Small boobs...

AIBU to think that I could find a bra that is uplifting, but not wodged full of foam, which will be flattering on those of us who are not overendowed on the boobicular area?
At the moment it either looks like I'm completely flat chested, or have two bean bags shoved down there.

I am struggling to find a bra that's pretty and supportive. Any recommendations?

Look at the woman in <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=rhp&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbnid=veuoZOxhFIvsZM:&imgrefurl=www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2115183/So-thats-bras-fit-We-sent-32C-model-bra-shopping--needed-different-size-store.html&docid=vCWoHG2XyE-w4M&imgurl=i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/03/15/article-2115183-121834FD000005DC-513_306x423.jpg&w=306&h=423&ei=miCpUNb0K4bM0AWHioH4DQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=386&sig=107595361979090695160&page=1&tbnh=137&tbnw=109&start=0&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0,i:75&tx=51&ty=84&biw=1252&bih=522" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this - the article contains plenty of DM drivvel but I think the sizing is probably true. She probably has similar measurements to you given the range of sizes she ends up in.

Ah, SC, see what you mean. That is serious spillover.

NishiNoUsagi · 19/11/2012 01:30

Eek! I'm very happy to read this as I always thought I had the smallest boobs in the world :) I wear a 32A if I have to wear a bra, but they're so loose around the ribs (now I know why!) and gape if I bend over a tiny bit.. the postman has seen more of my norks than the poor man should ever have to! Just thought I was too skinny for grown up bras Blush

So, I measure 28" around the ribs and 31" (or a 32 if very loose and accounting for cold-weather nipples!) BUT I have very very little body fat so not sure if the scoop would work in my favour as i don't really have anything to scoop. So, would I be best off with a 28B? or C?

VintageRainBoots · 19/11/2012 01:40

I'm a 36A, generally. Every once in a while, I'll find a bra that fits and looks good and it's labeled 36B, but that's rare. I'm pretty certain I'm an A cup.

I'm so happy to hear that there are other women out there who don't want overstuffed, underwired bras. I really thought I was the only one.

I can't find a single A-cup bra at Victoria's Secret (in the US) that doesn't have enough padding to fill a couple throw pillows. It's as if bra manufacturers in the US think all small-chested women want to look like they have DD tits.

VintageRainBoots · 19/11/2012 01:42

Re: "You should only be able to fit a couple of fingers under the front of the bra. If you can get more than that, or you can pull it more than an inch or so away from your body at the back, it is TOO BIG!"

So what's smaller than an A cup?

Naoko · 19/11/2012 02:03

If you can pull it far away from the body, it's likely the band that's too big, and once you're in the correct (smaller) band size, many women find they need more than an a cup. The cup size is not an absolute, it is about the relation between the two measurements. Measure yourself like described up thread, and see if the lovely wise ladies on this thread can help with the sizing.

hawthers · 19/11/2012 06:57

untamedshrew my DH had a similar reaction to yours. I could practically see the head tilt and he thinks I'm totally wishful thinking in a desperate bid to upgrade my boobs from a 34a.

So I'm calling up bravissimo later on to book a fitting. I measure 30 under and 35 over. DH said but that's the shop for people with big boobs - but am I right in thinking I should be a 30 dd so won't be laughed out of the shop....

Will report back after I've been

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/11/2012 07:13

Hawthers you sound like you are in bravissimo territory :-)

Vintage, naoko is right- pulling the bra away means the back is too big- chances are you need to go down in the back and up in the cup to compensate. Try measuring yourself- and don't let Victoria secret do it- they are awful!,

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/11/2012 07:15

Nishi your measurements suggest 28c or d. Maybe try the m and s 28c linked upthread?

NishiNoUsagi · 19/11/2012 10:23

Thank you Statistically :) Will try a 28c and report back. Exciting stuff!

Trazzletoes · 19/11/2012 10:42

Oh my good God. All my life I've been a 36A. Even 2 DCs and b-feeding them has made no difference. Today I discover I'm a 34D! A D!!!!!!!!!!!!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/11/2012 10:48

Congratulations on your newfound boobs trazzle!,

ArtVandelay · 19/11/2012 10:55

Hi! My new 30D bras are great. I'm definitely a plunge person. And in breaking news... Granma Vandelay is a 32E not a 36A - how we laughed :) ill catch up with the thread later x x

SorrelForbes · 19/11/2012 11:01

Grin at Granma Vandelay! Is she in shock?

JKSLtd · 19/11/2012 12:33

Hoping to get into town this week to join in the celebrations, jealous of those that have had success.

kizzy4kids · 19/11/2012 12:40

Lovely lovely lovely ladies - yeaterday I was a 34 A - today I received a gorgeous bra from next in a 30D which looks amazing. I think I can even go down one further back size as it doesn't feel too tight.

What confuses me though was that I was told I was 34A by Rigby & Peller (admittedly 15 years ago) - I can understand my cup size fluctuating (as I have had 3 further children) but I haven't changed in weight so how can my back measurement have been so wrong.

By the way the bra Rigby and Peller sold me (french make 34A equivalent) fitted very nicely.

Mind you I don't care what I was then - today, Ladies & Gentlemen, I am a 30D and I am magnificient.

ShamyFarrahCooper · 19/11/2012 14:03

Marking my place for later. I'm in work so can't really whip out a measure Grin but shall tonight. Lets just say on my 34C I can get a full hand through the back strap Shock
Shall be interesting to see my measurements later. I've never felt my bras fit properly

AllMuddledUp · 19/11/2012 14:10

I am not small boobed but would love some bra fitting advice as I'm sick of spending £££ on ill-fitting and unattractive bras!

I did the measurements and came out around 35 under bust and when hanging free it was 44!

I wear a 36DD at the moment but I think the band is too big (on the tightest hooks and can still pull it out a fair way). I did the scoop test and the DD cups may be a little bit too small but not much. Also the underwire sits on breast tissue at the side I think, maybe it should sit further round?

What size should I try? And where? The only places near me are M&S and House of Fraser.

AllMuddledUp · 19/11/2012 14:11

Also I put bras on by doing that backwards then swivel it round thing which seems frowned upon, I must learn the proper way! Grin

MrsDeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/11/2012 14:15

I have small boobs too, smaller since having DC. Should measure myself properly and buy some new bras. My issue is that I have small boobs but the bottom part is quite full and there is just nothing at the top of my breast so balcony bras are the only ones that fit properly.

Naoko · 19/11/2012 14:16

I think a lot of people measuring an odd number like your 35 fit better in the size below than the one above, AllMuddled - so start on a 34. Your cups don't sound like they fit, the wire shouldn't sit on the breast tissue at all, the tissue should be inside the cup - and going down a band size will also mean you need to go up in the cup. I'd start at 34G, but the other ladies on this thread who know more than I do will surely be along to give their wise advice soon and may contradict me :)

I hear HoF are quite good but there isn't one near me so I've never been. You could go to M&S if they have your size (as measured correctly), just don't let their fitters near you! You could also order some online and return what doesn't fit.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/11/2012 14:18

Allmuddled I would suggest trying a 34 g and 34 gg as a start point. I would say house of Fraser more likely- buy fitting service ropey so diy. You will struggle to rotate a bra which fits in the back.

AllMuddledUp · 19/11/2012 14:29

Thank you so much both of you. I am going to go shopping on Saturday and try lots on I think.

G cup though Shock! Will try House of Fraser as long as I can avoid the assistants trying to 'fit' me.

Naoko · 19/11/2012 14:37

Have you got anything else at all near you? Debenhams is quite good for their size range as well, as is obviously Bravissimo. Online, try Brastop - they're really quite cheap so if you do end up returning something you're not out loads of money while you wait for the refund.

AllMuddledUp · 19/11/2012 14:52

No we don't have a Debenhams here unfortunately, or a Bravissimo. Sometimes I wish I still lived in a big city rather than middle of nowhere! I think there may be a La Senza but not sure if they are any good.

I might have a look online thanks, then I can try them on at home. As long as I remember to return the ones that don't fit [lazy emoticon].
