Does anyone know of a REALLY good antiperspirant/deodorant?

My DD1,who is 20, has been put on a medication that the unfortunate side effect of making her sweat a lot. When she goes back to University in September she will be interacting with patients every day (she's a med student) and really doesn't want to be worrying about being wet and stinky!!

Thanks:)

Mitchum is supposed to be industrial strength.

HotDAMNlifeisgood · 22/06/2012 21:47

oh oh oh I know this one!

Driclor. it's MAGIC!

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 22/06/2012 21:48

Driclor but use it wisely. Wash and dry your armpits really well just before bed then apply just a couple of strokes each armpit, wash off in the morning then apply your regular deodorant. I only need to use it once every four weeks or so now.

ceebeegeebies · 22/06/2012 21:48

I used to suffer from wet patches under the arms which is very Blush I now use Perspirex which basically blocks the sweat and I don't have a problem now.

I put it on every other night and that seems to do the trick - it stings a bit and can bleach stuff so you need to put an old t-shirt on to go to bed - but it is fab Grin

whyme2 · 22/06/2012 21:49

Also the Sure cream which you apply at night is really good. Costs about £5 from Boots/Superdrug.

If it is really bad I think you can get something on prescription too.

Driclor is good but I have had problems because my skin can be quite sensitive.

ceebeegeebies · 22/06/2012 21:49

I see others have beat me to it Grin

Perspirex is a milder version of Driclor so you use it more frequently but it doesn't sting anywhere near as bad Wink

whyme2 · 22/06/2012 21:50

Tbh I don't rate Mitchum as being that special - the others that have been mentioned are more effective.

whyme2 · 22/06/2012 21:50

Thank you ceebee I will try the Perspirex.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 22/06/2012 21:51

Bizarrely, I have more stinging with Persiperex than with Driclor. I'd check out all other options though before resorting to either as they are both fairly industrial in strength.

Ellovera · 22/06/2012 21:53

You need odaban from www.odaban it's amazing. Odyssey with hyper hydrosis sp and this is the only thing that had worked, it's a spray so can be used on back head etc etc

It's been brilliant and lasts ages .

ceebeegeebies · 22/06/2012 21:54

hellhas - really?? I had some bad nights with Driclor - the itching and stinging was unbearable!!

Ellovera · 22/06/2012 21:54

Odyssey? * I suffer with ...

Ellovera · 22/06/2012 21:56

Hydrocortisone cream is a must for when first using these products , and never ever use them after shaving !

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 22/06/2012 23:00

Thanks.. I'll get one of these for her :)

Can't use neither of these. Too much itching and painful armpits. Find them really lethal for the sensitive skin. I just use a mild deodorant and Nonchalante underarm pads.

swollowmeup · 23/06/2012 01:30

My mum always swore by Mitchum but I hate it, sure 48 hour cream us great! I don't sweat at all any more. Even days I forget to use it I don't need to! Worth £5 IMO Grin

sharklet · 23/06/2012 01:44

Driclor is quite evil and really best for occasional use. It can do quite some damage and increase sensitivity of the skin if overused.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/06/2012 11:44

Put whatever you choose on at night as well as in the day.

If they dont work try botox.

danne · 23/06/2012 12:28

If my sweating becomes unbearable I would consider botox as it seems to be the last resort. It's not cheap though. At the moment I'm ok with underarm pads.

janmoomoo · 23/06/2012 22:25

Mitchum did nothing for me. Driclor seems best and Perspirex is quite good. But they STING - have been known to get up after half an hour to wash it off! There was talk on here about getting drunk so you could put it on and sleep! Top tip I found is to dry armpits thoroughly with hairdryer before and after applying. It does work tho.

alisound · 24/06/2012 19:01

Done that but still itching. They are just wild beasts for the sensitive armpits.

RayofSun · 24/06/2012 19:30

Not sure if this is up your street but Botox is available for the reduction of sweating of the armpits. You might want to consider looking into it as although it is pricier than you average deodorant (!), it is going to have a much more reliable and long lasting effect.

TheHappyCamper · 24/06/2012 19:40

I used to have this problem as a teenager. I tried Driclor for a couple of months and it cured me! Shock I just use ordinary right guard now.

tiokiko · 24/06/2012 20:05

Same here - I used Driclor for about 4 weeks several years ago and it worked like magic, can use anything now and am v unsweaty!

But it was super itchy at first, no rash or bad reaction but it felt pretty strong. Definitely did the job though and I would really recommend.

laneb · 24/06/2012 20:45

Another vote for Nonchalante pads. Aluminium based compounds are used as active ingredient in antiperpirants and it can't be very healthy solution.
