Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this; I usually use a Chanel eyeshadow base which is pearlescent white like a liquid when it goes on and then dries to almost a powder, it makes my eyeshadow look so much deeper and last all day... but apparently it has been discontinued with no alternative product, so if anyone uses an amazing eyeshadow base or primer which does the same thing could you please tell me what it is as my eye make up looks rubbish today Grin

Urban Decay Primer Potion is fab BUT being on maternity leave I have found a great cheap alternative which is a thin layer of Sudocrem/nappy cream! Trust me, it works and sooooo much cheaper.

ministryofsleep · 05/06/2012 10:53

Ooh thanks; is the urban decay this one as I've just been looking at it, but I do have some sudacrem somewhere so will dig that out for now! Thanks Smile

I also use and love the urban decay one. Found out about it on here and it's brilliant. Trying sudocrem as an alternative sounds a good idea too.

ministryofsleep · 05/06/2012 11:04

Thanks, have just ordered this elf primer for £3.15 from ebay, the reviews say it's almost identical to the urban decay one so for £3 thought it was worth a try! Will report back if it's any good, if not I'll be buying the urban decay one. Knew Mumsnet would come up trumps - thanks again!

Urban Decay is ace, although I only use it when using certain eyeshadows. Mostly I use Bobbi brown cream shadows and find I don't need a primer.

DO NOT, repeat NOT use sudocrem on your eyes, the eye area is very sensitive and it is thick, sticky and full of chemicals.

Househunter · 05/06/2012 11:10

Yes please let us know if the Elf one is any good. Could save £££!

valiumredhead · 05/06/2012 11:12

So is most make up fifity Grin

BrianButterfield · 05/06/2012 11:14

You do know the Urban Decay stuff is made of chemicals too, right?

muddykittenheels · 05/06/2012 11:38

Another vote for urban decay here too. You don't need much though - just a little slick is enough

HazleNutt · 05/06/2012 12:03

opened the thread to recommend Urban Decay as well but I see the job has been done :)

Pinkglow · 05/06/2012 12:49

Apparently the MUA one is good, I'm going to purchase it when my Urban Decay one runs out

FiftyShadesofViper · 05/06/2012 13:19

I know everything has chemicals in, I phrased that badly, but surely products designed to go around the eyes are designed for that purpose, Sudocrem is not and I suspect even its manufacturers would not advise it near the eyes.

I have to declare an irrational hatred of Sudocrem. I have worked in healthcare for many years and have seen lots of cases where it has been used (admittedly often inappropriately) and horrible skin problems have resulted.

GrooveIsInTheFart · 05/06/2012 13:20

I use lemon aide from benefit

LulaPalooza · 05/06/2012 13:22

I use an Elizabeth Arden one which is fab. It's a small tube but lasts ages - although I don't wear eyeshadow every day

ElizaDoMore · 05/06/2012 13:36

I can vouch for elf mineral eyelid primer. Fab stuff!

pinguthepenguin · 05/06/2012 14:34

Mac paint pot in 'painterly'

Amazing stuff, couldn't live without it. Looks fab on it's own as well as covers up my minging veiny lids Grin

MadameOvary · 05/06/2012 15:47

Free BeneFit primer in Glamour this month if that's any good? (Other options are pore minimiser or Mascara)

DonaAna · 05/06/2012 18:06

Artdeco is better and cheaper than Urban Decay. I have both but UD feels thick and strange on my lids.

ministryofsleep · 06/06/2012 18:45

Thanks ElizaDoMore, if it does the job it'll save me a fortune Smile

fifty tell us about the sudocream - I use it on spots and eczema.

lololizzy · 06/06/2012 20:37

Sudocrem wrecked my skin. I am oily but was left with dry flakes for weeks that no amount of exfoliating would shift. It's taken months for my cheeks to look normal again.

lololizzy · 06/06/2012 20:38

Painterly doesn't work on me. I do have oily lids so is probably fine for dry skins. But everything slid v quickly for me , using that

lololizzy · 06/06/2012 20:38

i think the benefit primer's going to be for face only? if it's That Gal. I know they do Stay Don't Stray for eyes but havent tried myself

Havingkittens · 06/06/2012 21:48

I like the Urban Decay one too.

I just wanted to say too, milia are caused by using products that are too thick and rich for the eye area, even if they have been designed for use on the face. Sudocreme has not been through any R&D tests for use on the face and is thick and gunky so more than likely a candidate for causing milia.

Regardless of milia, do you not regard your actual eyes as quite precious? Why would you regularly risk using something that hasn't been safety checked for use around they eyes? Same goes for pile cream. Also not designed or tested for eyes! Amazing how people are compelled to use two particular products, both designed primarily for your arse, on your eyes!

FiftyShadesofViper · 07/06/2012 00:02

Agree with you absolutely Havingkittens. I would not put Sudocrem near my eyes.

*hatty( I suspect a lot of the problems I have seen are just bad skin irritations due to people using it inappropriately as it is very thick and sticky stuff and, unlike other products, seems to inspire people to use it for all sorts of odd things. It is so heavy it can often aggravate spots and keep the heat in burns and sunburn which doesn't help them heal. I have seen some horrendous cases of nappy rash as people slap it on, it transfers onto the surface of the nappy and stops the nappy absorbing so making everything worse. Modern, disposable nappies are not designed for use with such gunk. Having said all of that, that is just my personal experience and opinion, some people clearly swear by it Hmm
