Fake Tan

LittlebearH · 31/05/2012 02:57

Every year I vow never again. But I have very dark hair, blue eyes yet I am very very pale. So much so that I have been consious of it since my early teens. Strangers have commented on it too. Do I bath in bleach? You would be gorgeous if you weren't so pale etc.

I have had a slight tan in the past due to excessive sun beds but since I I got pregnant 3 years ago have given them a miss.

I am not a lovely pale like Liv Tyler or redheads. More of a blueish tinge like corned beef. Not helped by the fact I have very transparent skin like a road map. No nurse has ever had a problem finding a vein on me.

Anyway..I have tried loads of fake tans and thrown a lot of money at it, this year since tried the best fake tan (Vita Liberata - you can see where you are putting it) recommended on MN and also invested in a mit with the promise my annual fake tan disasters would be a thing of the past.

The end result is much better...but my legs and feet seem to reject it. It still looks patchy and streaky and my knees, ankles general feet look awful.

I see these very fake tanned women (TOWIE) seem to have mastered it. No I wont go to a salon as it is bad enough to get naked in front of DP.

Anyone got any fool proof advice? Anyone have the same problem or is it just my legs that are allergic to self tanning??

Sorry this is a bit long...if you are still reading!

Your skin is exactly the colour it is supposed to be! Don't join the ranks of the oompa loompas. That colour is not found in nature.

Wear colours that suit you and waft about looking pale and interesting. Grin

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/06/2012 17:42

oh ive gone and oompa loompad.....ive bought for the princely sum of £2.99 the st moritz stuff from Savers.....i will report back when ive got pissed enough to try it....Grin

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/06/2012 22:47

well....so far so good. i will shower it off in the morning. DD already looks a lovely caramel colour....

ThatVikRinA22 · 03/06/2012 11:02

well the st moritz stuff has worked better than any other type ive tried - its tanned me lightly and evenly. i used to use the St Tropez everyday moisturiser with a hint of tan for £15!! and ive tried the St Tropez spray tans too - the St Moritz is definitely better!

good stuff! i used the medium mousse.

DD has gone darker than me but she tans easily.

cant believe it for £2.99!

HouseOfBamboo · 03/06/2012 13:35

Vicar - that is interesting, I've always thought that expensive fake tan is a huge con.

They all contain DHA (the stinky stuff) - the rest is just moisturiser / mousse and sometimes a bit of colour to aid application.

nobodysfool · 03/06/2012 14:39

Ooh read this with interest and can't wait to buy some st moritz :-)

nobodysfool · 03/06/2012 14:45

Ok I'm a bit confused I can only find st moriz not st moritz ..... Am I looking at the right stuff?

ThatVikRinA22 · 03/06/2012 15:21

no its the St Moriz - on some searches it says St Moriz by St Moritz though for some reason - so i hedged my bets and put both!

it says St Moriz on the bottle.

its this one

but use the mousse - its dead easy.

nobodysfool · 03/06/2012 21:58

Brilliant thanks I have just ordered some Grin

trixymalixy · 04/06/2012 15:43

I can seem to put fake tan on well on my upper body, but the leg area is a lot harder. I put fake tan on at night and shower and shave the next morning, that seems to get RUS of the bits that sink into your pores. I then scrub the orangey bits on my feet, ankles and knees with whitening toothpaste till they fade and it mostly looks ok.

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/06/2012 18:39

ive just reapplied the st moriz mousse - the first "coat" was lovely! round 2....i am very pale so it faded quite quickly but i still had some colour left - im out on weds for drinks so thought id give it another bash....

Hopefullyrecovering · 04/06/2012 18:47

I disapprove of fake tan

In South Africa, I disapprove of the chemical bleaching stuff to make people (usually women) lighter

It's just a nonsensical fad and it's harmful to women's self image. I suffer this with DD who has lovely olive skin. I caught her the other day trying to put this stuff on her legs. Picture the most lovely long shapely tanned legs you can imagine. She was smearing this gunk all over them. I callously chucked the gunk away.

People are meant to come in different colours. Your colour is pale and interesting. I bet you're lovely as you are.

And I also bet that you look vair silly with streaks and splodges everywhere. It's an expensive waste of time, money and energy.

Harumph

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/06/2012 18:54

my colour isnt pale or interesting. its blue and it prevents me from wearing what i want to wear because i am too conscious of my blue white veiny legs and i would rather smother myself in this "gunk" than cook myself for hours in the sun or go on sunbeds.

and at £2.99 a throw its not an "expensive waste of money"

do you wear make up hope? or have your hair done? or shave your legs? each to their own.

so harumph right back at ya. when i start telling you how to live then you can start telling me. Smile

nomoreminibreaks · 04/06/2012 18:58

I was once described by an ex as 'mint green'! They never have any trouble finding my veins either.

I use L'Oreal nutrisummer (I use the medium one as I'm too lazy so I guess there's one for paler skin too). I prefer a few layers of this to St Tropez.

I'll keep an eye out for St Moriz though now, I think bodycare have it and, come to think of it, my always well-bronzed friend raves about it.

LittlebearH · 04/06/2012 19:22

Reading with interest! Vicar am right with you. Thanks all. I want to embrace the maxi dress to avoid the blue white legs. But at 5ft 8 they make me look huge!! Sticks to leggings under dress! :) Will try all these tips over the coming weeeks.

Would love to get my money back on the "No streaks bronzer" that streaked GrinGrinGrin Garnier Ambre Solaire shouldn't be allowed lie like that!!!

anniewoo · 05/06/2012 20:49

£10 down the toilet-ok -into the bin. What a waste!Sad

Nobhead · 05/06/2012 21:05

I too like you have very dark hair, green eyes and very pale freckly skin (the irish in me Wink). I have been very concious of it since being about 14- I would never wear skirts or shorts in summer and still don't now unless I have fake tan on. I used to hammer the sunbeds in my late teens until I was about 26 in my desperation to not look like death warmed up. I am also allergic to most fake tans too Hmm Johnsons holiday skin had me in tears and I scratched myself so much I bled.
The only ones that really work for me are Xen tan (about 25 quid a bottle) if I am on a big night out or Dove moisturiser with tan lotion in it for everyday use. I still get small patches of ecema after using it but I am so self concious of it it's worth putting up with.
Exfoliate like crazy with either a body scrub or a body puff and shower gel, shave what you need to shave then when you have got out of the bath/shower dry off for 10 or 15 mins. Then apply making sure to bend your knees and elbows when applying and don't forget to put a bit on the back of your hands and fingers too to avoid the tell tale white hands (happens after you scrub your hands after applying to the rest of your body).

ThatVikRinA22 · 05/06/2012 21:12

anniewoo and anyone else who is listening! - seriously get the st moriz stuff at £2.99. i used it for the 2nd time yesterday - again no streaks and a fantastic light and even tan. i have seriously never found anything that didnt streak on me but this stuff is the holy grail of self tanning and its £2.99!!!!

disclaimer - i dont work for st moriz!

Nobhead · 05/06/2012 21:15

vicarI have tried that from Bodycare. It wasn't bad actually especially for the price applied it with a mit, it was a bit scratchy though (hate my bastard skin).

ThatVikRinA22 · 05/06/2012 21:19

i had seen other threads about it and used the mousse - it is fail safe quite honestly by the look of it. 2nd use for me now so not a fluke!

vix206 · 05/06/2012 21:55

St moriz is amazing. The mousse anyway. Looks really natural and hardly smells at all (I usually reek!!) Lovely stuff!

Nobhead · 05/06/2012 21:57

Yes most fake tans do have a tendancy to smell like piss and biscuits.

Nobhead · 05/06/2012 21:58

Or maybe it's me Blush Grin

anniewoo · 05/06/2012 22:02

Thanks Vicar- will buy it. My point was the false advertising-no streaks my Grin
