Which season do you think I am?!

Aloha31 · 08/06/2012 08:59

Thank you! Maybe something to do with becoming a mum in the last year, I want to treat myself to new clothes and am suddenly interested in knowing my "season"?!!?

Can anyone help? I've posted a few pics on my profile - let me know they are visible!

Yes, although I was told that one is often "drawn" to colours that suit you. Not sure about that myself, if the number of people I see wearing black and grey when they shouldn't is anything to go by.

But dh is a winter, to my spring, and when our clothes are hung in rails one above the other in the wardrobes, I am not in the slightest bit drawn to his colours. No nicking of his sweaters for me if I could only fit into them

My dd is a winter also - when she was younger she was furious about this, as she wanted the "pretty" colours. But now she's a teen, she's glad to be able to look stunning in black.

For all Summers out there, this is a great resource:
colorconnection.yuku.com/topic/1049#.T9Mx2xBhiSM

You may have dull, mousey hair and a face that tends to look drained of color, even pasty. The right colors will make all the difference. I get lots of compliments from passers-by these days.

Although most style manuals speak about muted colors when they mention Summer, bright monochromes (bright red shift dresses, bright watermelon red and coral tops, bright bluish green) look stunning on me. Navy and almost black charcoal grey are my best neutrals.

TracyK · 09/06/2012 14:20

I wasn't so much transformed by putting on the right colours - more that if I now put on the wrong colour of something I used to wear - I can see it looks worse.
I would say most of my favourite items of clothing happen to either be an autumn colour of have an autumn colour in the pattern, purely by accident.
But if you are diagnosed as a completely different colour palette to normal - you will have to change makeup too.
I can see now that I have tried to change over the years - but not all at the same time eg change my makeup - but clothes didn't blend in, or change hair but not changing makeup and clothes at the same time meant - nothing worked particularly well.
Have you got a birthday coming up soon that you could ask for vouchers?

orangeandlemons · 09/06/2012 15:25

I find as a summer, it's veryvery difficult to wear darks properly.

I suit an indigo (but not navy) dark teal, but grey, maroon, plum, burgandy, all the summer darks look shite on me. Blacks, browns, neutrals look even worse. Bottle green looks nice, but is never ever in fashion.

Do any other summers have this problem?

Ha, lipstick there's a one. Summers IIRC need brightening up, so I find wishy washy nude coloursmake me look washed out.

I have a certain colour in mimd that I look eveywhere for, but rarely find. A sort of pinky but with really strong blue undertones. It's really hard to find, and sounds awful in the description, but it has just enough colour to lift complexion. Sheer rather than full-on lippy. Crimson can look good, and bluey reds, but corals, watermelons, nude natural looking browns andd flesh colours make me look ill. Some make-up brands do cool and warm colour.

orangeandlemons · 09/06/2012 20:00

Am still searching for perfect nude for summers 10 years on..........

orangeandlemons · 09/06/2012 20:03

Last message....have looked everywhere, online, google, eveything.

I wasted time and £'s in purchases and stressed out dashing into town every morning looking for clothese for a very posh wedding weekend. (shopping alone with no one to join me)

I can highly recommend House of Colour. Luckily, I was able to get seen fairly quickly. I had the initial 'Season' done first, taking along some outfits for selection or rejection. Advice and tips were enthusiastically given and so I decided to have the whole thing done - my colours first then a few weeks later Clothes styles/body shape and finally a make up session. Worth every penny in my opinion. People have noticed something is different and the compliments come thick and fast.

Its only a few months on but I feel great about myself and more confident.

Shopping is easier as I go straight to the colours and styles that make me look my best.

Am so curious now and think it'll save a lot of money in the long run (I'm crap and never really invested much thought or money in what I wear before). So, I'll make an appointment soon!

Any predictions?!

Cool winter.

Aloha31 · 06/07/2012 19:25

I am deep and warm! Deep autumn in the old system!

OP posts:
itdidntworkout · 06/07/2012 20:00

Interesting. Looking at your photos, I wouldn't have said that olive/ terracotta colours suited you.

This link is for you: www.seasonalcoloranalysis.net/2012/01/january-jumpstart-deep-autumn-30-for-30.html

What do you think?

HerMajestyQueenHillyzabethII · 06/07/2012 20:08

I think you are a Winter but with slight shades of Autumn (all the best people are. Wink)

I can't see your eyes too clearly but I bet you look best in strong jewel colours like emerald, turquoise, ruby, claret, hot/deep pink, sapphire and lapis blue, and of course, black and white.

You can probably wear most browns, olive, heather and camel as well but I bet you look like a cadaver in beige/natural, baby blue, pale peach, and pale grey, and cream next to your skin rather than white is a big No No.

Aloha31 · 07/07/2012 06:55

I have a lot of red in my hair, and dark hazel eyes which is where the autumn rather than winter comes from! You are right, though, majesty, apart from the white. All whites and creams are OK apart from pure white. Pale peach, pastels etc are a no no.

She added a "clear" swatch to my colour wallet, too. I was surprised, it's not all terracotta etc! It's strong, vibrant colours, teal, pine, lapis, primrose, chocolate...

Sorry, I commented before I'd seen that you'd been and gorn and done it!

Which company did you use? I'd like to have it done but I don't know who to pick. I'm also quite interested in training as a consultant - I jus think it's something I'd be a natural at. The courses are expensive though so I want to make sure I choose the right one to go with. I suppose I should try them all as a customer and go with the one I think is best but that might be expensive research above and beyond the call of duty and my bank balance. Confused

Everybody talk to me about the format of their experiences please!

How do they differ in their categorisation? I'm wondering if it's possible to train with one of the well known companies and then have your own swatches and literature made up and go independent.

MotherSeal · 07/07/2012 09:40

Hello.

I'm getting interested in this colour business too as I've worn only black and other dark colours most of my life and never ever been complimented. I've started suspecting black might not be my colour after all...

Could someone with higher knowledge check out my profile picture and tell me what they think? Please! I tan easily but in the winter I'm very pale. My eyes are dark green, which might not show in the picture. I'm without any make up and that's my natural hair colour.

Sorry for any grammar errors, I'm not a native speaker.

Thanks for help!

Aloha31 · 07/07/2012 10:14

I did it with Colour me Beautiful Ireland, it was great fun.

Deep autumn is towards winter anyway, so that makes sense that people thought I was winter too. You can't see that my eyes are hazel on the photos, or the red in my hair.

I went with a friend who people would say we have similar colourings, but she was clear and cool!

Not sure what 'colours' you are MotherSeal, think you need to get the drapes to see properly!

OP posts:
HerMajestyQueenHillyzabethII · 07/07/2012 12:38

You look almost identical colouring to me MS although I am starting to realise it is not as easy to diagnose others or yourself as I thought! I would still plump for winter, though if pushed. I would say you are probably a cool rather than a warm, but heck, I'm just making this up now. Grin

itdidntworkout · 07/07/2012 13:30

Motherseal: Warm autum, I'd say?

DonaAna · 07/07/2012 13:31

MotherSeal you would definitely need a proper draping. You might be Soft something, but I couldn't really tell. You have dressed in Winter colors but your face is low contrast - so I think you are not a Winter. Soft Summer? Soft Autumn? Recommend a consultation. Had mine a year ago and it was really worthwhile.

DonaAna · 07/07/2012 13:43

Not sure if this link was mentioned earlier but it's a good starting point.

MotherSeal · 07/07/2012 14:19

Mmm, thanks everyone who replied! I've been comparing myself to lots of pictures on different sites, but still haven't found examples that would match my colouring. Will investigate further! Thanks for links!

Maybe some day I'll have courage to abandon black...

itdidntworkout · 07/07/2012 14:46

Mother seal, why don't you try charcoal or navy instead of black?
