Fear being eaten by the 'flattering & forgiving' style monster

Say - this:
/Womens-Truffle-Magnolia-Riviera-Shirt-Dress.html]]

I see: easy bf access, covers post pregnancy pumpkin belly, classic style ....

... But I fear I should be seeing: curtain fabric, conservative style, ageing & embarrassingly Boden.

My fat little hands are clutching to my feel-good-investment stash of cash - please save me from hormonal fashion mistake.

DogEared · 29/05/2012 11:46

I'm afraid it's horrible. The cut looks yucky.

beachyhead · 29/05/2012 11:47

It is very Boden and it is super conservative... Not for me, I'm afraid...

KurriKurri · 29/05/2012 11:47

Absolutely vile - I'm 52 and would consider it too frumpy even for me - and I am Queen Frump of Frump town.

Does that help? Grin

SingingTunelessly · 29/05/2012 11:49

Oh no. Definitely no. That is awful.

ElectricSoftParade · 29/05/2012 11:51

Really, it is just bleugh. Well, not even that, it is invisible iyswim?

VerityClinch · 29/05/2012 11:54

What is that bow?

Dropdeadfred · 29/05/2012 11:54

Sorry but unless you are 70 or over it's a no

FootprintsInTheSnow · 29/05/2012 11:56

Throw me a bone to chew on!

I went in the Boden website looking at this

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Knee-Length-Dresses/WH341/Womens-Linen-Shirt-Dress.html

To get me away from the grotty vests I've been living in, while giving easy boob access. I tried some dresses on the high street - but while I seem to be a reasonable 12/14 - I'm literally as wide side on as face on. A pumpkin with a barbie head on top.

I accept that I maybe've been Boden brainwashed into finding the print acceptable!

I'm 32.

I have a little stretchy sundress - but I was after something with more structure that wd give me shape. Finding it hard to reconcile with feeding access.

OP posts:
Tanyaaah · 29/05/2012 12:02

I understand how you feel, I have just realised I only have leggings and maternity dresses which I can fit into and feed in, but buying either of those dresses will not make you feel better!

I'm 31.

FootprintsInTheSnow · 29/05/2012 12:03

^sigh*

OP posts:
FootprintsInTheSnow · 29/05/2012 12:04

I meant sigh

(even my fingers are bloody fat)

PrimaBallerina · 29/05/2012 13:36

Kirsty Allsop would wear that to flower arrange in. Grin

LukeWarmMomma · 29/05/2012 14:49

Prima I was just thinking that looks like a Kirsty Wetsock dress, as well

notyummy · 29/05/2012 15:06

No, sorry.

More worryingly, it is sold out in some sizes.....

TheSmallClanger · 29/05/2012 15:37

Princess Anne would wear it.Grin

MarySA · 29/05/2012 15:42

I'm fairly conservative where clothing is concerned. But that is beyond dire. the colour is yuck. Can't see it would flatter anybody. Not even Princess Anne!!

CailinDana · 29/05/2012 15:47

It's blagh. But your thread title and OP made me smile, so thanks for that :)

AlanMoore · 29/05/2012 16:06

That is horrible, and I LIKE 50s style shirtdresses.

Someone I work with wears Boden dresses all the time. She's about 44, 5'8"ish, slim (guessing size 8-10) and really pretty, but they all make her look meh and pregnant, steer clear! (I do think they have nice cardigans and coats sometimes and I like some of their kids stuff)

If you want a dress Oasis are usually good for dresses (disclaimer, I am massively pregnant so haven't looked this year).

euphrosyne · 29/05/2012 16:34

hhmmm, it's a no from me too I'm afraid

But if you think the shape will be comfortable, perhaps the black one if you add a couple of accessories?

BangOffTrend · 29/05/2012 17:38

I think it's a really pretty dress OP and no doubt flattering but I can't get past the print I'm afraid (or I would have ordered it myself).
Then again, as my name suggests, I am perhaps not to be trusted on such things. Wouldn't touch a linen dress with a bargepole but that's because it always wrinkles around my fat bits.
Jersey maxis are great for breastfeeding I've found.

FootprintsInTheSnow · 29/05/2012 18:11

I fear the cling from jersey - and that other thread has made me distrust the capacious comfort of maxi.

(I'm willing to be persuaded if anyone wants to linky linky a nice one? In my favour - I'm tall & have new wedge-heel shoes)

OP posts:
colditz · 29/05/2012 18:20

Dahhhhling, I'm thirty two, and my mother would call that dress frumpy. No, darling, no.

You need www.hm.com/gb/product/99083?article=99083-B this from h and m. Or other similar things.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/05/2012 18:26

It's lovely but not in the brown. Blue is great.

In the blue one on the model she has tied it in a knot and it looks much better than a stupid bow.

You could also unbutton a couple of buttons for a bit more cleavage.

wildfig · 29/05/2012 18:32

I love a shirt dress. But they tend to be one of those styles that looks better on me in my head than they do in real life.

And that's astonishingly unflattering, even by Boden standards - presumably the designers looked at the prototype and thought, hmm, yah, we're still not getting enough width in the waist... I know! Let's add a rarely huge bow at the side! Fabsers. Porkamundo.
