*stylish* waterproofs?

Can anyone rec a stylish waterproof coat?
I have yet to find something which genuinely keeps the rain out and fits what I laughably call My Style.
Which is - knee length; nipped in at the waist and flaring out over The Danger Area - kind of 40s/50s.
I can't do duffles (stylish as they are, on the right person), or Black's walking attire. I will do a parka at a pinch if it's the right one.

Sorry, can't help but watching with interest! I'm not into Millets chic either! Grin

Littlepumpkinpie · 26/04/2012 11:48

Another Mnetter looking for the same :)

OutfortheCount · 26/04/2012 11:50

Please do join me. Gin and tonic while we're waiting?

Didriksons Celeste any good to you?

OutfortheCount · 26/04/2012 11:54

Good try but not for me, sorry - too 'parka-ry'
I think I'm looking for something more 'coaty'?

Prolesworth · 26/04/2012 11:57

Yes, it is very parka-ry, although it is nipped in at the waist (not apparent from the photo). May be worth checking out some of their other styles - and search for the humungous "waterproof bum covering coat" thread on here for more ideas.

SparkyTGD · 26/04/2012 12:02

What about a trench type, not waterproof but 'shower resistant'?

OutfortheCount · 26/04/2012 12:04

Thanks both.

Proles there are some other very promising ones on your website

Sparky, the trench is right up my alley - but already have a couple of those - need something more rainproof

Drat you, Proles, I now want one of those and I already have a good-enough coat.

Nagoo · 26/04/2012 12:08

The merrell wakefield is half price at field and trek. It got really good reviews on here when I was looking a while back. I still want one but I can't justify it.

I wear a merrell haven, it has only let me down once and that was yesterday when I walked for 2 hours in pissing rain. My mum's barbour failed there too.

The holy grail....I've been looking for such a coat for the past 5 years. My simple requirements are...waterproof, must have a hood, warm but not too warm, and looks good with casual and smart-casual, not an outdoors type coat like Northface, Berghaus etc. How hard can it be!! Watching with interest.....

TheBeanAndTheBee · 26/04/2012 14:46

Watching with interest too....

Nagoo · 26/04/2012 14:49

the massive thread

I've read it. Just get a wakefield. Grin

herbaceous · 26/04/2012 14:53

You've got me looking now too. This could be good though could be a bit 'bosom shelf'.

OutfortheCount · 26/04/2012 19:20

Ah, joy, joy. I am going to find one. It's really going to happen. I can feel it in my bones. Thank you.

Now that lovely one Nagoo - need to work out if would be knee level (for a 5ft 1 inch person)

Thank you for posting that link Nagoo; have just ordered the Merell Wakefield in Black Grin

SpendsyTogs · 26/04/2012 21:02

Another one watching with interest. I'm a huge fan of the cape but just not practical in the weather we're having at the moment Grin

trixymalixy · 26/04/2012 21:21

I have this in noir It is properly waterproof, windproof and seam sealed, stylish enough to wear to work, but looks ok with jeans. Now if they did a zip in down liner for the winter it would be perfection......

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 26/04/2012 22:49

I have a "shower proof" quite nice navy thing, but tbh it's not worth it so I would avoid shower proof. The rain just soaks through the thinnish fabric and seeps into your clothes - you would be better off just wearing a thick wooly thing! (as I discovered the other day).

CustardCreamQueen · 26/04/2012 22:50

Have a look here www.rainfrog.co.uk/subCategory.aspx?object.id=RFROG-CATG-1765
Lovely length, not to hot and very waterproof Smile

um trixymalixy I may love you.
