £3.

Lve it

Aquelven · 03/08/2012 14:31

There's a turnaround, Matalan dearer than L.K.Bennet. Grin
