Mid-30s women - where do you buy your clothes??

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 19/07/2012 12:07

I am 34 - 35 in November - and find myself at a bit of a loss as to where to buy clothes.

I am a SAHM so only really need casual things, and as we only have one income I can't splash out too much - I'd happily spend £40 on a new pair of jeans but not £70.

I am normally a size 8 (pregnant at the minute though!) so theoretically it should be quite easy to find stuff to wear, but I feel too old for most shops and too young for the rest!

This is going to be my last baby and when I can go back to dressing normally I need some inspiration about where to go...

Next, Dorothy Perkins, Ted Baker, house of Fraser, and laredoute who currently have some lovely jumpers on good fabrics that I am hankering after, in the sale too!

Boutiques in my town if buying for an occasion
River island
Primark, especially for Summer
H&M
Debenhams
Oasis
Diesel for casual wear/walking

Everyone mentions Zara. I haven't tried Zara for years, because nothing would fit me Shock I was a 12-14 at the time. I'm a 10 now, so could try again, but tbh that just put me off Hmm

Just sorting my washing now and clearly should have mentioned Vero Moda! Fab quality, tops I regularly wear are still as good as new.

Like one of the PPs, I also still buy clothes from the places I shopped when I was in my late teens/early 20s. I am 37 now.

I go to TopShop, Warehouse, Oasis and H&M. The clothes just 'work' for me. Oasis is literally the only place in which I can find those holy grail 'perfect fit' jeans. H&M does brilliant basics - vest tops are amazing, especially as I only use them as a base layer. I like the shape of Warehouse clothes. I have some Warehouse jackets and blazers that are over 10 years old but still look crisp and modern. And TopShop fills in all the gaps - great for items to update my wardrobe.

I sometimes venture into Zara, especially if I am in Spain (I have family there) and I also like Uniqlo for basic jumpers and heat-tec base layers.

Would love to go to Whistles et al but I have a very limited budget.

I have just turned 37.

I shop in Dotty P’s for their jeggings and the odd top/dress in the sale.
Oasis sale
Warehouse sale
The odd item in New Look
Am going off Primark but used to shop in their loads.
Have started to like GAP as the quality is good.

Haven’t shopped in Topshop for years!

J brand for jeans - usually via TK Maxx
Brora for cashmere ( via eBay)
Joules for casual tops and waterproof coats
Boden for Breton tops, work tops and slim trousers for work
J crew and Ann Taylor (eBay again) for fine knits / silk shirts for work
Hobbs and reiss for the odd work piece
Some knitwear and a couple of skirts from Jigsaw
Jaeger outlet

John Lewis, to be honest.

I much prefer department stores where you can see a variety of brands, rather than one specific shop which will only have one sort of price range/style.

I'm 36. Mainly shop at Gap, Fat Face, the odd bit of Boden (sale stuff) and sometimes Zara. Have never been to Uniqlo but am keen to check it out as it's been recommended a lot on S&B recently.

I'm 39 and cheap clothes also look rubbish on my figure. I shop at White Company, Boden (plainer stuff), French Connection, not of Jaegar or Banana Republic, sometimes stuff from&S Aitograph range...and the odd thing from Crew, Fat Face or White Stuff.
I buy all my jeans in the U.S. - Lucky Brand
My coats are from Hobbs and Jaegar

I buy from Cos, Other Stories, Jigsaw, Whistles, Hobbs although mainly for work, Uniqlo for basics, sometimes Gap, M&S for some bits.

I like the funkier jewellery in Cos and Oliver Bonas as accessories to brighten up outfits. A variety of trainers, shoe boots, ankle boots etc yo mix and match from various brands at John Lewis or House of Fraser..

I'm 40.
If I had your budget I'd go to the shops I want to go to: Oasis and Warehouse.
With my budget it's more Peacocks and a bit of Zara. Also Next though I don't like it much, because they have short length work trousers that are not too expensive. Some H&M, but it's hit and miss.
