MIL would like to buy me this for Xmas!

MIL has offered to buy me this dress for Xmas!

She loves the label itself and thinks that it would suit me. I have a few reservations though (like the price for one, it's a very generous offer to say the least!)

Can I have some opinions on the dress itself please and also if you do like it where would you where it, what would you wear it with? I don't wear dresses very often and if I do it's more a dinner at Zizzi's occasion IYKWIM. I do think it's rather beautiful though.

(Last year she bought me a magazine subscription, I must have done something right!)

Oh, I think everyone's been a bit mean!

I mean the dress isn't great. But it sound like your MIL is nice and is trying to buy you something she thinks is nice; ergo it's all coming from a good place.

The dress could actually be lovely. With a different neck-line, quite a bit shorter (assuming you have gazelle-like pins) and sleeves less reminiscent of a straight-jacket, it could be stunning.

I think some gentle steering is required on your part. :)

I think its massively generous offer, but the dress is pretty horrid. A far better offer would be to say to you that she'll take you to Selfridges or HN and you can choose something to wear for 300+ squids. Hopefully she'll offer this.

You can get something very similar in the hippy shop near me. I think it cost a tenner if your interested. Terry that works behind the counter can get you some ganja if you're looking for some as well.

Why don't you suggest you go shipping together if she wants to treat you to a dress? You can make a day of it, and you'll be sure to get something you like?

They SHOULD go shipping together, that would be much more season-appropriate.

Actually, it looks amazing on the model ... but in real life on anyone less than 6 ft tall and a size 0, I think it might look ... well ... possibly not so amazing ...

Ooo I love the idea of shipping, possibly after a trip to see Terry Yellow. It would make for a lovely bonding experience. Mil is a bit of a hiippy at heart.

The "designers" are a freelance artist and a magazine editor . Going by their history they'd be at least 40 years old ( guessing) . It's middle aged clothes , by middle aged women who think they can do it better than the big houses !

drag take Mil to Harvey Nicks / and get yourself some Alexander McQueen or equivalent . Do not wear middle aged clothes FFs , you are only a young woman ...you should be dressing like one unlike some of us who'd love to but end up looking like mutton because I haven't been 20 something for a long time , and should embrace that whilst you still can !
