Covering a cork wedge heel - ideas?

So I've decided on my shoes for the big w-day here because they're the right colour, height, style and material, APART FROM THE CORK.

I'm not offended by cork wedges as a rule, but I feel they're just not special enough for this.

I thought I could maybe apply flat-back pearls like this or perhaps stick on some leather (or get a cobbler to) , but I don't know where I'd get nice leather in that small quantity - any ideas? Faux would be fine. A pewter snake effect would be immense.

Either that or paint them - any sugestions please?

Oh, and this is the dress & this is the inspiration, btw...

You can get snakeskin effect leather on ebay easily - a bit of experimentation with spray paint would turn the black into pewter.

Or, I'd cover the cork with fabric, then do some pearls/sparkles with a hot glue gun

a bit of experimentation with spray paint would turn the black into pewter.

Yeah - kind of a bit like this

Is that rank? Am I losing the plot?! Confused

This is nicer, isn't it...

Your dress is beautiful and elegant, I don't (personally) think snakeskin would be a good idea...

I think the decorative element on the shoes should be subtle whatever you do - that is just my own opinion!

Otherwise you would take away from the simplicity and delicatness of the lace material of the dress...

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 11:25

Yes, I couldn't agree more, UML. The dark snake is out. The idea came from these which are not entirely ruled out yet. (£375 though - eek!)

What I really want is something like this but they don't exist Sad

OP posts:
UML · 29/06/2012 11:26

I like the second one much better

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 11:28

Which, the holy grail shoe?

OP posts:
UML · 29/06/2012 11:30

Sorry, posted before reading your post - I meant I preferred the pearls heel as opposed to the snakeskin heel

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 11:33

Ah right, ok, thanks. I'm talking myself out of the Bertie shoes altogether now after your comments on the dress - they will probably be too clumpy....

blibblibs · 29/06/2012 11:35

The Jimmy Choo are adorable

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 11:44

I know Sad

I'd wear them and wear them and wear them too....

OP posts:
blibblibs · 29/06/2012 11:59

No point having such a wonderful dress and not having shoes that you love just as much......
Maybe you'd be able to move the budget round a bit to accomadate such lovelyness Grin

(sorry, not really much help I know)

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 29/06/2012 12:07

these are almost the right colour and peeptoe but I don't think you'll like the heart on them
slingbacks
no peeptoe

UML · 29/06/2012 12:07

Don't know if this helps - the jimmy shoes on sale at farfetch.com

www.farfetch.com/shopping/women/jimmy-choo-beck-pump-item-10170915.aspx

Don't know how shipping etc. would work out...

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 12:08

Thanks, blib - The dress was only £129 from TKMaxx, it seems mental to me to spend so much on shoes... But they're really perfect and timeless - I would definitely wear them again.

I think I'll wait and see what the caterer's quote looks like later on!

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 29/06/2012 12:10

Look at it this way - 400 quid is a good price for a dress 130 good for shoes. Just swap em round in your head.

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 12:12

Thanks, UML - they're not quite as high as the Bergen style and gold not Champagne

I do like those Vivi Melissas, Procrastination, but just too high for me...

Thanks for everyones help :)

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 12:13

Not a bad point, Procrastination - besides, I never set out to buy such a cheap dress, I just stumbled across it, loved it and job done.

OP posts:
UML · 29/06/2012 12:14

BUt the same ones as the ones you wanted are a bit cheaper..www.farfetch.com/shopping/women/jimmy-choo-bergen-wedge-item-10181175.aspx

UML · 29/06/2012 12:15

Ah, now I see! Champagne, not gold... yes, that is a much better colour!

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 12:20

I think I shall swerve by the Trafford Centre next time I'm up that way and see if they're just as lovely in real life...

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 29/06/2012 12:22

Look just the choos and call 'em your wedding dress. Who gets to wear their wedding dress all the damn time? The next thing will be that you'll ponder and ponder for months then decide to go for it anyway and find they're out of stock in your size everywhere.

ViviPru · 29/06/2012 12:28

You're right. I know you're right....

OP posts:
UML · 29/06/2012 12:41

Have you totally ruled out traditional wedding shoes? Like these? www.libertyinlove.co.uk/wedding-shoes.html Some of those would look lovely with your dress, and some have lower heels (although kitten heels nevertheless)

UML · 29/06/2012 12:43

Or something like www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300727168089?hlp=false&var=600047298772
