I'm going on holiday to Egypt next month and need a comfortable dress that will withstand children pawing at it for the journey. I'm a size 10/12, 5ft5 apple shape.

Whaddya think?

Option 1 - Nice but aren't the delivery times horrendous?

Option 2 - potentially a bit hot?

Option 3

Option 4

Option 5 - does this look cheap?

3 or 5...

1 - bra nightmare
2 - sweaty
4 - too short - pants will show bending to get luggage/heft kids about

HappySunflower · 16/07/2012 15:56

Hmm

Lots of polyester in those.
Let me see if I can find you something similar but more cottony....

I wondered if the model was 3000ft tall or something

I hadn't considered the bra issue. This is why I love MN Grin

Option 5 looks the most comfortable for travelling in.

Although I always get quite cold on planes and like to wear trousers or leggings. Also the seat material on the plane is not always comfortable if you are wearing a short dress that can ride up.

See, therein lies the difficulty - chilly plane - scorching transfer but only 25 minutes.

MediumOrchid · 16/07/2012 16:12

I think 2 is the nicest, but I don't know about how hot it would be. It's a really good price as well. I don't really like the shape of 1 for some reason, and I think 4 looks a bit short. 5 also looks nice but hard to tell the quality from the picture - it could be really cheap material.

OneHandFlapping · 16/07/2012 16:12

Why not wear light cotton trousers - chinos or something and a vest/T shirt/cotton shirt? Solves comfort/modesty/warmth on plane and coolness on transfer. This has always been my standby, and I wouldn't dream of wearing a polyester jersey dress.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 16/07/2012 16:24

I don't find trousers very comfortable on a flight tbh and usually feel less "Out of Africa" and more "Shirley Valentine" Wink

quirkychick · 16/07/2012 16:25

Egypt is very hot, you want something cotton/linen/natural fibres with extra layers for the plane.

Do you need a dress to travel, or could you have light trousers as onehandflapping suggests?

HecateHarshPants · 16/07/2012 16:28

I don't like option 1 or 3. They seem too shapeless

2 is nice

4 is ok

5 is also ok and I don't think it looks cheap

DonaAna · 16/07/2012 16:30

Number 3 would get my vote - don't love the shape though.
What I would do: wear leggings and cardi on the plane, take them off at arrivals (there are bathrooms where ou can do this). Do yourself a favor and get natural fibers only - polyester is vicious in the heat.

I live in Italy and just travelled the other way (South->North) in this sleeveless shift and bare legs. Was not cold, wore a cotton cardi on the plane, had a trench coat for the taxi ride in my bag but did not need it. Chose the dark denim color because of the DC (once wore a white T shirt, guess where DD1 wiped her tomatey hands)...

DonaAna · 16/07/2012 16:32

Oh and I always get brilliant service on the plane if I wear a dress. Would recommed - it needs to look like you made an effort though.

Bonsoir · 16/07/2012 16:33

They are all office dresses, OP!!! Buy a holiday outfit!!!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 16/07/2012 16:38

So far No5 is coming out on top, with an equal number of votes for 2 and 3 and a sequeway into trousers Wink

Dona - could you repost your link (sounds good) please it's not working for me? Smile

*Bonsoir" - what exactly is a "holiday outfit" - I'm thinking Hawaian Shirts here? Grin

Holiday dress. You wear it on the plane with a soft jacket, straw sun hat and big shades. And sandals.

Have sandals, big shades and straw hat - Lovely dress but I have a habit of getting maxi dresses caught in things. Including the luggage carousel on one memorable occasion. Grin

That dress is magic Bran converts into about 15 different shapes!

I have ordered (but not yet arrived) this in indigo and this in white I wonder whether it would be worth getting the second in indigo to allevaite the small-child/sticky -hand issue?

DonaAna · 16/07/2012 17:06

I'm not a huge fan of maxis - they seem uncomfortable in the heat and didn't see many of them in Rome (except on British tourists, who accessorized them with jewelled sandals and straw hats - in the city Shock).

My dress is a boring everyday number, sold out apparently, you could do much better!

CockBollocks · 16/07/2012 17:10

I'm not keen on any of them - they dont seem very much like holiday dresses.

Sorry!

this with a jacket

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 16/07/2012 17:18

I like that Dona Smile
