......Heated rollers!!

Adore them! They give a gorgeous bouncy volumised look...but wonder whats the best product to use before and after to get a shiney non-frizzy affect??

PerryCombover · 30/04/2012 20:24

The doyennes of makeupalley suggest that Caruso jumbo steam rollers are the snizzle

lumbago · 30/04/2012 20:25

To the ones you have

I've got loads of hair and not much patience, instead of faffing with heated rollers I get same effect by blow drying with volume spray in roots/frizz ease 3 day straight or L'oreal hot straight on lengths, then I have a big fat set of tongs that were about £10 in Boots and I just tong the sections the same way you would roll them onto the rollers...stick a grip in while I go round my head then all the bits are cold so I can take the grips out, then brush with a bristle brush and spray with Ellnette :)

I don't do it often but always get compliments, it goes all lovely. If your hair is too long or doesn't have enough layering it might look a bit Kate Middleton though...Sometimes I use a smaller tong if I need it to stay in longer e.g. at weddings.

Hi 531....I'm back but have just realised I don't actually have anything to link to!!! I'm crap really.....

Yes I think I'm turning into my mum too with the Carmens in!!

I'm definitely leaving the poker straight hair look behind. Volume all the way baby, much, much more flattering methinks!!

btw I love my rollered hair the most the day after when its got that just got out of bed look!!

I already owned the babyliss rollers but then foolishly followed the babyliss big hair craze on here, and the big hair made no difference to my hair.

I do end up with Kate Middleton hair, but it will just have to do. I would like to be able to use rollers in that way that adds volume at the roots, but I think it probably takes a lot more time and expertise.

MrsBovary · 01/05/2012 00:39

I still have old fashioned heated rollers in storage.

But recently bought these jumbo rollers:

I use a flexible hold hairspray afterwards.

I have babyliss thermoceramic heated rollers - you need to remember which direction to roll in
I have lots Of hair it takes ages to get them all in then leave them in for 30-40 mins - wouldn't be doing it everyday!

But I also have the babyliss heated curler thingy -and I find it great for every day curls fairly easily - slightly better and quicker effect than the heated rollers

valiumredhead · 01/05/2012 08:17

In Wilkos yesterday I saw HUGE tongs - I think they might be the way to go and possible easier to be precise with the curls and less Shirley Temple. I am tempted...

valiumredhead · 01/05/2012 08:18

gg was it you that ordered Bare Minerals form ebay? I just discovered the foundation is only a tenner on there! Wooo hoo!

ggirl · 01/05/2012 08:53

Yes I bought from a seller called radiance-uk ...but just had a look and she has nothing on ebay atm. Was a bargain!

valiumredhead · 01/05/2012 09:03

I can't remember who I ordered from just that they were cheap Grin Fab price as last year everything was nearly as expensive on ebay as it was in the shops!

Hairdust is meant to be amazing for limp hair.

Pinot · 01/05/2012 09:34

I need a definitive "THESE ONES" link please! I haven't been an S&B sheep for, oooh, days now!

Pinot · 01/05/2012 09:35

Viv you just made my brain ache :o

SeaHouses · 01/05/2012 11:24

I think I understand what you mean, Vivian. I'm quite happy to use small heated rollers to do it because I don't mind the ends looking a bit 1976. I'll give the parting method a go.

Somebody mentioned sleep in rollers on AIBU. The video of somebody using those showed them putting in two partings and then rolling the centre section backwards rather than up from the middle.

I am thinking of getting the sleep in ones for DD because her hair is really thick and difficult to manage, but neither of us will be bothered to spend time on her hair in the morning (she's about to go to secondary school).

They look like they might be good and easier then rollers...

valiumredhead · 01/05/2012 11:31

I'd be interested in those velcro rollers - I bought some velcro ones and they won't even stay in my hair - don't know if they will all be the same.

Have you tried the sock bun sea? That might be more comfy to sleep in!

SeaHouses · 01/05/2012 11:45

Supposedly the rollers are comfy to sleep in because they are foam and go flat if you put pressure on them. I have tried the sock bun and although it works on me and I end up with waves the next day, DD's hair is just too thick and coarse. I am thinking that perhaps putting it in rollers will help the hair shaft to lie flat so that her hair will look sleeker without applying any heat devices to it which I don't want to do because a. it will damage her hair and make it worse and b. we're pretty lazy about hair.
