Help me find something like a semi skinny jean(does it exist?)

orangeandlemons · 18/05/2012 20:34

I am a 14 and quite tall. Unfortunately skinny jeans make ke look like a weeble due to chunky thighs. They can look OK if they aren't too tight at the bottom.
I have tried everywhere to get a pair of skinny jeans that aren't like ankle crushers. I have also investigated both "slim" and "straight" jeans. These both appear to be the same thing. They fit OK round the hips and thighs, but flap round like flags at the bottom. It seems they work OK on small sizes as leg width isn't as wide as a 14, so are probably slimmish round ankles. But the 14's have yards of flappy stuff at hem.

I have 3 pairs of jeans I bought about 4 years ago. These were all skinny at the time, but aren't as narrow as today's skinnies and are much more flattering, but they are all wearing out.

I have tried Next, DP, New Look, H andM. Even M and S only sold skinny jeans masquerading as jeggings or bootlegs.
Does such a thing exist any more, and will it come in a longer length? I don't want slouch or boyfriend. Just slim jeans that aren't ankle crushers.

Please help

I second gap real straight.

heliumballoon · 18/05/2012 22:20

How low cut are Gap real straight?

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 18/05/2012 22:26

another vote for Uniqlo, ( tho' their shop recently closed in our town Sad)

chicaguapa · 18/05/2012 22:50

Dressipi has just recommended some Uniqlo jeans for me. I'd never heard of them before tonight! Cheaper than Oasis too!

thenightsky · 18/05/2012 22:53

OP... I agree that skinnies a few years ago were much more flattering that skinnies now.

I've got Long Tall Sally ones which seem like skinnies of yestertyear.

hifi · 19/05/2012 00:32

heliumballoonthey aren't low rise, sit on waist.im usually a 12 on the bottom, should have gone down a size as they have stretched.they fit snug when I tried them on tho.

orangeandlemons · 19/05/2012 13:56

Seems to be this is something jeans manufacturers need to take notic of.
So: Uniqlo but size down
Gap Real Straight (which are OK for muffins ?)
Potential unweeble like Oasis Cherry (buy for name!)
Boden
Long Tall Sally
Found Lands End sizing confusing. Normal and inbetween sizes? If this is right, I am very interested in these, but how many would I have to send off for for one that fits?!
Asda is very interesting but stressful. I live near the biggest Asa in England. Looked in there the other day. 5 million pairs of bootlegs in every size. Skinnies only in 8's or 20's. Jumble like heaps of flares and bits of others on floor in size20 an 18's only. Gave up after 10mins. Didn't see great bum jeans at all.

People always complain about the Topshop Baxter jeans not being skinny enough at the bottom. There's a nice pair of indigo ones in store (web) at the moment, I have them here, too - but size up by one if anyone is interested.

The Baxters always struck me as the not so skinny 'skinny' jeans.

cocolepew · 19/05/2012 15:04

Asda straight leg, I get loads of compliments when I wear them. I'm a short arse 14

trixymalixy · 19/05/2012 15:11

I love the shape of warehouse ultra skinnies. They're not totally skin tight and have quite a high waist.

chocoroo · 19/05/2012 19:06

After getting dressed today I realised I meant Oasis Amber, not Scarlett.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 19/05/2012 19:29

i am the same size and shape as you and have just got these. ignore the usual horrific styling - they are very good for pears. not low rise, slim through the leg, no weeble/carrot leg effect.

orangeandlemons · 19/05/2012 19:56

How much flappage at the bottom?

WHERE do M and S sell their jeans? I went into a flagship store yesterday. All I could find were jeggings, bootlegs and slouchy boyfriend (jeans not men!) NO sign of a straight leg anywhere. Even braved Per Una(which shows the depth of my desperation) but no sucess. This is a massive M and S on 2 floors btw

Aargh! Those DP jeans look perfect but are sold out Sad Am a size 8 but will always have curvy hips and thighs and the super tight ankle jeans just make me look dumpy.

Great thread tho OP Smile

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 19/05/2012 20:04

not bad re flappage IME.
I got the long and wear them with a bit of a turn-up, but if you don't want a turn up then the regular should do. i found them quite near all the horrific jegging, but well-hidden.

orangeandlemons · 19/05/2012 20:05

Well, not everyone suits super tight skinnies, but it is practicallyall you can buy.

I really thought M and S would have something. In fact when I asked the assistantshe said they only sold whatpeople wanted. So everyone wants skinny jeggings?

I dug round in jeans section for ages. Ho big is your M and S? Must admit a certain amount of denim fatigue had taken place by the time I stamped into M and S....and I was so tired. It's miles from the door to the jeans section...then I had to hike to Indigo for another ferret around. I don't think I could have managed the route march to the changing room by this time

Our M and S is massive, it tires me out just thinking of going in and still had such a small range of jeans

found 'em in the Trafford one, which is admittedly pretty huge.
they weren't in indigo/autograph, just the standard Granny Denim section.

orangeandlemons · 19/05/2012 20:28

Well all they had in granny section was bootlegs and jeggings. This was Meadowhall which is a big store too

Ive just remembered that my favourite skinny jeans are fromPrimark, I went in today to get another pair but they only had super skinny in my size. The skinny isn't too skinny iyswim.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2012 18:33

Have a look at Esprit. They seem to have a variety of shapes and also do a variety of leg lengths.

orangeandlemons · 20/05/2012 18:40

Yes, I like the look of Esprit, will revist when not been hounded by dd. Angry

I went especially to ASDA, tried on some straight jeans. They are too baggy from the knee down. It is the knee to ankle that I can't get right. I want slim around knee, then carry onto ankle without going too slim. It seems straight ones are too baggy at the knee.

I am just too fussy aren't I?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 20/05/2012 18:40

Yep :o

SoupDragon · 20/05/2012 18:41

The Esprit "fit guide" seems quite good for explaining the different jeans.

I love them purely because they do long lengths.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 20/05/2012 18:43

Esprit - just been on their website fab jeans, and also fab dresses!!! Have just bought.... thanks!
