Have just found myself bargain work trews in the M and S school uniform department. Aged 11 years. £6.50! And they fit like a dream (think the adjustable waist helps Wink).

I am 5ft nothing and a size 6ish and bored to tears with never being able to find any fit-me-straight-off-the-peg clothes.

Why have I only just thought of doing this??!!
Clearly there will be certain gaps in the wardrobe that cannot be filled in the kids section but perhaps a decent teen range could be the answer. Is there one?

What other paediatric finds (bargains) am I missing?

Mini Boden and Johnnie B might be worth a look.

forevergreek · 31/07/2012 20:03

H and m tights. Up to age 14 or something and only £2.99

MrsChemist · 31/07/2012 20:05

I managed tO get a maxi dress that actually fits (age 13) from New L

MrsCampbellBlack · 31/07/2012 20:05

I got a great denim jacket in Gap Kids for about £12 last year.

MrsChemist · 31/07/2012 20:06

Bugger, posted too soon.

Ahem.

New look. Yes, I know they are seen as vile on here, but the novelty of wearing a full length dress that fits is something I wasn't going to pass up.

MrsChemist · 31/07/2012 20:08

Occasionally, I get a sick desire to buy the vilest lelli kellis i can find, just because I can.

Then I slap myself, and the desire goes away.

Is it still true that there is no VAT on children's clothes??

I've bought a couple of things for myself from Gap but I'm not that small anymore Blush and they used to do things up to age 16 but don't think they do now.

I buy boys clothes for my DH from M&S, mostly polo shirts which he wears for work. Was a bit embarrassing last week though as he was wearing the same thing as Bobby Beale on the Eastenders torch episode Grin

Hetaera · 31/07/2012 20:15

Yes, I gave up on Gap. It's ridiculous that they don't cater for the more petite of leg. I thought I'd found my forever brand in White Stuff short leg but the b*ggers have stopped making a short leg Angry.
I am wearing a lovely Johnnie B jumper as I type this!

Loveleopardprint · 31/07/2012 20:17

Have you tried Zara? They go up to age 14 and do some stylish basics such as cardis and jeans.

ConstanceChatterley · 31/07/2012 20:19

I am definitely not of pixie-like proportions but just wondered if you petite ladies have seen that new season johnnie b is now from 8yrs and up (whereas before I think it was aimed more 12-16yrs??) so maybe more potential there this AW?

mrspink27 · 31/07/2012 20:21

Fatface skinny jeans age 12-13 are lovely - I am 5 1 and a size 6 - also some of the boys stuff is quite good.

NoComet · 31/07/2012 20:22

I bought a C&A dress as a 14y my aunt took on look and went and bought the same one.
Aunt is 20 years my senior and 20 years on is still tiny.
I bet her equally petit DD wears teen stuff sometimes.

Me I just wear kids shoes from time to time, because I have size 4 feet.

NoComet · 31/07/2012 20:24

Oh an my 14 year old ladies size 12 DD can wear age 16 Next.

So there is the possibility of VAT avoidance there.

Bunbaker · 31/07/2012 20:36

Looking at it from another angle - DD is 12 and finds children's size jeans and trousers too wide and too short, so I now buy her size 6 adult women's jeans and trousers.

BikeRaceRunningRaceNoSkiing · 31/07/2012 20:43

My HV is so tiny she had to have her school uniform especially made.

My sister is not petite at all, but her clothes tend to be of the style favoured by toddler girls. She looks like Grayson Perry.

TuftyFinch · 31/07/2012 20:45

I wear kids clothes, so much cheaper. They don't fit but I've got more money.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 31/07/2012 20:57

I'm particularly fond of Zara and H and M. Zara kids range can come up with some brilliant gems including lovely dresses and blazers.

lurkingaround · 31/07/2012 21:05

H&M kids is always worth a look. I'm not short but have been able to get a few of their age 14+ tops. You have to try on. Good bit cheaper.

naffedoff · 31/07/2012 21:15

I don't exactly qualify as a pixie woman - I'm 5'10 - but even I can fit into kids' clothes. I have a much admired top from New Look - age 13. I'd struggle for trousers and jeans though.

On the reverse side, I bought myself a Hollister hoodie in the US last year. It fits me but, as it also fits my 8 yo dd, I've never actually got to wear it! (probably too mutton anyhow.)

Cinderariel · 31/07/2012 21:23

I'm 5'4 and a size 8 and I have quite a few things from New Look kid's range in age 13-14, I think - they're cheap and cheerful but they're good for on-trend stuff like coloured jeans/chinos. Tesco things fit pretty well too.
