What do you do to perk yourself up if you are feeling unattractive?

I have let myself 'go' a bit recently and I need to sort it.

Now I know that this won't be an overnight miracle cure, but I have a day off with DP tomorrow and I know I won't fully enjoy it if I am just not feeling / looking my best.

Are there any (quick fix) tips for making me feel / look a bit better while I am out tomorrow while the road to longer term fitness etc begins? (I realise they will have to be PDQ - sorry for short timescale!)

I just feel lethargic, face looks a bit puffy/ dull, feel flabby etc...

Sorry to be so 'woe is me' but if you have any fail safe things you do as a quick 'pick me up' I'd love to hear them.

Also tips on what to wear tomorrow (lunch and shopping browsing) to feel at least a bit stylish?

olive oil facial massage, hot cloth it off.

blusher.

Hetaera · 22/07/2012 23:13

Oh Wad, I insist you stop feeling down right now!
Before bed, shape/file your nails and a bit of moisturiser/hand cream/body lotion on your hands. Apply any nice face cream you have.
In the morning, wash your hair and shave your 'areas', blowdry your hair, concealer, mascara, lipstick and blush (if no blush just use a tiny dab of your lipstick to the chubs of your cheeks).
A nice scarf and wear darker colours on areas of your body you're not keen on.
Then buy yourself something amazing that you love to spur you on!

Thanks both - good tips!

I like the 'darker colours' idea.

Facial massage good idea too - might perk up the circulation a bit.

Botox

JoyceDivision · 22/07/2012 23:21

Step away from the mirror. Usually works.

cybbo · 22/07/2012 23:26

Control pants, high heels, 3 glasses of prosecco

Seriously though, more make up, ESP blusher and better hair

Isitme1 · 22/07/2012 23:31

I usually pile on the make up.
When doing eye make up I use a White shimmer shadow for the inner corners and that usually brings attention to the eyes (my best feature after boobs

WAD facial massage excellent for reducing puffiness. You only need a very light touch though. Also, wake up your facial muscles by taki g a deep breath then making a "lion roaring" face with your mouth and eyes opened up as wide as they will go. Hold for a few seconds then relax. Repeat 3 times. You will feel a berk but I promise you if you do this daily your facial muscles will relax and begin to tone. A lot of puffiness and harsh lines on the face are caused by muscle tension.

ujjayi · 23/07/2012 07:13

Oh and how about exfoliating or body brushing before your shower and then slathering on whatever body lotion you have?

Definitely do quick mani - even if that's just a file and shape plus hand cream. I always feel instantly groomed when I do this plus quick brow tidy up.

A bit of fake tan (a good one!) - & going blonder! Don't save stuff 'For best' get it out & wear it for your shopping trip.

(That makes me sound like Katie Price - I mean a light tan and creamy blonde.)

SugarBatty · 23/07/2012 08:00

I second a fake tan, or what I use all the time is cocoa butter bronze lotion as gives a great natural colour and smells great! Paint fingers and toes and wear one of your better outfits, don't save good clothes wear them!

WillSingForCake · 23/07/2012 08:09

Another vote here for the fake tan. I use a very light one every few days on my face (L'Oréal Sublime Bronze spray) and get a lot of comments saying how well I look, rather than 'you look tanned, where have you been'!

MadAboutHotChoc · 23/07/2012 12:15

Get your eyebrows threaded.

MadAboutHotChoc · 23/07/2012 12:15

And paint your nails.

Lottapianos · 23/07/2012 12:27

ujjayi, that is a great tip about the 'roaring lion' facial exercise! I do hold a huge amount of tension in my face so will definitely try it. PMSL at the thought of DP walking in and seeing me though! Grin

Lottapianos · 23/07/2012 12:28

Agree about not saving clothes for special wear - get them on as often as possible!

OddBoots · 23/07/2012 12:31

I tend to watch or listen to some comedy - Eddie Izzard usually does it for me but whatever makes you laugh. Either that or a bit of exercise, regular or 'bedroom' should do it!

ThePigOnTheWall · 23/07/2012 12:32

Can you get your eyebrows done quickly? Or give them a good go yourself? Always makes everything look groomed and tidier straight away

ujjayi · 23/07/2012 19:56

lottapianos :o Yes DH is used to my weird and wonderful approach to beauty so he merely rolls his eyes! Whereas DS2 is a whole different ball game.....he once told me I looked like the Grinch when flossing my teeth Hmm

Drinking more water just means you piss more. Your body only takes what it needs.

Yep the hypothalamus (satiation centre in the brain) sends a message to us to replenish fluids which is commonly misinterpreted as hunger in those of us with poor diet. Ensuring you are properly hydrated will have a positive effect on all major organ function, mood and skin (as makes sense, dehydration causes dry skin with a greater tendency towards lines). Dehydration leads to irritability which in turn can cause tension in the muscles throughout the body, inhibiting blood and lymph flow which not only causes bad posture and cellulite but also poor skin tone and muscle tone.

The debate continues as to whether the body requires us to drink 2litres a day but suffice to say we should be mindful of our water intake.

Thanks doctor. ;)
