Arghhh..... £70 pounds is the difference between stylish boots and mum boots

Mum boots vs stylish boots.

They really are different aren't they?.... Please convince me they're not and that I can save £70 :(

I have the Sweep in tan and it's quite a convincing, good quality Pistol copy. I think the irony is that the most fashionable ankle boots last year like the Pistol and Isabel Marant's Dicker did have more than a hint of mum boot about them.

And to be fair most of the mum's round these parts wear those knee-high Fly boots if they lack imagination.

Go with the pair you like the most and wear them with confidence. And don't let it influence you that the Sweeps are a bit of a bargain! Wink

AmberNectarine · 16/07/2012 16:18

Can I just say that the expression 'mum boot' really boils my piss anyway? I'm 27, like to think I have my finger on the fashion pulse, and I'm a mum twice over. Since when did mum become synonymous with frump?

They'll have to prise my Pistols off my cold dead feet before I wear a fucking Footglove.

Quidco are doing 5% off KG at the moment, incl sale items.

Topcashback.co.uk probably has the same offer and doesnt take £5 off your first transaction either.

LaCerbiatta · 16/07/2012 16:32

Just bought them! :)

Thank you all for the encouragement! I would probably let them sell out and would then hate myself!

Enjoy tugamommy

madammecholet I have a strange fear of brown boots & shoes, mens or womans. Hmm Must get over it ....

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/07/2012 16:54

£2 is better than a smack in the mouth! it all adds up.

Callisto · 16/07/2012 17:02

HipHop, I've got two pairs of brown Timberlands - one a kind of paddock boot lace up style which go under jeans, great for (dry) point-to-points/country shows etc, and a long pair, riding boot/biker boot cross which go over trousers and also with skirts/dresses. Both pairs amazingly comfy and the paddock boots I bought about 7 years ago and still look good. They are both a chocolate brown though - can't abide tan (though thinking about it I do have a pair of tan ankle boots with a killer heel which I wear with jeans...)

Callisto · 16/07/2012 17:03

Also, brown shoes with a black/charcoal suit...?

bleedingheart · 16/07/2012 18:12

Glad you got the ones you wanted OP. I would argue that the TK Maxx ones may well have been cheaper but not necessarily not as well made as you are buying at a discount, you often find Carvela boots on there with 70% off but I would agree it normally works out at a false economy to buy cheap boots.

bellarose2011 · 16/07/2012 18:17

much prefer the stylish ones, just a nicer shape.

LaCerbiatta · 17/07/2012 08:45

Will let you know if they meet expactations! :)

I know I'm a bit late but I like both.
The KG ones a wee bit higher so for me I would go for the tkmaxx for 'mum' comfort.
Only boots I can't abide are those M&S black shiny things and I hate fly knee high things .
Also think biker boots look stupid on everyone..except a biker.

trixymalixy · 17/07/2012 09:11

Loads of places are doing pistol rip offs like the second pair. I saw some in New Look, but not sure they were leather.

MadAboutHotChoc · 18/07/2012 16:14

Just wanted to update you all - the TK Maxx boots have arrived and I am very pleased with these, these were made in Spain so the quality of the waxed leather is good and it is very matt.

These were definitely made for wearing with skinnies - not bootcut jeans.

A great price for a decent Pistol lookalike Smile

MadAboutHotChoc · 18/07/2012 16:15

Oh yes and I got these in black...

Frontline · 18/07/2012 16:17

They're brown. Shit brown. Otherwise nice

LaCerbiatta · 20/07/2012 12:22

Update: my KG boots have arrived.

They're nice, good quality, but to be honest didn't really blow me away. Don't think they're as stylish as they look on the website. I think the heel is too high - makes them a bit unbalanced and they don't have that hint of cowboy boot shape that to me made them different from the other ones, if that makes sense... I think someone who mentioned clever photographing is spot on. I definitely don't think these are stylish and the TK Maxx ones are mumsy, though!

Still, as I said, they seem to be really good quality and they're confortable, so I'll keep them.

I have decided to return the TK Maxx ones, simply because I have big feet (compared with my height/weight) and I feel these boots makes my feet look too clumpy, if only my feet were a bit smaller.

So I now have to find a different style of ankle boots more suited to my body shape....gah!!
