Nay - they are vile things!

DinahMoHum · 27/05/2012 08:50

very mumsy.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/05/2012 09:06

No, anything that doesnt fasten over the bridge of your foot makes your toes claw when you walk to keep it on.

You wont be bothered about that now perhaps but when your older and have toes that wont lie flat and have corns on them you will be.

Pinot · 27/05/2012 09:14

Yay! I can't understand the anti-FF thing. They look nice, they feel amazing - everyone I know in our group of mates wears them. Seriously, it's like a FF convention when we get together.

I love them.

Make up your own mind :)

talkingnonsense · 27/05/2012 09:16

Ooh fluffy cloud, can you tell me what healthy toes should look like? Dh and I disagree! And are flip flops that go over the bridge of your foot- like the bikinstock ones - okay? Thanks

anniewoo · 27/05/2012 09:18

Comfy...not cool unless you have lovely feet in proportion tio your body. ManyFitflop owners need to lose weight - like me Grin

EggWhiteOmelette · 27/05/2012 09:21

They are hideous! Only acceptable if you have tiny feet and are over 50.

tunaday · 27/05/2012 09:58

I've got tiny feet and am 51. Yay! I shall stop worrying about being uncool now. Though I've justgot the walkstar ones without a toepost and notice I have to grip my toes to keep the buggers on so won't be ok for lots of walking. And the walkstar ones DO look like old biddy shoes I agree. In black patent not quite as bad but I still feel as if i'm starting to slide down the slippery slope towards Hotters and those mags that come in the papers on Sunday.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/05/2012 10:06

No, Birkies are the same.

A shoe should fasten over the bridge of the foot with either a buckle or velcro strap or a lace. Anything else should be special occaison wear only like nights out and weddings etc.

Healthy toes are straight, the little toe and the one next door to it often go under a little bit due to shoe wear but it doesnt bother a lot of people.

whitelillies · 27/05/2012 10:38

Put of all the replies the one the put me off the most was the notion of the 'fit flop convention' gathering of fit flop wearing friends. Round here it s all fit flops and Orla kiely patterned bags! Am seriously thinking of joining the herd though! They look Nice and feel comfy and I could walk in them.
Would they tone my wobbly ass too?? Or is that just marketing? Has anyone found shapelier legs and bum from wearing them?

I think I m feeling this way because I wore my relied sandals for the first time Friday and feet are covered in blisters and site since - even the soles of my feet are soreSad

*high heeled not relied

MarianForrester · 27/05/2012 10:41

I think they make you look at the wearer and see if they need to be fitter... Not something I want people to do to me Grin

HouseOfBamboo · 27/05/2012 11:13

Fluffycloud, is the bridge of your foot the widest part or the highest part?

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/05/2012 11:28

You know where your school shoes fastened when you were 5? thats the bridge.

Just down from the ankle on the top where it is high.

The widest part is the ball area. Or metatarsalphalangeal heads if you want to be fancy.

DerbysKangaskhan · 27/05/2012 11:42

Just marketing pretty much, a physio I know is complaining about all this fitness footwear as they only tend to tone half the muscle group which can lead to problems.

GobblersKnob · 27/05/2012 12:04

They are so so ugly, they are the new croc.

1000 times nay

ZZZenAgain · 27/05/2012 12:15

am also trying to get the bridge thing. So fluffy, shoes should have a strap that fastens at the side of your foot, just below the ankle? Does that mean that court shoes are no good because you slip into them and they aren't fastened anywhere or are they ok because the enclose the foot?

DuffyMoon · 27/05/2012 12:16

really comfy and sparkly...live in them...but no shoe is going to help your arse lets be honest. Just find them supportive to walk in

TheQueenOfSheba · 27/05/2012 12:17

They are often worn by women who deceive themselves that they can just wear stupid shoes to get fit, rather than go to the gym.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/05/2012 12:22

ZZZ it means that courts are bad for everyday wear.

Lace ups fasten over the bridge, the top of wear they fasten thats the bridge, it's a bit thinner than the rest of the foot but higher when you look side on.

Remember the start right shoes you wore for school? they fasten on the bridge.

Slip ons and courts are fine for occaisonal wear and some people could actually wear them a lot with no damage because they have strong feet that resist being moulded like that.

But most female elderly patients have bent toes and bunions of some degree whereas the men dont.

I always wonder about elderly transvestites, will they get the same deformities we get?.

HouseOfBamboo · 27/05/2012 12:23

Thanks Fluffycloud - that's interesting, scholl and birkenstock type sandals make my feet claw like anything, that's why I can't wear them. I don't have the same problem with (flat) flip flops though, unless the straps are a bad fit, or they have heavy soles.

Re the Fit Flop question, I didn't get on with them as the straps were too tight (and caused clawing as I couldn't get my feet properly into them), but I think they're fine fashion-wise - nothing special, as long as you just want a casual flip flop type thing and aren't expecting physical or sartorial miracles!

HouseOfBamboo · 27/05/2012 12:25

I've always found courts and ballet shoes v uncomfortable for anything except sitting down - they're horrid things that flap off your feet!
