Right, I give up, I need a decent lightweight waterproof.

I currently only have one crappy pac a mac type which is nowhere near waterproof and one thick waterproof that's for doing the horses and walking the dog so is usually filthy and stinky. So I need a new one which fits these criteria....
Properly waterproof
Fairly lightweight so I don't boil to death when wearing it all 'summer'
Decent hood that covers forehead and stays put
Reasonably stylish, ie not like a regatta hiking jacket type
Not more than about £100
Fairly short as am stumpy
I have tried looking but not had much joy, don't really know where to start! Any ideas lovely stylish ladies?!

I don't know about stylish, but I have a north face jacket that fits all those bills, I've had it for years and it was worth every penny. Mine was a summer weight one, in a nice bright coral-red colour. I'd recommend the summer weight ones cos you can layer a fleece under in winter.

They can be expensive (£100) but the sales are on now so you'll get a bargain somewhere...

I gave up yesterday and bought a hideous waterproof windbreaker from a sports shop. It was really sunny today.

kilmuir · 17/07/2012 20:45

Watching this one. Need one too for school run

DontmindifIdo · 17/07/2012 20:46

Joules but rather 'mumsy'

ifeelloved · 17/07/2012 20:48

Another vote for north face but not sure if it will fit your budget.

PoppyWearer · 17/07/2012 20:52

I was disappointed with my one from Joules, rather hot and definitely frumpy/mumsy, not cut to flatter!

And suffered from the perennial Joules zip problem.

I got a nice cheap one from Decathlon a few years back. Their website just crashed on me but I will keep looking.

PoppyWearer · 17/07/2012 20:55

Decathlon

PoppyWearer · 17/07/2012 21:02

Can you get to Bicester Village? Helly Hansen there had some good discounts last time I went.

Abzs · 17/07/2012 21:11

Have a look for Sprayway jackets. Better hoods and detailing than the equivalent North Face at your budget.

Drywhiteplease · 17/07/2012 21:31

I have just bought this
coat
Looks really lovely on and I'm 5ft 2

Cydonia · 17/07/2012 21:37

Hmmm they're all quite sporty aren't they? Though I suppose that's what I asked for! Was hoping there'd be something out there that would go with something other than jeans or cargo pants but still be waterproof which I guess is a tall order! Hadn't thought about it being sale time, I live in the Lake District so plenty of hiking shops to look in if I can face the crowds!

Sorry I sound really ungrateful there! Thanks for the pointers, I like the look of the hoods on the north face and spray way ones, sick of getting a soggy fringe!

There's always the Boden rainy day mac however £19 over budget, and not sure how waterproof they are.... (not given in and got one yet, I might be a middle-class, 30-something mum living outside the M25 - but I do not own a Boden rainy day mac)

Havingkittens · 17/07/2012 23:21

I thought the Peter Storm waterproof jackets in Black's were quite nice. Probably best I post a link straight to the page on their website. If you do a Google search for "Peter Storm Cagoule" you might get quite a surprise in the images selection! Grin..... I'm still laughing now. Go on, I dare you! (but not if you're in the office or near any children)

Cydonia · 17/07/2012 23:36

Ooh I like the Merrel one but a bit pricey, also looks like more for colder weather?
Also like those Peter storm ones though you can't see the hoods. Might be worth a try at that price though. Going off to google it now...

Sweaty Betty?

TellyBug · 17/07/2012 23:39

I like this. Smile www.sweatybetty.com/mobile/all-weather-jacket-prodas0153_royal/

Cydonia · 17/07/2012 23:40

That Boden one is lovely too, I like the patterns. I haven't bought a bottle of wine since Christmas, surely the money I've saved there adds up to £119.....

Can't do the emoticon on my phone but 'shocked face' at the cagoule!!! Surely that shouldn't just come up like that?!

OP posts:
Cydonia · 17/07/2012 23:48

That's a good one too Tellybug, kind of a waterproof and a mac cross breed. Not mad on the colour but it would pretty much go with everything.

Havingkittens · 17/07/2012 23:51

It was the last thing I expected to see, I must admit. Made me laugh quite a lot, but I guess those more sensitive or sensible may not find it so amusing. I'm counting on the fact that those with eyes too young for that sort of shenanigans is extremely unlikely to be Googling Peter Storm Cagoules.

AmberNectarine · 18/07/2012 09:15

Jesus, takes all sorts, doesn't it? Can't say cagoules get me that excited!

Havingkittens · 18/07/2012 09:37

Apologies for my strange grammar by the way.

BranchingOut · 18/07/2012 13:20

They must be getting sweaty!

ClaudiaCutie · 18/07/2012 14:02

Def not cagoule territory, I have recently gone mad buying up Hobbs macs. Can recomment Lakes and Kendal macs which are both lovely. On sale, so less than £105. Alas, neither have a hood so that might be a dealbreaker. But lined, elegant, lightweight, look fab with tons of things.
