Tell me where you get your hair cut and coloured.
I have decided never to return to bloody Edward Scissorhands who does not listen to me.

Money no object.

John carne, Wimbledon village.

AmberNectarine · 29/04/2012 21:27

Gina Conway at bottom of Wimbledon Hill

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 29/04/2012 21:29

Ruth, at Rush in Wimbledon

lololizzy · 30/04/2012 00:32

Code in Tolworth - Peter is amazing (and reasonably priced) ok not Kingston but only a couple of miles from!
Can i hijack your thread?! as we are talking about these areas, and ask if anyone does eyelash extensions in these areas? the ones that last a month or so. Sorry!

KatieMiddleton · 30/04/2012 00:51

When money was no object I used to go to Paul Edmonds in Knightsbridge. Not exactly local but fabulous.

Now I colour my own hair and wish I could find a good local hairdresser. I think I've tried them all in Richmond and none was great Hmm I avoid mirrors now Sad

I had my eyelashes done by a mobile lady but tbh it wasn't brilliant and I've had eye lash infections regularly since when a bit under the weather. The Sharvata brow bar in House of Fraser Richmond is v good for threading and I think they do lashes but as I said, bit emperor's new clothes IMHO.

MaggieW · 30/04/2012 08:25

Ina at MDM Hair, Earlsfield.

Mrsrobertduvall · 30/04/2012 14:00

I have been to John Carne and Rush and had disastrous results
Gina Carne looks interesting...can you recommend a stylist?

Good beauty salon Louise James in Ewell....

Robert at Metropolis in Kingston. Quite expensive, but fabulous.

I now live 500 miles away, but still go to him when I'm back!

HexGirl · 30/04/2012 14:57

Syd at Q Cut in Kew. I've been going to him for a couple of years now and love it. Pretty reasonable for a cut and colour and they also have a beauty salon downstairs where they offer lash extensions I think.

polyhymnia · 30/04/2012 15:00

Im from that area and I'm afraid I haven't been impressed by any local hairdressers for cut and colour and much prefer to go to a central London salon - Aveda in Holborn for many years and currently Charles Worthington in Covent Garden.

polyhymnia · 30/04/2012 15:04

Btw agree with earler poster John Carne is not very good in my experience. Would also avoid Rush as I would any chain (eg Toni and Guy, Hair Associates).

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 30/04/2012 15:06

It's not really about the chain though, is it? It's about the individual stylist.

Whoneedssleepanyway · 30/04/2012 15:16

I have similar dilemna OP but sadly money is an object.

Have always fancied Gina Conway think it looks good.

My experiences at Rush, Headmasters and the like have been very mixed, I find they are generally find on the cut but colour is really hit and miss. I seem to finally get to a colour I am happy with, stylist has moved on and the next one I try stuffs it all up again.

Sorry not to be more help.

cazza40 · 30/04/2012 16:52

I used to live in Wimbledon and think Gina Conway was the best - I used to see Lisa there not sure if she still works there but she is lovely

Also tried John Carne and Headmasters on the village but moved on when Gina Conway opened

Mrsrobertduvall · 30/04/2012 17:27

I have Metropolis on my radar to check out this week.
I don't understand how hairdressers can get it so wrong. i am sick of going back to get bits rectified..uneven or not enough weight taken out.

polyhymnia · 30/04/2012 18:03

I reckon cutting hair really well must be actually incredibly difficult. Have had few complete disasters but, when I was 'in between' my favourite stylists, lots of so-so cuts that weren't exactly what I wanted.

Have always gone to central London, except when I went to Robert at Metropolis for a while. I did find him pretty good. But, as I worked fulltime in central London, it was actually more convenient for me to have my hair done there than trek in the car to Kingston at a busy weekend. And have to admit I do prefer the 'buzz' in town! (Though that in itself obviously doesn't guarantee a great cut).

HarderToKidnap · 30/04/2012 18:47

Hair By Mitch, its the most fantastic salon www.hairbymitch.com/

lololizzy · 30/04/2012 21:06

is Hair by Mitch in Surbiton? if so, DP is friends with her and says she is amazing as a hairdresser

lololizzy · 30/04/2012 21:08

ah yes it is her! she did DP's hair especially, just before he was going to meet me for the first time! (we met on FB)

gottasmile · 30/04/2012 21:15

ESENTE in Leopold Road in Wimbledon. So so good. They're Italian and everyone comments on my hair when i get it done there.

Mrsrobertduvall · 30/04/2012 21:27

Another bad experience at Essente. Worst fringe I have ever had. I still shudder when I drive past.

Someone else has recommended Hair by Mitch.

OP your experiences with suburban hairdressers reinforce all my prejudices. Obviously there are some good people somewhere out here - as I said,Metropolis are good. But generally I just think we are lucky to be so close to central London where, though there are plenty of poor and mediocre hairdressers, there are also some excellent ones.

polyhymnia · 30/04/2012 22:20

PS Paul Edmonds mentioned by earlier poster is one example of an excellent London hairdresser - have been there too. The two salons I mentioned also have excellent people as do Daniel Galvin and John Frieda.

lololizzy · 30/04/2012 22:23

well Polyhymnia just don't ever go to that cheapest of cheap ones Snippy Snips or something in Kingston! (near Space NK) was very skint when lost job, would've been better doing myself with blunt nail scissors. Cut was about £8.50

polyhymnia · 30/04/2012 22:39

No chance!. But, though hair and a good bra are my top priorities appearance-wise, do very much appreciate that I've been very lucky to have earned enough to be able to go more or less where I wanted for my hair, and that other people have other priorities.

Only because OP said money no object was I suggesting London options (tho the top Gina Conway prices are more than I pay in Covent Garden).
