What is a BB cream? Have seen adverts for a BB cream all day, seen them mentioned in magazines but no idea what it/they is/are!

Marking my place as no idea what it is either !

remote · 15/05/2012 23:26

Its blemish balm I think.

Bit like a tinted moisturiser or primer.

I got a sample of the garnier one which was really good. Sort of evens out your skin tone and covers blemishes.

IHeartBobEvans · 15/05/2012 23:31

Is it for before you put make up on, or instead of foundation?

OP posts:
lololizzy · 15/05/2012 23:33

Before foundation, or instead of.

poorbuthappy · 15/05/2012 23:35

I bought garnier in light on Sunday.
Have used it twice. Spots everywhere.
Not happy.
It's got 1 more chance before it goes.

Actually I will post it on if I get rid. Or is that really skanky??

remote · 15/05/2012 23:38

You can use it either on its own as foundation or as a primer according to the blurb but I wouldn't use both. Too heavy.

IHeartBobEvans · 15/05/2012 23:38

So does it just conceal blemishes or is it meant to heal or improve them? Not feeling convinced.

lololizzy · 15/05/2012 23:39

i have real probs with the Garnier. It's sooooooo greasy and shiny. I already have quite oily (but not spotty) skin. It's like putting on an oil slick. I don't see how that could help someone who had excess oil, or spots. I had to put tons of powder on top to tone down the grease. That got rid of the natural look, so defeated the point really.

BeeInMyBonnet · 15/05/2012 23:39

I bought the Garnier one and looked awful. It was the light shade but was still much too orange and it was waxy/greasy and patchy. Disaster.

However my mother loves it and looks fine with it, so I gave her mine.

Don't think I'll try another one. Expensive mistakeHmm

BeeInMyBonnet · 15/05/2012 23:43

My skin's not especially greasy but I had similar problems. It's such an oily product odd sort of cream. I looked like someone off Death Becomes Her.

IHeartBobEvans · 15/05/2012 23:44

Think I won't be buying one then, at least not the Garnier one at any rate.

OP posts:
lololizzy · 15/05/2012 23:45

it reminded me of Laura Mercier's tinted moisturiser. On me, the greasy ghoul....

lololizzy · 15/05/2012 23:45

you'd really think, that a blemish balm, would be, well...a little mattifying???

EllieorOllie · 16/05/2012 07:14

I have tried pretty much all the high street ones Blush
Garnier awful for me, Maybelline disappears after about 30 minutes. BUT No 7 is good, looks like you've been airbrushed. My favourite though is Superdrug own brand in Light which is currently on offer at 6.99. Seems to be a hybrid between a BB and a tinted moisturiser. I am using it every day and loving it.
Hth!

BranchingOut · 16/05/2012 07:28

Alright, I know nothing of these matters and currently only own a lipstick, but if you put on a BB or tinted moisturiser do you have to cleanse it off as you would do a foundation?

EllieorOllie · 16/05/2012 07:34

Yes I would. I do cleanse and polish anyway, but I should think you'd be able to get away with cleansing it off with a facial wipe. Or cotton wool and a cream cleanser.

UterusUterusGhali · 16/05/2012 10:21

I quite like the garnier one.
I was using Lancome tinted moisturiser before, and this has more of a highlighted finish. It doesn't last though.

I use it as a tinted moisturiser or under powder foundation if I'm going out.
Like the under eye jobby, I'd go a shade lighter as it's quite orangey.
I have dry skin mind.

badtasteflump · 16/05/2012 10:26

I've tried a couple of different ones and didn't like them. Found them a bit like tinted moisturiser but more greasy, and harder to colour match to my skin.

MrsEricBana · 16/05/2012 10:35

Ooh, I have had totally different experience. I have never used a foundation as scared about getting a tide mark or it looking obvious etc then bought the Garnier Miracle Perfector BB stuff as have some blemishes/scarring - says it has vitamin C, SPF15, tint and light reflectors etc. I use it instead of moisturiser and it definitely evens things out and I feel less gruesome! I then just put on few dots concealer, eyeliner and lipstick and all better and very quick. Would recommend, but as someone says above, even the light is plenty dark enough. Not greasy.

MrsEricBana · 16/05/2012 10:35

Definitely need to cleanse it off as normal.

snoozingbeauty · 16/05/2012 13:22

I like the Origins one. Lighter than some and it smells lush. I wash it off with Mama Mio Clean Slate as it does have quite a tint to it. No breakouts yet... :-) x

lololizzy · 16/05/2012 18:38

yeh I would imagine the Garnier would be amazing on dry skin...

lumbago · 16/05/2012 18:41

i have no idea and i LOVE make up

i think its something i can do without - is it only for the pock marked? :)

lumbago · 16/05/2012 18:41

how is it different to a concelaer or diluting foundation with moisturiser?

lololizzy · 16/05/2012 18:42

I may be ignorant here..but..great for dry skin, but then would dry skin need a BLEMISH balm?? do dry skins get blemishes?
