Small boobs...

AIBU to think that I could find a bra that is uplifting, but not wodged full of foam, which will be flattering on those of us who are not overendowed on the boobicular area?
At the moment it either looks like I'm completely flat chested, or have two bean bags shoved down there.

I am struggling to find a bra that's pretty and supportive. Any recommendations?

sorr, should have made it clear, was looking at John Lewis website as thats where I'm off to!

OhYoubadbadKitten · 08/11/2012 15:39

will try bravissimo as well :)

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 08/11/2012 15:39

I think the cups are too small and that with any clothes over it there would be a double busting effect.

Thanks to a good lady on MN, I now realise I am not a 36DD but a 32 G

Naoko · 08/11/2012 15:40

Haha, so am I statistically, but avoiding uni work so perhaps refreshing a little more often than entirely reasonable....

OhYoubadbadKitten · 08/11/2012 15:41

They have loads and pretty ones as well :) hip hip hooray!

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/11/2012 15:46

The one you linked to is too small in the cup- you can see it being pushed away from the chest wall at the front centre. Probably also too big in the back- if the back was tight enough you would see quad boob rather than front gape

OhYoubadbadKitten · 08/11/2012 15:47

why on earth would they show a model wearing the wrong size bra (that even I can tell!)? Thats bonkers!

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/11/2012 15:51

Figleaves are really bad for it too. Hugely arching back that street least two sizes too big. Cant link but look at their picture of the freya underwired sports bra, I think it was the black one. Absolutely crazy.

HazleNutt · 08/11/2012 15:58

Kitten oh you see it all the time. Especially obvious when the model is tiny, but bras start with size 32 only - even on the tightest hook, the back is somewhere around the model's ears.

Thats a good website :)
discovered that dd is also wearing bras that are the wrong size. oops!

DonaAna · 08/11/2012 17:12

I'm still confused by EU sizing. Does anyone understand it?

Maidenform Lilyette EUR 75D says 34D in the label . My below-bust measurement is 76cm which according to Google converter is 30 inches, and 75 band is really snug and tight on me. If I wear on the next size down (70 cm), I fear my ribs will crack. Wink

Did they add 4 inches for some historical reason when converting the sizes? Or am I just really confused?

DonaAna · 08/11/2012 17:13

Sorry for not proofreading properly, meant 'if I move on'...

DonaAna · 08/11/2012 17:15

Oh and I tried to check some EU-based bra measuring sites, but they just further confused me (basically putting me back to a A or AA bra, which I now know does not fit properly).

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/11/2012 17:21

It sounds like the eu charts don't tie up- I am guessing that years ago it was buy the size you measure so it basically had the old adding 4 inches built in. Your best bet is probably to work out your UK size, then find a brand which actually has both sizes on the tag. freya have a chart which suggests a 30 is a 65.

TheHappyCamper · 08/11/2012 18:02

So, my 30D bras arrived today. 20 years I have been wearing a 34B and I've gone up 2 cup sizes just like that! Unbelieveable. I woldn't have believed a D cup on a 30 back would be so small.

It seems about right though. (Looks good Blush!) However, it feels really tight to me! Is that right? I usually like my bras quite loose. I can get a few fingers behind the fastening at the back but it feels and looks tight round my ribs. Will I get used to it? The D cup seems about right - no overspill or gaping.

Naoko · 08/11/2012 18:28

Can you breathe? It's normal that it feels tight. If you can breathe ok and you can get two fingers under the fastening at the back, it sounds like it fits :) You do get used to the tightness. I had to wear an old, too-large-band bra the other day for reasons of laundry emergency ie I'm lazy and I hadn't done any and although it seemed ok before I got my new bras, it was pissing me off all day and just didn't feel right.

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/11/2012 18:51

Sounds right to me happycamper. You will find once you get used to it that it's surprisingly comfortable because itwon't really move. You won't get the shape, comfort or support from a loose back.

NulliusInBlurba · 08/11/2012 18:52

OK, I really don't get this 'band too big cup too small' thing. I officially have the world's smallest boobs and have been known not to fill an A cup. I live on the European mainland so buy 75A in European sizing (which is supposedly 34A). I've just measured my back right under the boobs and it's nearly 80 cm, so presumably I'm only getting in the 75 fitting at all because of stretchy material and the loosest clasp. How the heck am I supposed to go down a band size from that - the next down is 70, which would be nearly 10 cm smaller than my back size?
But I'm intrigued enough to go into H+M on Saturday (no Rigby and Peller or Bravissimo here, but you can try on as many bras as you like in H+M without getting hassle from the sales staff) and try out a 70B (32B?). My memory is that the one time I accidentally bought a 70 it was horribly small, non-breathingly small, and I dumped it.
I'm not a big lady at all, by the way. Around 5'6" (165cm) and 9st (57kg), size 10 on top. This is all very bewildering, but I will love forever the person who manages to get me in a B cup!

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/11/2012 18:56

Can you post your measurements in inches, tightly pulled underbust and looser over, and I will figure out a size for you? Do the over measurement wearing your best bra.

DonaAna · 08/11/2012 18:57

What is your over-boobs measurement, Nullius?
I live in the eurozone and the difference between under-bust and over-bust helped me to figure out the correct cup size.
Band size: the tightest that you can (comfortably) bear.

NulliusInBlurba · 08/11/2012 18:58

Eh, I only have really padded bras, so the over measurement will be pretty skewed. Blush

Naoko · 08/11/2012 18:59

I've just dug out my tapemeasure (helpfully marked in both cm and in) and remeasured myself, in the interest of science and clarifying things for Nullius :o I'm wearing my favourite, best fitting bra, which is a 30G. I measure 30 inches under the bust, which is 76cm. Therefore, if I understand it right, on the continent I'd probably want a 75G as my closest size.

If you're between 75 and 80cm underbust, it sounds like the 75 band size could well be right for you. However, if your cups gape, the cup might not! It might be as simple as a matter of needing a different style; I can't wear plunge styles, they all gape, no matter what size. It just doesn't suit me. Also, what is your overbust measurement? That might give an idea of whether you're in the right cup size.

Naoko · 08/11/2012 19:00

xpost - As suggested by the wise ladies above, you can also measure your overbust measurement without a bra on, by leaning forward (very dignified I'm sure) and loosely measuring around them with everything, ahem, hanging down....

ScatterChasse · 08/11/2012 19:00

I'm intrigued! I just measured and I'm 30.5/31 under and 38 around. So I'm guessing my 34C probably isn't quite right?

(And, if so, will I be able to find a sports bra that stops bust joggle? I currently wear a 34B with the straps pulled as tight as possible, but that's not perfect.)

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/11/2012 19:01

Naoko on the continent you would be a 65.
