Two questions, and embarrassing photos for you all to snoop at...

Photos on profile.

Question 1: What do you think of the potential new haircut created with one of those virtual hairstyle wotsits? I have very long hair atm, going for a cut on Friday and want to keep the length but want to avoid the scraped back look (as in before photo) as that's what I always end up doing, no matter the good intentions.

Question 2: What make up to I need to buy to wear with the dress? I only have the same lipstick/eye shadow/foundation/bronzer that I've been wearing for the last 4 years. They suit my colouring but are on the brown/neutral side, and I think maybe I need something fresher and pinker to go with the dress? I have absolutely no idea where to go or what to buy. It's for a ball this weekend and the budget is not great.

I hope the offering up of photos to snoop at leave you inclined to help Grin

1- Not sure about the fringe. Bit too heavy? How about a half side fringe instead?

Not sure about the make up ( I don't wear much) but will look for a haircut (when the baby naps..)

faustina · 09/07/2012 12:01

Google jane birkin and go for that. It would really suit you. I think the fringe on your pic is too heavy and kind of combed forwards (if you know what I mean)

faustina · 09/07/2012 12:02

jane birkin in the sixties - not now!

miche8 · 09/07/2012 12:14

if you are having your hair done the day before the ball, it should still look good for the ball, i wouldn't go for the fringe, they are hard work, perhaps get the hair dresser to dry you hair big and bouncy so it lasts, and just have long layers cut in. The dress is lovely, i always stick to neutral makeup, with a brighter lippy sometimes. Pay extra attention to grooming over the next few days, scrubs and moisturising, nails, eye brows.

itdidntworkout · 09/07/2012 12:41

Hair: unless you have time to style a fringe, don't get one. Some lovely long layers in heated rollers would look lovely.

Make up: go to the bobbi brown counter and have a makeover. Natural neutral colours. Their Blondie Pink lippy would look great on you. To freshen up your make up just update your blusher. I love Mac cream blush in ladyblush.

Dress is fab!

Alurkatsoftplay · 09/07/2012 12:44

The cakes are fab too!

valiumredhead · 09/07/2012 12:47

The fringe ages you dreadfully - perhaps a side fringe instead?

Dress is lovely - no clue about make up Grin

wem · 09/07/2012 12:54

Thanks everyone. Ok, fringe is too heavy. I like the Jane Birkin style, I think that's what I was looking for on the virtual thingy but this was the closest they had. I'm not sure if I have time to style a fringe, but part of wanting one is to force myself to do some styling at all. Too often I don't bother, pull my hair back after the shower, and it's still wet when I take it out to get in to bed.

I'll see if I can get to a counter for a makeover, may have to go at naptime for dd2 and see if I can get through the whole thing with her asleep in the buggy :)

Grooming eh?

(Thanks Alurk!)

that is a serious fringe!

and I'd be wary of going too pink for lippy and blusher, I always think it make folks look a bit flushed

maybe drama up your usual look, slightly stronger eye/lip colours, but in your usual palette

valiumredhead · 09/07/2012 12:56

Do you make the cakes on your profile,OP? They are amazing!

wem · 09/07/2012 13:00

Yes I do valium, thanks! I need to have a cull really, few too many on there now.

Sorry i could only focus on the cakes! Man im impressed and slightly hungry

Itsgottabebags · 09/07/2012 13:07

Honestly I think OP that hair doesn't flatter your features. What about a feathered cut ?

Love the cake! Love the dress too. Maybe go for metallic eyes and nude lippy ( they did it on This Morning today) so maybe on catch up.

God they are amazing, you are truly talented!!

WRT to what cats was saying about make up, I think she has a point. It would be easy to try and match a lippy to the dress but I think the way to go would be nude lips and dramatic eyes.

Iggly · 09/07/2012 13:33

What about a shoulder length style? Then you can tie it back when you need to but not as easily and you'll have to wear it down at first. Is your hair wavy? Have some layers cut in and have a longer fringe which can be swept to the side.

What colour are your eyes? How about a grey eyeshadow? That would go with pink. Nude lips.

IslaValargeone · 09/07/2012 13:33

Got diverted by cakes, fabulous, you are really talented!
I am a fan of fringes, but that one is too heavy. get some layers put in otherwise I think that style might pull your face down.
Can understand why you don't want a scraped back look even though you want to keep your hair, however, if you mailnly tie it back, why not go short?
You have a great face, don't hide it.

valiumredhead · 09/07/2012 13:33

Oh yes, grey is lovely and very flattering.

hellymelly · 09/07/2012 13:34

I think the fringe is too big and heavy for you-drowns out your eyes which are really lovely. Something softer would be better. Your cakes are incredible btw!

valiumredhead · 09/07/2012 13:34

isla is right, you look fab, you don't need to hide behind a heavy fringe!

Iggly · 09/07/2012 13:34

this hair style?

IslaValargeone · 09/07/2012 13:38

You have lovely full lips, which would look great with a glossy nude.
Your eyes are also large and lovely, so I'd make the most of those I think.
A variation on your usual browns, with some nice highlighter under your brows, and nice big lashes, mascara not falsies.

valiumredhead · 09/07/2012 13:44

Lovely pic in the link.

wem · 09/07/2012 13:53

That is a lovely pic, but I think the reason she can have hair that skims her collar bone and yet still look lovely and long and wavy is because she appears to be part giraffe. If I got my hair cut to that point, it'd be a bob! :) I've had it very short before, but it grows so quickly it soon looks rubbish and I just can't get to the hairdressers that often. (Which is an issue with fringes I know, but, um, not sure where I was going with that...)

Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone. I haven't been to my hairdresser for ages, but when I have been she's been very good at taking my waffly nonsense and getting what I mean exactly, so I'll waffle all this at her and see what she does :)

You could have it sit on your shoulders and have layers cut around your face and I'd bet you'd look lovely.

She's probably doing that Hollywood trick of pushing your tongue to the roof of the mouth and shoulders down to look like that Grin
