33 and never done my eyebrows

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/04/2012 21:49

I have noticed recently that my eyebrows have really started to spread especially downwards.

I think I need to do something about this - please advise me...

Would it be foolish to have a bash myself? Just want to remove the hairs that are on their own iyswim, just a tidy, don't want to reshape brow or anything

Does it really hurt? Am I going to faint and be found bruised bleeding and unconscious on my bathroom floor with tweezers embedded in my eye

What equipment do I need? Brand and model. All this S&B stuff is a bit new to me.

Thanks :-)

I would pay to have them done tbh hun it isnt too expensive or painful over in minutes and looks good. If you would rather do them yourself though what I do to reshape them (cant remember where I got this tip from) is use a very sharp eyeliner in a different colour to your brow then draw a line under the part you want to keep-and pluck everything away from underneath. Also I press a warm damp flannel over them first seems to be less painful that way. Youll need tweezers! As for brand I dont think it matters but I prefer slanted ones. Then you have to keep it up-thats where I fail!

Shakey1500 · 27/04/2012 21:55

Watching with interest :) I've reached 42 without doing mine. My perfectly coiffered sister utterly despairs of my eyebrows. That, alongside the fact I never do my nails and they are ALWAYS varying lengths Grin

mysteryfairy · 27/04/2012 22:06

Get them threaded by someone else, shouldn't cost more than £10 maximum. I've had them done for £2.50 at an Asian beautician, my regular place is £6.50 and you can get them done in department stores and even Superdrug.

Once someone else has defined a shape it'll be much easier to just pluck out stray hairs under your brow as they grow back - just use tweezers. It doesn't need to be a big ongoing expense.

I'm 40 and have quite sparse eyebrows so didn't use to bother shaping but it really does improve my face and (may be wishful thinking) make me look younger when they are done.

QueenCadbury · 27/04/2012 22:07

I would go and get them professionally done, either wax or threading and then try and keep on top of them yourself.

I've been waxing mine in an attempt to save money but it never looks quite as good as when one professionally.

kaumana · 27/04/2012 22:09

^^ This, plus if you are fair get them dyed a shade darker, which you can easily do at home too.

TheCraicDealer · 27/04/2012 22:10

Well maintained brows really do transform your face. Gah, I just cringed saying that, but it's true!

If you're fair of brow I'd definitely tint them, really does make a difference. Somehow when I don't do mine (or when I haven't shaded them in with my benefit brow kit) I instantly age 15 years. Not a good look.

If you're not confident I'd pay to get them done somewhere the first time. Then it's a (relatively) easy job maintaining them, just plucking when you see a stray one rearing its ugly head. It's easiest to do this after a shower when your follicles will be all open and unaware of the upcoming assault. Good luck!

FiveHoursSleep · 27/04/2012 22:11

41 and never done mine. Never going to either!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/04/2012 22:17

Hmm I am not fair of brow.

I already have lots of stray hairs, there is the main body of the brow if you see what I mean which is pretty well defined if somewhat large and bushy and then lots of random individual hairs sprouting on the fatty bit beneath my brow.

Would it be ok to just hoick them out, or would I still be risking lopsidedness and public humiliation

kaumana · 27/04/2012 22:21

TBH the cost involved is small. Get it done properly.

TheCraicDealer · 27/04/2012 22:22

Just do little bits on either side at a time, then stand back and look in the mirror to make sure it's all even. Repeat until the stray hairs are all gone. The most important thing is having a pair of good, sharp tweezers, otherwise it'll be really frustrating trying to grab the little buggers. Tweezerman are brilliant, but you may not wish to remortgage your home in the search for tidy brows Grin

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/04/2012 22:26

The thing that worries me about having them done properly is how do I know if they will do a good job? What if they are rubbish and I end up all squint.

TheCraicDealer: best reply so far :-)

Oh, and does it bleed/come up in huge red welts etc?

ninjasquirrel · 27/04/2012 22:28

I do the hoicking out random hairs approach, suits me! You could try that to start with and then decide if you wanted to brave the professional reshaping...

kaumana · 27/04/2012 22:28

I think that's more likely if you do it yourself!

ninjasquirrel · 27/04/2012 22:30

Oh and one at a time doesn't hurt at all really for me (go on pull one out now, dare you!)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/04/2012 22:32

Ninjasquirral: i just hoicked out 2. With my fingernails. Just for you. Guess some tweezers might be an idea though. And you're right it didn't hurt as much as childbirth

OP posts:
ethelb · 27/04/2012 22:32

Or just leave them. A strong brow is pretty fashionable at the mo. I have never plucked mine and more and more models with similar brows are appearing at the mo.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/04/2012 22:34

I'm very happy with a strong brow. Thats exactly the what I want. The problem is my strong brow is creeping towards my eyelashes. Does no-one else have this? Lots of little hairs growing underneath the main brow?

OP posts:
piprabbit · 27/04/2012 22:42

IME tweezing is completely pain-free and very easy. Just go slowly, hold the skin tight and pull in the direction the hair is growing. Stop often to check the overall effect. DOn't get carried away.

piprabbit · 27/04/2012 22:43

Disclaimer: I may be a freak with a weirdly high pain threshold.

kaumana · 27/04/2012 22:43

I think you may be worried that you will end up with skinny brows that were in fashion a while back. Tell your beautician/ threader what you want them to remove. Those little hairs are a bugger to remove by yourself.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/04/2012 22:46

Yes, I get this, even more frustrating given that the main body of the brow is almost non existent in places and has to be pencilled in every day. If only all the strays would grow from the main brow it would be perfect. I do deal with the strays with tweezers, and use my pencil faithfully, makes a big difference to the appearance of my face.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/04/2012 22:55

Right. You lot have helped me make up my mind. Off to peruse tweezers on amazon or would the ones on dps leatherman do

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/04/2012 23:06

Ok, i've looked at amazon and tweezerman seem to be getting all the reviews. £12 for 2" tweezers though! Is it really worth it?
