I am 33 and this is dress from Asos (Awear)

cat dress

I've tried it on with my skinny jeans and some dark red round toe heels is v flattering shape wise looks nice but then I have a crisis of confidence - is it just for the young trendy ones It is a little bit "fun" and not very sophis ? I'm worried people may think "mutton" or some such similar in the pub on Friday night?

hmmm I want it now, and i am supposed to not spend money, curse you. mind you £19 with a further 10% is a fairly good deal. oh dear whata conundrum. If it helps I am 38 and I have a fleece that has paw mittens and ears on the hood.

dexter73 · 18/07/2012 17:58

It would be rude not to wouldn't it!!Grin

smellylittleorange · 18/07/2012 17:59

yousankmybattleship would you think I was a weirdo for wearing then? I dont own any cats btw if I had a pet it would be a Sharpei dog (wonders off to google Sharpei puppy dog print trousers).

Perhaps I should just get over it and not give a frig.

I sing Happy Birthday to my cat and dog Hmm...

yousankmybattleship · 18/07/2012 18:02

I wouldn't think you were a wierdo. It is very pretty, but the print is far too cutesy for my taste and it does make me think of all the other catty noveltiues you can get. We're all different though - plenty of people on here seem to think it's great so I am probably in a minority.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 18/07/2012 18:07

Hmmm. I love a print, and I'd love to hear about a nice cat-print dress at a reasonable price, but I don't think I like this actual print that much ...

From the distance at which the main photo on the ASOS site was taken, it looks like a nondescript 'any old thing' print, then when you get close up something about the colours and design make it look a bit ... cheap.

Sorry.

Having said that, you're not too old (I'm 37 and would absolutely wear a 'cute' print dress) and if you like it and it suits you, buy it and enjoy!

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 18/07/2012 18:07

Good grief the model wearing that jacket looks like she's hanging from a hook, she's too thin to stand up.

I'd love that cat dress, but my email address is cat related and my nickname has cats in, my phone screen is a cat and i have 3 real cats, so I would be seen as the crazy cat lady.

ditavonteesed · 18/07/2012 18:07

oops, dexter I am holding you entirely responsible for that, mind you £17.10 for a dress is a bit bragainous. thanks smelly orange Smile

dexter73 · 18/07/2012 18:09

Mea culpa!

smellylittleorange · 18/07/2012 18:10

Thanks yousankmybattleship good to know - I do realise it is v much horses for courses. My problem is I am a sucker for cutesy pretty things e.g paperchase is one of my fave shops. I think I will be ok as long as I don't go overboard on the accessories .

I wore this bird print dress all last summer and got lots of comments about how it was very "me". So I guess it must suit my personality

now I want that dress as well, stop it now please Grin

thenightsky · 18/07/2012 18:12

I got that Zara dog blouse last week. I don't care about one step away from Wolef, I love it.

me23 · 18/07/2012 18:13

Nice dress, though they look like little bears to me.

dexter73 · 18/07/2012 18:18

I'm jealous thenightsky Envy

DontEatTheVolesKids · 18/07/2012 18:25

I like it. Would say No if it was like £200, but for £19, it's bright & cheery.

thenightsky · 18/07/2012 18:28

dexter73 - get thee to Zara. size comes up small though - had to get a large and I'm normally a medium in Zara.

iknowwho · 18/07/2012 18:31

I don't get why you did the Hmm about your bosses dress.
What's wrong with it. I like it very much and I would wear it work.

smellylittleorange · 18/07/2012 18:42

yeah sorry misuse of emoticon there should have been an [unsure] face which we dont have on MN anyway (MSE?) as in "unsure" if it was that dress was v similar. It is a v nice dress and where I got idea for cat dress from probably - we are v casual in our office which is why I need to start separating work clothes from play clothes not good for the psyche

OP posts:
iknowwho · 18/07/2012 18:46

Blimey smelly you would be no good at my place of work if you need two seperate wardrobes!!
I go to work in jeans, t- shirts, sometimes denim skirts, Reiss and Hobbs dresses, Barbour, The North Face, Miss Selfridge, Acne and Diesel, Top Shop and Nicole Fahri!!!

MissFoodie · 18/07/2012 18:57

nice print, dont like shape - it's supposed to be a VB type look, would be better in a straight tunic

yellowraincoat · 18/07/2012 18:59

The very idea that one is too old at 33 for ANYTHING makes me feel bad.

In fact, I don't think you're ever too old. For anything. Ever.

Dropdeadfred · 18/07/2012 19:00

It always annoys me when prints are unit matches up at seams

smellylittleorange · 18/07/2012 19:08

iknowwho I am trying to create a seperate wardrobe of stuff I don't wear to work - as I work part time as well there is too much crossover and I have got some lovely clothes ( although not from as lovely places as yours) which have lost their sparkle and attraction (like my lovely polka tea dress) to me as I wear them to boring ole work. Suspect the job may also be a problem but I am working on that too Wink.

missfoodie what is VB [clueless] ?

Pinkflipflop · 18/07/2012 19:17

Am I the only one who thinks it would look odd wearing a dress with skinny jeans?

smellylittleorange · 18/07/2012 19:20

they are more like jeggings really pinkflipflop I know it does smack of Trinny and Susannah though - just not good at bearing my legs and they don't do nudes in my skin colour maybe opaques?
