Suffered badly from this last year, and with stretches and time and good trainers with inserts, it went away. But its started up again...anyone found any stylish footwear that isn't aimed at the over 60s?!

You could start wearing your trainers with your orthotic devices in again, do the stretches again.

DonaAna · 22/07/2012 11:47

My mummy has it and she has to wear orthotic inserts for the rest of her life. The irony of it - she has always had a thing for shoes but now can wear only shoes that are wide enough for the orthoses - Eccos, Clarks and trainers.

talkingnonsense · 22/07/2012 14:10

Fit flop sneakers have been highly reccomended, and my mum swears by her mbts.

bruffin · 22/07/2012 14:24

Just make sure shoes have soft soles.
Fitflop trainers are on sale in lots of places at the moment including tkmax

BikeRunSki · 22/07/2012 14:41

My podiatrist friend also suffers from planar facitis and wear Allegra shoes.

Olympicnmix · 22/07/2012 14:54

[Looks guiltily at bare-feet and rubs achy arch]

I wear a pair of very cushioned trainers a lot but they are really not appropriate for work. For the summer I've the fitflop arena and I'm on the look out for some fitflop sneakers that don't look like granny shoes and also fitflop boots for winter.

polyhymnia · 22/07/2012 14:58

Have you been pleased with your FF Arena sandals? Rather fancy trying that style.

Olympicnmix · 22/07/2012 15:02

I was dubious as shoes for PF are all a bit substantial looking but they've been fantastic and arrived direct from FitFlop very quickly. The only downside is they are nubuck material and do mark easily. I usually am a size 5 in all other footwear but they do advise going up a size and the 6 fits perfectly.

Olympicnmix · 22/07/2012 15:04

John Lewis also sell them if you want to try them instore, but there isn't one very near me and afair, FF do free returns.

cocolepew · 22/07/2012 15:06

I could only wear Birkinstock sandals when I had it , I bought some Birkie insoles and put them in my usual shoes.

swooosh · 22/07/2012 15:08

MBT's help

Olympicnmix · 22/07/2012 15:17

Are MBTs still available, I thought the company had gone into receivership?

Olympicnmix · 22/07/2012 15:19

FF Arena aren't clumpy and are very lightweight so wasn't sure they'd be any good but have been very impressed.

My GP broke his heels skiing and he swears by MBTs.

CheeryCherry · 22/07/2012 15:24

Thanks will look into some of those, Olympicnmix I also like being bare footed :( and don't really want to be in trainers all summer. Have some flipflop copy fit flops which are fine, but need some in between. Will look at birkinstocks. Thanks.

Many thanks for the feedback, olympic. Am a bit of a FF fan, so I'm used to the need to size up that you mention.

Haven't got PF now but had a bout a while back and rushed out and bought some Birkies. But I found the sole too hard, and rapidly went back to the more cushioned FFs.

The PF hasn't returned - touch wood - and as well as FFs I wear other brands too, such as Boden, Hobbs, Pretty Ballerinas,Geox, and Russell and Bromley. But FFs take a lot of beating for serious walking.

I like the sound of the non-clumpiness of Arena - definitely fancy giving them a try.

DizzieSiddal · 22/07/2012 15:33

I have inflammatory arthritis and it's completely bollocksed my feet. Finding shoes which 'work' and don't me look like I'm 90 is a real problem. I'd recommend FitFlops too - my local TK Maxx has loads (suede and leather sandals, mules, trainers) for about twenty quid a pair - I've stocked up :) I do hear what you're saying about not wanting to spend summer in trainers though just as well summer's been cancelled this year

Zippylovesgeorge · 22/07/2012 18:36

I've found that my birkenstocks have been wonderful this summer - I developed PF after tearing my achilles last summer and spending months in plaster/moonboot. If I wear any other shoes I just use the gel heel cups or sometimes the orthotics with arch support too.

Wearing just flimsy flip flops is in my past now :(

cocolepew · 22/07/2012 18:39

You can get padded Birkinstock insoles those are that ones I use.

Olympicnmix · 22/07/2012 19:45

Have always found Birkies too hard and too flip-floppy. From your descriptions am thinking I am not looking at the right kind of Birkenstocks.

polyhymnia · 24/07/2012 14:41

Another question for *olympicnmix', please?

What do you wear your FF Arenas with. Presumably they look good with cropped trousers/ jeans. Are they wearable with dresses/ slirts too?

TIA

Theas18 · 24/07/2012 14:48

I had awful plantar fasciitis a couple of years ago. I now wear fit flop sneakers in winter and (I know, fain faux pas but my feet thank me) crocs and Croc flip flops in summer. Had some mbt s but they got really stinky.

I with fit flop sandals fitted me but I get really swollen ankles and they come very high up the foot.

Olympicnmix · 24/07/2012 17:59

I do wear my Arenas with dresses, am a figure-hugging or wrap-dress woman at work and they go well with most things in my wardrobe, although not greys/purples or anything very slinky. They do Arenas with embellishments but although prettier I thought they would clash with more things.

The straps are quite thick and the shoe is wedge but is very light. I've had quite a number of people ask where I got them and they are surprised to hear they are FF.

polyhymnia · 24/07/2012 19:24

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely want the plain tan - bit worrying they don't go with grey as that's one my favourite colours - along with blues. But will try them and see I think.

Olympicnmix · 24/07/2012 21:24

I looked ages for a silvery pair but couldn't see any. Personally I wouldn't wear tan and grey together, but that's just personal choice.

Olympicnmix · 24/07/2012 21:25

Hope you like them Smile
