Save my hands

Please.
They are so dry! I never put on handcream during the day coz I can't find one that rubs in without leaving your hands greasy and unusable.
I'd like it to smell lush, actually moisturise and be budget friendly...any suggestions s&b gurus?

To stop this I use gloves in a bottle. The only hand cream I can use is neutrogena. (Only apply a smidge and ensure hands are dry first.)

ANTagony · 02/08/2012 17:55

I really like the lidl one with beeswax in it. It's about £1 a tube and quite thick so a small blob rubs in quickly. I get excema and it doesn't agrivate it.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 02/08/2012 17:59

I read your thread title as shave my hands!

Tisserand Lavender hand cream is lovely. - smells good and isn't too heavy.

DH had rubbish cracked hands and he uses Dermasheld which is a foam which protects your hands and prevents them from drying out.

ANother nice hand cream (but it might be too greasy for you) is Burt's Bees Almond handcream

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/08/2012 18:06

L'Occitane Hand Cream with shea butter. It's one of the highest volume selling handcreams worldwide.
It's very rich but leaves your skin matte.

I'm using the Almond cream at the moment, more of a gel type but still very moisturising (and smells Smile )

If they are really dry and you are stuck- sugar or salt in oil (almond ,olive or even vegetable oil) rub well to exfoliate.
Then cover your hands in Vaseline and cover in clingfilm overnight. (Easier if someone else does the wrapping for you)
Aquelven · 02/08/2012 19:07

Another vote for the L'Occitane Shea butter one, really, really moisturising.

Cheaper & sinks in quicker, Aldi Hydro-Urea handcream, wonderful stuff for the price.

MsKayGee · 02/08/2012 19:19

The Body Shop hemp hand cream is very good.

Biggem · 02/08/2012 21:03

Shave my hands...bha ha! Shave the manky dry skin off maybe Blush
I've always avoided l'occtaine shops, they smell and look too intimidating!
Is that cream über expensive?
I am planning my first ever trip to Aldi tomorrow so may grab that other one for my nappy bag and ask for the fancy one for my birthday in a few weeks - as a night time treat.
(at the minute my night time treat is Vaseline as an eye cream...how the other half live)

Aveeno hand cream is very good.

Biggem · 02/08/2012 21:05

Also would love to try the DIY intensive hand treat mentioned but as I am peeing 4 million times a night (pregnancy) along with a toddler who thinks night is the new day cling filming my hands up would be disastrous! Wait for the hubby to come back from a work trip me thinks Wink

Sorry but you can keep your L'ocittane, Aveda, and Body Shop Hemp- they're not a patch on
Neutrogena foot cream. Can only be used at night cos it's very greasy. The new Garnier in a green tube is a good cheap option

cybbo · 02/08/2012 21:51

Dermalogica, whilst not budget friendly , is totally amazing at regenerating aged, gnarled nobbly hands

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/08/2012 21:59

Lush Helping Hands is great, sinks in well and smells lovely. I also like the Body Shop Rose one (but am not keen on the hemp one).

Giraffeears · 02/08/2012 22:01

I put lansinoh on my hands the other night and when I woke up I couldn't believe how soft and smooth they were!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/08/2012 22:03

I use Lansinoh if I develop cracks in my hands, put a dab in the crack and stick a plaster over it to immobilise the skin, it really works. I've only got a tiny bit left now though so I don't use it on the whole hands.

AgathaFusty · 02/08/2012 22:56

Soap & Glory hand food - bloody lovely stuff.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/08/2012 22:58

Neutrogena is fabulous and very very good value.

I'm currently using a tube of Elemis, which is not cheap at all but is very good and having an amazing effect on my hands.

cocobongo · 02/08/2012 23:10

the thing that has really saved my hands is switching from a liquid soap to using a bar of oilatum soap. I also used Aveeno Moisturising Creamy Oil, but TBH I don't really need it now because the soap is leaving my hands in good condition.

Before I switched, my hands would be really dry / red / flaky and the difference is amazing. I started using both the soap and oil, and saw a huge improvement within 2-3 days.

aveeno oil

oilatum soap

And the best thing is that is so much cheaper than your l'occitanes and the like, which smell lovely but definitely don't have such a good effect.

AgathaFusty · 02/08/2012 23:15

I didn't realise you could get oilatum in a bar - thanks for that link coco. Will be off to Boots tomorrow for some.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/08/2012 08:23

I switched from liquid soap to bars about a year ago, together with switching to SLS free shower gel it has helped my hands a lot. I really notice the difference now if I have to use liquid soap while out and about.

BrianButterfield · 03/08/2012 08:33

The liquid soap in work/public toilets is just evil. I often end up just washing my hands with water as I can't bear the painful dryness afterwards (even with hand cream it's just horrible) but you do feel like a dirty cow!

SunshineOutdoors · 03/08/2012 08:39

Yes, I came on to say switch to a bar of soap instead of liquid soap too. I can't believe the difference it's made to my hands - they used to crack and bleed they were so dry.

AgathaFusty · 03/08/2012 09:34

I use SLS free and paraben free shampoo and conditioner - used to find my back was really itchy and dry, but it's fine since I swapped to these around a year ago.

MagicMikesThong · 03/08/2012 15:09

Agree with most of the above, but just wanted to add that I read an article with a hand model once, and she said that she used nothing but almond oil on her hands.

They did look amazing.

CaveyInTheMaillotJaune · 03/08/2012 15:23

Lidl did an antibac handwash in a tall pale blue bottle - for sensitive skin with panthenol. I found it very good for not drying out your hands when you have to wash them a lot

CaveyInTheMaillotJaune · 03/08/2012 15:45

Miamoo cuddle cream is fab and totally non-greasy, but not cheap sadly.

I like Lush tiny hands too especially the fragrance.
