Mum boots vs stylish boots.

They really are different aren't they?.... Please convince me they're not and that I can save £70 :(

I'm not sure that one can wear that sort of boot with straight leg trousers without them becoming de facto Mum Boots.

If you're going to wear ankle boots I'd wear with thick tights and a a tunic dress, for example. I've been known to wear ankle boots with skinny jeans (jeans inside boots) and an oversized sweater or pea coat also - but those weren't zip-up ankle boots.

AmberNectarine · 16/07/2012 14:32

Yes, agree that straight leg or bootcut don't really work with chunky ankle boots, you've got to go skinny or wear with shortish skirts and dresses. In fact I always think boots under trousers looks a bit weird

totallypearshaped · 16/07/2012 14:33

Hang on - look at the photos again - the KG boot is photographed from much lower down and the angle of the shot gives an illusion of dominance - it looms in aspirational splendour. Reach up and buy a KG boot it says.
The 67 boot is photographed from higher up - it looks flat and squat and lowly. Ok buy me and stand on me all day is what this boot says.

Look at the price tag, and your wallet. FWIW I think these brown boots will look the same on your foot from above, they'll both look brown and roundish.
Go for the cheaper one if you can't afford the other one,BUT remember the KG boot has been photographed to look aspirational and streamlined, which is why we find it more attractive.

yellowraincoat · 16/07/2012 14:36

They're both mum boots.

The thing is that if you like them, it doesn't matter. KG boots I find are much better quality.

But do also listen to totallypearshaped.

yellowraincoat · 16/07/2012 14:37

Or get a pair of Chelsea boots. They don't tend to look too mum bootish.

But it does depend what you wear with them.

akaemmafrost · 16/07/2012 14:37

Those boots are bloody lovely saggy.

Unfortunately I am saving for Holiday Of A Lifetime next year and am not buying ANYTHING at all for myself until paid off Sad.

MadAboutHotChoc · 16/07/2012 14:40

I agree that these boots are meant to be worn with skinny jeans and short skirts/tunics.

Madammecholet · 16/07/2012 14:43

Right, these are MUM BOOTS, the KG ones are not. KG is not in the habit of designing mum boots, their demographic is far younger and aimed at the fashion market.

They're very lovely tugamommy, I would wear under straight jeans, with skinny jeans more often & for sure and like noddyholder I would wear with dresses/skirts and thick tights and a biker.

yellowraincoat · 16/07/2012 14:45

Madamme, that's what KG WANT you to think. But I am not a mum and if I saw those boots on a foot, I would think MUM BOOT.

LaCerbiatta · 16/07/2012 14:48

Thank-you all.

So what boots does one wear with trousers, straight leg for example?

LaCerbiatta · 16/07/2012 14:52

Thank you madammecholet!

Unfortunately with skirts or leggings is not an option as my legs are shapeless twigs.... but I'm sure they'll look ok with trousers...

polyhymnia · 16/07/2012 15:03

Fwiw think you were right in the first place.

The first pair are of the type so correctly identified in Mme's link. The KG ones are nice and should last. I like them and I'm not even a huge fan of KG in general. Prefer Russell and Bromley ( don't know if that makes me mumsy or not!).

amistillsexy · 16/07/2012 15:09

Why don't you order both, then put try on with different outfits and choose the most comfortable/stylish when you have them in front of you?

(or is that a typical mum answer Grin )

HipHopOpotomus · 16/07/2012 15:12

Brown ankle boots are just so arrrgh to me, but I like the KG ones. Does it make any difference that they are only available in size 40???

HipHopOpotomus · 16/07/2012 15:15

so are THESE Mum boots? I do like this style. I think the Cuban heel (perhaps) makes all the difference?

yellowraincoat · 16/07/2012 15:18

Oooh I like those HipHopOpotomus!

DollysDrawers · 16/07/2012 15:22

See, those are not particularly mum bootish to me. Through 'fraid I don't like either of them anyway.

JodieHarsh · 16/07/2012 15:22

Hear my motto: Only The Rich Can Afford Cheap Shoes.

Better to have few pairs of very good quality shoes than to keep spending £30 on rubbish.

Happy spending

DollysDrawers · 16/07/2012 15:22

or even

These Blush

Madammecholet · 16/07/2012 15:33

I like those HipHop but not in black... the brown are far nicer imo.. Certainly not MUM boots, as I own short and long cowboy esk boots which I wear with jeans/skirts/dresses....

I personally only like black boots if they are very high shoeboots or knee riding type boots... Anything else I find a bit meh..

polyhymnia · 16/07/2012 15:34

Agree with that. My R and B bikers are still going strong after 5 years.

Madammecholet · 16/07/2012 15:34

Buy the KG ones tugamommy before someone else does!!Grin

polyhymnia · 16/07/2012 15:34

Sorry - by 'that' meant Jodie's comment.

JodieHarsh · 16/07/2012 15:50

Poly it's so true. I've got 2 pairs of KG suede lace up shoe-boot things and I wear them day in day out, and there's no sign of any wear. They were £80 (half price). But I've lost count of the number of £30 shoes that lasted about 2 months, or were so uncomfortable and/or grim I never wore them....

Can't wait for payday cos there's some beauties in the Jaeger outlet site Grin
