Okay, you keep telling yourself that, just the bad weather......

dexter73 · 10/07/2012 13:35

They are absolutely right - if it was sunny I would be wearing my lovely trousers.

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 10/07/2012 13:39

I'm so Sad If only the sun would come out I could dress as a giant splodge of ink swirling down a plughole

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 10/07/2012 13:40

Not to mention a super special party-time sack

savoycabbage · 10/07/2012 13:42

I can hardly believe that for only one hundred English pounds I could get that blouse AND those trousers! What a jazzy bargain.

dexter73 · 10/07/2012 13:44

savoy - you are just waiting for the sun to come out before you get them aren't you?!!

BiscuitsandBaileys · 10/07/2012 13:46

Wow. Just wow. Those trousers are something else!
Yes that's right M&S, it's all because of the weather Hmm

Himalaya · 10/07/2012 13:52

Didn't their clothing chief step down just now 'by mutual agreement' ?...

Himalaya · 10/07/2012 13:54

Oh my good grief. the trousers.

ShatnersBassoon · 10/07/2012 13:56

Ah, so it's the poor weather that's clouding my judgement. On a sunny day, those garments would look nothing like Liberace's loungewear...?

EnjoyResponsibly · 10/07/2012 14:03

Bollocks!

They aren't even flogging a decent pair of shorts this year, they're either those stupid unflattering mid thigh with pointless buttons and a turn up thing, or they're transparent.

The swimwear is comprehensively AWFUL.

The kids clothes are beyond shit, if you're going to sell Asda style designs charge Asda prices.

AND STOP TRYING TO FLOG STORE CARDS FOR ANY PURCHASE, YOUR RATES ARE EXTRTIONATE AND I DON'T NEED A STORE CARD TO BUY A BIRTHDAY CARD!!!!!

HipHopOpotomus · 10/07/2012 14:07

oooh I do love these Per Una dissing threads.

Must confess I am strangely drawn to the trousers - not that I would ever buy them, but nevertheless they are strangely attractive.

I've been looking for a decent pair of cropped black trousers. Not 'beach' with a drawstring, not overly tailored - just everyday work trousers, at a reasonable price. It's a joke I tell you, a joke!

GobblersKnob · 10/07/2012 14:12

arf at 'Liberace's loungewear' Grin

Jodie, do you think that party sack is a high street version of <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=pippa+middleton+wedding+temperley&hl=en&client=safari&sa=X&rls=en&biw=1106&bih=641&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=akDbRnsORgiNAM:&imgrefurl=news.instyle.com/2012/07/03/pippa-middleton-pink-embroidered-temperley-dress/&docid=qCEGkbzFdGJnFM&imgurl=img2.timeinc.net/instyle/images/2012/WRN/070312-pippa-middleton-wedding-340.jpg&w=340&h=450&ei=Vi38T-CWJJL68QPG_smpBw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=127&vpy=85&dur=457&hovh=148&hovw=118&tx=92&ty=160&sig=103996702356981578874&page=3&tbnh=148&tbnw=118&start=36&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:36,i:215" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Top People's Party Sack, as modelled by Princess Pips?

polyhymnia · 10/07/2012 15:11

We could all have told M and S and the market analysts that their womenswear takings would slump.

Over the last few years, presumably in a misguided attempt to compete with the New Looks, etc on the high street they have filled one 'range' after another with hideous, cheap-looking garish tat.

Per Una have long been a joke (not to mention Classic Collection). But the main range has got worse and worse and even Autograph, which used to supply me with good casual basics under the Autograph Weekend label, have increasingly bizarre offerings. As for the Twiggy range, less said the better.

They really need a re-think and to go back to offering good some really good quality basics - as they used to do a decade or so ago. I'd be happy to pay a bit more there for a wearable, stylish product.

DilysPrice · 10/07/2012 15:16

I don't mind the down-the-plug hole dress. But those trousers....Shock

bunionscomingsoon · 10/07/2012 15:37

Personally -- I think this - www.marksandspencer.com/Autograph-Floral-Print-Shirt-Camisole/dp/B000NOR9ES?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_3&nodeId=42966030&sr=1-3&qid=1341930743&pf_rd_r=0EXJETKEFCAWCXJRM69M&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_i=0&pf_rd_p=215485807&pf_rd_s=center-3
is probably responsible for the slump in profits -- why would you want to buy or wear anything else from their range when you too could look like this ??

lololizzy · 10/07/2012 16:12

i heard that a certain store recently had to hold a morale meeting for staff. Feel sorry for the staff though as I'm sure they all have targets to reach (I'm in retail myself) and lots of pressure

germyrabbit · 10/07/2012 16:19

how can they blame the weather? it's been so rainy that i've done nothing but go shopping Grin

domesticslattern · 10/07/2012 16:21

I went into M&S on Oxford St (so not a little store) two weeks ago to replenish my pants drawer. I wanted to buy about 10 pairs of black cotton pants with a bit of lace, not thongs.
Couldn't find more that one pair on the shelf in my size. Millions of jazzy pairs, polyester pairs, fancy trouser pants, union jack pants, size 24 pants etc etc. Plain black cotton? Nah.
If they can't get the basics right, they're fucked. Fucked I tell you.

DorothyGherkins · 10/07/2012 16:26

M & S: shall I tell you why I dont buy your clothes? It's because they dont fit, the fabrics are cheap, they crease, they make you sweat and then they wear badly and go bobbly, the styles are absolutely foul. If I wanted to buy cheap tat, then I would go to Primark where at least they fit. Tesco and Asda clothes are a much better prospect. I always used to buy your underwear, but your bras all fit badly now, and have lumpy bits that show through your tee shirts. The knickers (sorry panties) go slack after a few washes and the elastic unravels, and the colour schemes are horrid. I want sensible basics that I can wear everyday under my work clothes, I dont want big swirly flowers and lumpy embellishments on my undies. Do you want any more constructive remarks?

DonaAna · 10/07/2012 16:30

I bet this is the very Speziale moodboard. They are clearly inspired by high end fashion that does not sell...

DarrellRivers · 10/07/2012 16:32

And applauds

crypes · 10/07/2012 16:39

Why i dont buy clothes from M n'S? Because they all make me look a stone heavier and ten years older. Fifteen years ago if i was hitting the high Street i would make sure i visited Marks' but now i just wouldnt consider it. Why is everything £5 to £10 more than even Wallis, Why?

WerthersUnOriginal · 10/07/2012 16:51

It gets worse in there. Racks of awful slacks seem to be the order of the day in my local m&s.

I've also always disliked the way they divide their clothes up into 'collections' and we're supposed to know what they mean.

I have no clue at all what the difference is between Limited, Indigo, Classic etc Confused The only one that stands out is Per Una which looks like it was designed for ladies of a certain age with a raggedy pin on flower fetish.

DonaAna · 10/07/2012 17:01

Since everyone, including politicians, is on MN these days, I prepared a very Speziale pinboard of suggestions for M&S designers. Coming soon to a shop near you...
