Do fat people have no style?

Thats the only thing I can assume designers must think!

I am fat curvy and want something to wear for an up-coming night out with 3 thin, very pretty friends that wont make me look like the bodyguard they brought with them for protection - can I find anything? Can I buggery!

Would like something nice to wear, have boobs and dont mind cleavage but also have hips/tummy/arse (and bingo wings but can wear a shrug/cardigan thing)

I'm only 25 so dont want to look frumpy

Quite like dresses as long as they're not too short

Someone must be able to help?

girlwithcurves.tumblr.com/About

This is great for ideas.

I love that bird print one but it only goes up to a 16 Bupcakes

What about these?

Monsoon

Monsoon Green

Another Monsoon Green

Bupcakes speaks much sense.

I used to - and still do - wear a lot of black.

Then it struck me that it was a colour not a fucking magic spell Grin

It didn't make me look thinner, just paler and a bit fed up.

I was trying to find some Evans/Clements Ribeiro stuff and couldn't - it's a FANTASTIC range.

This is also me, except I like pink. I tend to try and do fitted and colour block. Can't wear heals and do have a CRAP haircut but it will grow in the end.

IF you have a lot of black already, I think you should look for colour to go with it - eg black, with a bright blue shrug and some complimentary accessories. Pick a colour that really helps your skin tone.

travailtotravel · 01/08/2012 20:55

Oh, and ebay is my friend ...

EddieIzzardIsMine · 01/08/2012 20:57

I love the raspberry bird cage one Banders but it looks very short...

I have got this dress which looks like it would be ridiculous on a fat person but in real life I'm really pleased with myself in it (v rare). I'm size 22 and about your height and it is quite a bit longer than it is on the model. I definitely recommend ASOS curve.

I do like that too plantsitter

Hmm...how much longer is it on you than her? It looks a good hand and a half away from her knees which is a hand and a half of cellulite-y thigh I'd rather not show!

plantsitter · 01/08/2012 21:03

Just realised I misread your height sorry! I'm 5'6" and it is just - just - below my knee.

frankie76 · 01/08/2012 21:04

EddieIzzardIsMine · 01/08/2012 21:04

Banders sorry! I'd like to look good on the night but amputation of lower limbs to acheive it might be a step too far!

Right am at work with a tape measure...give me a minute!

Where do you even measure from?

I saw this blogger on TV the other day. Her outfits were great and she looked so confident. I see ASOS Curves and some other labels already mentioned in this thread also turn up on her website. Might be good for some ideas?

SDTGisAnOlympicWolefGenius · 01/08/2012 21:05

A 'friend' once told me it was a good thing that there were only a couple of shops, that sold clothing in my size, as this should spur me on to lose weight. Hmm. That really helped my self esteem.

With 'friends' like that SDTG...

Fortunately mine are lovely but one is naturally a size 8 and the other 2 are on weight watchers and one has gone from a size 18/20 to a 12-ish and the other has just got her '100lbs lost' certificate so they're really enjoying shopping and wearing tiny things (where I have gone the other way - damn DS!)

You're right Banders, I shall strap my shoes to my knee stumps and have a jolly good night!

In the office contorting myself with a tape measure now...hope nobody comes in!

Get a dress you know is the right length on you and measure that for comparison.

EddieIzzardIsMine · 01/08/2012 21:14

I think that'd get me even funnier looks if someone walks in!

Topless waving a tape measure around, I work with kids - I'd never work again!

Between 100-110cm from what I can work out...
