Mine needs inspiration! He wears shirt/jeans/brown shoes OR polo-shirt/jeans/trainers

It's the cut that makes the difference. a slimmer cut in everything will make it all look more modern. my H only wear polo shirts and trousers but very slim fitting

TheCountessOlenska · 31/05/2012 22:59

Mmm, yes I think you're right there cybbo thanks.

Like my jeans/trousers have got skinnier over recent years, but his haven't! What shops/labels would you recommend?

MmeLindor. · 31/05/2012 23:02

Gant, Boss (although only for tall lads, DH is too short for most of their stuff), Rene Lezard, Strenesse

And, yes slim fit looks much better than the sloppy banker stripy shirts (see Boden).

MoonlightandRoses · 31/05/2012 23:06

Ralph Lauren for trousers if he's short. M&S can also be good, but their quality has gone downhill recently so you really need to look.

Paul Smith, John Smedley, Ted Baker for jumpers and tops

Kenzo for shirts.

Also, if you're ever in Spain there's a great shop called Cortefiel for smart, inexpensive (and long-lasting) basics.

Moanranger · 31/05/2012 23:10

Count your blessings! My DH wears shirts that appear to have been cut from Italian restaurant tablecloths, ONLY brown or black socks, with or without sandals or brown shoes -of which he has Imelda Marcos quantities- you get the picture. I have in the past shopped with him for suits to avoid the shiny door to door salesman look he would purchase in my absence. I have now given up -hey, I'm not his mother - & if he's really awful, I send him back to change or walk 3 steps behind/ in front. Good luck!

Freshletticia · 31/05/2012 23:17

Mine wears cords or moleskin straight trousers, checked shirt, cashmere v-jumper and fleece for work (government and agriculture) which is a bit of a uniform. But at home his default is old moleskins or combats and ancient baggy holey checky shirt and ancient stinky bodywarmer. He does have naice jeans and stuff and a tidy bum in them but I'm buggered if I can get him into them as we rarely go out. I suggested his shirts needed updating to slimmer fit / linen etc and he just moans that they are expensive ( cue the man who spends effin' zero on clothes but will happily spend hundreds on shooting gear).

DinahMoHum · 01/06/2012 08:11

he wears combats and tshirts, Vans trainers

cybbo · 01/06/2012 08:12

My H gets ALL his gear in unique. The cut suits him

he also has developed a penchant for Austin Reed (ponce)

cybbo · 01/06/2012 08:13

UNIQLO

clippityclop · 01/06/2012 08:36

DH is M&S Blue Harbour man at weekend, and then the M&S Italian stuff for work, cashmere jumpers in between.

noddyholder · 01/06/2012 08:41

Gap,uniqlo, levis, zara. he is 51 but v slim and looks a lot younger Wears slim fitting everything thing really. Wears blunstone boots converse etc. Likes long sleeved t shirts and slim jeans also wears skinny type plain coloured chino/trousers. Has the odd rock and roll t shirt that i try to bin now and then Grin.

knackeredmother · 01/06/2012 08:48

I'm married to a 'mod dad'.
Lives in Paul Smith jeans, Paul smith t shirts, John smedleys, Ralph Lauren/Fred perry polo shirt, desert boots. Occasional Hugo Boss/pretty green/one true Saxon stuff but mainly Paul Smith.
Standard uniform of all his friends too (hes 42).

AgeingFop · 01/06/2012 09:17

I'm a DH. Tend to wear skinny-ish jeans or chinos, checked-shirts (not too table-cloth like, I hope!) and t-shirts without brand names (just a thing I have). Desert boots, brogues or Converse depending on situation. Currently contemplating getting some of the coloured jeans that are appearing in men's shops.

cybbo is right, men's jeans/trousers have been getting skinnier for few years so baggy/boot-cut (that was in) is now looking dated. I like Urban Outfitters for jeans and t-shirts, but River Island and even Primark can be good. Next is dull, dull, dull for men's clothes.

keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 01/06/2012 09:31

not much help here as my DH wears the same:

Jeans, with ugg boots in winter, trainers in summer and always round neck cartoon/slogan type tshirt featuring thundercats/transformers/turtles etc delete as appropriate!
He is 26 Blush

teanosugar · 01/06/2012 09:36

according to my rugby playing, body building son, River Island make the best fit jeans and trousers for the 'more muscular of thigh'.

DH has beyond no interest in clothes.

TheCountessOlenska · 01/06/2012 09:47

Thanks all - some good ideas here!

Will check out Uniqlo and the labels mentioned.

I can't really see him in skinny jeans/trousers - he's more "preppy" than trendy iyswim - but slimmer fitting definitely!

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 01/06/2012 10:21

God I envy those of you whose husbands are interested in clothes!

I'm not very fashion conscious, but my DH is a disaster. Shorts and T shirts ALL year round. Thinks being forced to wear jeans is dressing up! he's 50 but really fit and a great shape and I have been trying to get him into slimmer fitting polos etc for years. He would happily wear a bin liner he cares so little:(

madmomma · 01/06/2012 11:55

Look girls this is all very nice but my DH wears Warner Bros t-shirts!!!!!!!
Wtf?
Where can I even begin??

ShatnersBassoon · 01/06/2012 11:59

Tops have to have a collar. That's his only rule. He wouldn't wear a T-shirt, it makes him feel scruffy and like he's trying to look young.

MoonlightandRoses · 01/06/2012 19:32

mad - the only solution to that is to accidentally get paint/stains on when using them for gardening/DIY, leave them in bleach for far too long a bit longer than you should have, and the resultant holey mess is unwearable unless your DP is into the Rab C. Nesbitt string vest look.

Not something I did on a regular basis until he got the message, oh no Grin

cocolepew · 01/06/2012 19:49

My DH wears jeans Converse and any motorbike type t-shirt/top Hmm

Mombojombo · 01/06/2012 19:58

Saggy arsed jeans with trodden down hems and a stripey polo shirt, orrrr saggy arsed jeans with trodden down hems and a geeky/in-jokey/obscure movie reference t-shirt. Every day. "Luckily" he has MANY stripey polo shirts & geeky/in-jokey/obscure movie reference t-shirts. Sigh.

BrandyAlexander · 01/06/2012 19:58

Dh is a preppy dresser too - Gant, Ralph Lauren, Abercombie are his favourites. He likes Zara too, occasional Kenneth Cole New York. As I say preppy but he wears it well!

Way, way more expensive clothes than I do Hmm
He also buys shoes, hides them then lies about how much they cost. I think he was me in a past life.

Basics from uniqlo mainly. Work stuff from jaeger and shoes from church's.
Casual trousers and shorts from Ralph Lauren, chinos and shirts from brooks brothers. Acne jeans.

Blazer jackets from engineered garments.

The other trick he uses is to get all trouser and jeans tapered at an alterations company to slim fitting so they fit well.

Reading this back and adding it up in my head now makes me realise why we are always skint.
