Do you have facial hair?

How do you manage yours and hw often?

Facial hair has really had a great negative impact.

My facial hair problem is worsening as I age. I decided to buy a magnifying mirror and a pair of Tweezerman tweezers and pluck the hairs out.
Very time consuming, took a few hours as I have lots of hair. Pleased to report I have lost the telltale grey shadows on my jawline.

But raised bumps have appeared and some of the hairs were transparent. I'm wondering whether this is because of the four sessions of laser treatment I had and the pigment is forever lost?

I also brought the new Braun Silk Epilator with facial attachment. Useless, threading hurts and waxing is expensive.

I'll keep on tweezing. I feel so much better and more feminine already :)

Try threading yourself, there are lots of tutorials on YouTube, like

I have found that since doing the glycolic peel thingy, my facial hair is much finer and slower to reappear. Long thread about it here.

SoleSource · 29/06/2012 11:14

I have watched tutorials and failed with thnreading. Thats why I brought the Helix Threadease. I need more practice. Added to my favourites :)

I've never heard of the glycolic peel.

Just reasearched peel on Youtube.

In this day and age why can't there be a absolute, permanant, quick & painless solution :(

Theres a threading booth in my shopping center. Im in the process of growing my eyebrows to get them done. They do faces as well but its in the middle of the mall! Everyone will see Blush.

rookiemater · 29/06/2012 12:55

I have thick hairs on my neck where two moles were removed. I had electrolysis for years - reduces the strength and appearance of them but doesn't get rid of them.
I had laser sessions and they work much better - not a magic bullet am needing to go for some top up sessions after a year. If the hairs are pale and thin then I'm not sure why you need to get rid of them

SoleSource · 29/06/2012 13:01

Threading of my face in the mall would be awful.

I stated some are transparet - about 10 of 100's.

Magnifying mirror showed up my hanging nose hair! I'm a beast.

I got this yesterday

Started tweezing facial hair. Completed over a few hours per day for two days. Hair free - fourth day today!

No dark shadows. I feel more feminine and confident.

Needed to pluck a few today on upper lip and chin since Tuesday 26th June :)

7 days so far

The whole thing is a real problem to me. I pluck but it gives me spots so a lot of the time I have a horribly spotty neck.

I have tried lazer - didnt work for me because I'm too fair (hairs are reddish so visible) ; waxing doesnt get them all out because many are tough; hair removal cream doesn't get the tough ones out either.

Its a real problem. I used to wonder why some old ladies walk around with a beard but now I know!

EverSoLagom · 03/07/2012 20:51

I'm also a nair cream fan. I leave it for about 3 minutes. The skin stays red for about 10 minutes afterwards but it works well and the hair seems to grow back more slowly, whereas plucking just seems to encourage it!!

Born2BRiiiled · 03/07/2012 20:58

I have just used Nair facial cream, and found it very good and cheap.

SoleSource · 03/07/2012 21:28

Nair cream do you or would I still have the grey shadow of the hair after use? Tweezing has been the only method which prevents this totally embarrassing tell-tale sign.

I watched a programme where a specialist said that plucking or waxing/threading makes the problem worse as it stimulates the root and there for hair growth. He said the best option was actually to shave. I mean we shave legs etc so not sure why it's so taboo.

I can't use creams as they burn me even the ones for sensitive skin

ooer · 03/07/2012 21:39

Veet facial strips and a bit of residual chin-plucking.

I used Nads facial wand which was brilliant for a while but it seemed to lose its stickiness.

Have bleached in the past. My hair is too coarse for removal cream - if I leave it on long enough to dissolve the hair, it knackers my skin!

Have also used tub of wax in single days but DH is in the house too much for me to get much privacy heating it up etc.

Good luck OP it's a bummer isn't it? DH is very accepting of body hair on women and keeps nagging me not to shave my legs and underarms, but I think even he would balk at the moustache and beard. And sideburns. Blush

fragola · 03/07/2012 21:46

I must admit, I'm so lazy these days I just grab my dh's razor when I'm in the shower Blush. And Marilyn Monroe allegedly shaved, so it's go to be ok!

I am very dark-haired. Was bullied at school for having a 'tache. Have had a salon lip, chin and eyebrow wax every month for twenty years! Fifteen pounds per month now. Pluck in between [not much needed though - just the odd hair].

For me, it's worth every penny.

SoleSource · 03/07/2012 21:49

PCOS here :(

i have shaved my face everyday since about the age of 16. Since mid twenties twice or three times per day.

The pill might help but i'm too fat to try.

I'm going to ask my GP for the Vaniqa hair reducing cream. Is supposed to be fab.

It is Second. But so far plucking seems to be working for me. I still have very fine ghair I might Nair that off.

A type of contraceptive pill can help but I am too weighty to beable to take it.

Facial hair is a real curse.

SoleSource · 03/07/2012 21:58

Once a month is not bad stookie. Waxing used to last about 2 days for me. Plucking this time has lasted about 5 days. I tried a facial epilator and my skin was ripped off.

Sole - I know this is a real PITA to deal with - I had probs with it for years - PCOS - it is a bloody nightmare and screws with your confidence.

If you possibly can - do your weekly shop and tit-bits in tesco's, and use your clubcard. Save the points for a year or so. Then get SKN vouchers, and go and get laser treatment. It is not totally permanent for all hairs, but it is MASSIVELY effective if you have a course of 5-6 treatments. Otherwise - get a boots IPULSE or similar. Save up, or borrow, or use a loyalty card etc. It is crap to have to splash out on this stuff, but in the long-term, none of the other methods are going to work, if you have PCOS. Vaniqua is ok, but takes time, and dedication, and has limited results. Also try to reduce stress.

DerbyNottsLeicsNightNanny · 06/07/2012 22:24

Has anyone had vaniqua prescribed by a GP in the uk? Would be very interested to know, I wax upper lip every 3wks or so but always end up ripping some skin off, or getting spots (or both!). Am too fair for laser I think as have mainly fair hairs with a few dark ones ( even the fair ones are v.visible though)

LongGoneBeforeDaylight · 06/07/2012 22:24

I have upper lip hair and I just cut leg waxing strips into the right size, smooth down firmly in the direction the hair grows (so towards top lip), then pull the skin taught and rip backwards (not back and up). I usually do it twice to get every hair and it works, only do it maybe once a month, and hairs are getting finer too. It's 5 seconds of pain verses a lot of pinches of pain (and a lot of time) with plucking.

Word of warning - don't get carried away! When you remove all upper lip hair your upper lip will be bald, so even the fine, "normal" hairs will have gone. The rest of your face will suddenly seem hairy. Resist!!
