Can you recommend a product for long dry frizzy hair?

Apparently I look like a witch.

My 19 month old dd was pointing out pictures in a Wizard of Oz book. 'Dog, cow, lion, tree . . . Mummy!' Yes, it was a witch, a green faced warty nosed wild frizzy haired witch.

I have considered chopping all my hair off but know from past experience I really don't suit shorter hair, so instead I'm going to get a good trim and hopefully find some magical potion to make it all glossy and lush.

Can anybody recommend any good hair rescue treatments?

Thankyou

The Wicked Witch of The West

Morrocan Oil is fab.

And a good trim to get rid of split ends.

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 18/05/2012 14:27

Try Aussie shampoo and conditioner it's great Smile

AWimbaWay · 18/05/2012 14:28

Thanks Rick, have you tried this intense hydrating mask, or just their shampoo/conditioners? Can you buy it from boots and the like or will I have to order online?

Thank pink, I've tried Aussie stuff before but think I need something even more extreme this time.

Tigi Blow out Balm and L'Oreal Mythic Oil - can be used together, use the oils first then put on the blow out balm. You can get it cheap from ebay.

Pancakeflipper · 18/05/2012 14:32

Macadamia oil has tamed my crazy mop. I look glossy these days. Still sticks out wildly but it shines...

LukeWarmMomma · 18/05/2012 14:45

I found Joico K Pak very good (shampoo and conditioner) and then Moroccan oil.
Now I know this sounds weird, BUT, I've read that silk pillowcases are suppose to be really good for sleeping on - I wake up with one side of my head like sticky out straw - and they are suppose to help retain the natural moisture in your hair whereas cotton pillowcases can have a drying effect, so the other day when I found a 100% silk top that I could no longer fit in to I decided to slip it over my pillowcase and it works! next morning the normally strawlike side of my head was actually normal and not at all dry, bit of a miracle really Smile thought I'd just share with you just in case it helps.

I have been told my hair is wild by many 5 year old dc. It is long, curly, coarse, dry and frizzy. I came across re:nu age defying shampoo, conditioner, controlling spray and cream for coarse, dull hair in TK Maxx. It is by Joico. It is normally pretty expensive, but absolutely amazing. My hair is soft, smoother and healthy looking.

AWimbaWay · 18/05/2012 14:49

Lots of ideas to try, thank you. I'll see if I can splurge on a silk pillowcase too, perhaps it'll also help with my dry skin as well as hair!

Finding something to tame my hair has been like searching for the Holy Grail!! I second the moroccan oil - at the moment I have kerastase equivalent which the hairdresser recommended but actually I prefer the original moroccan oil. It is expensive but you only need a tiny bit so the bottle lasts for months. Also, Avon's frizz control shampoo and conditioner is excellent. they often have offers on so I buy in bulk when they do. they do another product called Lotus Shield which is also amazing for frizz.

sherbetpips · 18/05/2012 15:00

Make sure you blow dry it properly, dont leave it to dry naturally and curl the ends under with a big brush.
You dont say if it is fine or thick hair. I have thick horse type hair so I always use a thick conditioner and blow dry it. A little bit of serumon the end is good as well.

Never let it get too long either or use bleach based colours on it.

Get a good trim - deep conditioning treatments are great - i have found aussies 3 minute miracle frizz treatment to be the best:

skrumle · 18/05/2012 15:23

we've been using macadamia leave in conditioner on my DD's hair:
www.cheapsmells.com/productPaging.php?productSex=&priceRange=&category=0&brand=Macadamia&previousBrand=

which has made a massive difference. as has using SLS-free shampoo, if your hair is naturally curly i'd definitely recommend trying SLS-free shampoo.

and i don't know whether your hair is starting to go grey but i find mine is much frizzier when "needing" dyed...

fluffiphlox · 18/05/2012 15:31

Aussie 3 minute reconstructor
Morrocan oil
Blow dry
GHDs

or a hat.

GeorgiaA · 18/05/2012 15:57

I find the cheaper shampoos work the best. Leave it on for a few minutes and rinse with cold water. I've tried these before and they work pretty well;

www.montagnejeunesse.com/hair/hot-miracle-hair-reconstructor-oil

They sell them at most supermarkets and chemists

dexter73 · 18/05/2012 16:01

sherbertpips - I have long curly hair and a blow drier has not been near my hair for over 20 years as this is the result! I just leave it to dry. The less I do to it the nicer it looks.

fluffiphlox · 18/05/2012 16:03

Dexter73 - if that's the case I can see why you might not bother. However, I feel you may not have quite the right technique!

BarbaraWoodlouse · 18/05/2012 16:04

I knew someone would have already beaten me to recommending Moroccan Oil but it really is great.

My hairdresser used Mythic Oil on my hair the other day and swears it's better and cheaper. My hair was lovely and soft but I can't vouch for how much was the oil and how much was hairdresser blow dry witchcraft.

dexter73 · 18/05/2012 16:05

Seriously blow drying does my hair no favours at all. If I leave it to dry it goes all nice and ringletty but if I blow dry it, it goes all weird and crinkly. I have had my hair long enough to know what suits it best!

fluffiphlox · 18/05/2012 16:09

Dexter73 - I have very coarse wavy rather than curly hair and I have been using MoroccanOil for about 12 months. I can recommend it. I straighten my hair these days buteven on the days I don't bother it really helps. BTW, of course the the Leo Sayer look is fairly unfashionable these days but maybe if you get the pierrot outfit he used to wear...?

dexter73 · 18/05/2012 16:17

I have Moroccanoil already and love it. I also use the Moroccanoil hair creme. My hair is fine and curly so a different texture to yours. I have straightened my hair before but I prefer it curly.
Now, where am I going to get that pierrot outfit from...

Esmereldada · 18/05/2012 16:40

Hmm. Am something of an expert as my hair is crapola and has been the bane of my life.

But the following have turned me from ozzy osbourne to Kate Middleton and i love love love my hair:

Get a few inches trimmed off. That hair near the ends will never look good. Never.

Babyliss big hair dryer. And use until hair is bone dry. Or if you use normal hair dryer, dont rough dry it, point the nozzle downwards at all times.

Moroccan oil or similar product mixed with a little hair serum and applied to hair while its still wet.

Coconut oil - cheap little jar from Boots. Put a teaspoon all over hair. Sleep. Wake up, shampoo and condition as normal. Better than anything else i have ever used.

As mentioned before, Joico is the dbs.

Final Rinse in cold water (this is not an old wives' tale). In hard water areas do final rinse with bottled water.

Get hair coloured. I think hair dye closes the hair cuticle or something, but it def makes it shiny.

So agree about silk pillowcase.

All of the above combined work bloody wonders.

bigpants103 · 18/05/2012 16:46

Morrocan Oil has changed my life. I have naturally blonde hair that I straighten every day so is prone to being dry and frizzy.

Started using the morrocan oil last week and so many people have commented on my hair. It's so soft and feels lovely. Can't believe I didn@t jump on the MN Morrocan band wagon earlier!! Smile

pinkappleby · 18/05/2012 16:47

I find these products good and not too expensive: www.samysalon.com/samy-products I will try the aussie miracle stuff and the moroccan oil stuff to see how they compare. This recent weather has turned my hair into a frizz bomb.

pinkappleby · 18/05/2012 16:48

maybe not...have just googled, that moroccan oil is flipping expensive!!!! Might have to be a Christmas present :S
