An ivory dress?
Going to v posh wedding tomorrow and made my dress. Big mistake. Just tried it on and it just isn't right. All accessories shoes etc bought to go with this dress which is a distinctive colour. We have to leave at 9 tomorrow to get there in time. What is the position on an ivory dress which is basically my only other option and I'm not going to look very dressy if I wear it. Is it frowned upon to wear ivory to a wedding?

Could you re-take up the hem on the green one?

MrsLettuce · 20/04/2012 19:26

So, you have a blue hat, shoes & bag. Some sort of shrug / wrap?

surely that'll be OK with the ivory? I wouldn't put the silver shoes with it though, not for a wedding.

MrsLettuce · 20/04/2012 19:27

and, if you can, you really should post a (headless) picture of the dress you made on. It could be that it is alright after all...

BellaVita · 20/04/2012 19:27

Virgil, the LK Bennett dress... I would unpick the hem and redo it - job's a goodun.

AprilLilacs · 20/04/2012 19:27

Green dress or black dress - blue accessories with the black one could look really nice?

Don't wear ivory - even if the bride doesn't care, SOMEONE will notice and sneer.

Hermionewastherealhero · 20/04/2012 19:27

I'd go with the green dress, people on't notice the hem as much as they will an ivory dress and you will be less self aware all day. An ivory dress and silv shoes is really a no go IMO- sorry

virgil · 20/04/2012 19:30

The hemline is beyond me makescakes it's chiffon and I'll make it even worse.

Can't work out how to post pictures from my iPad. Not sure I can

Would the blue accessories go with the green dress?

EnjoyResponsibly · 20/04/2012 19:33

Can you order something from Next and have it delivered to where you're staying? If you do it by 9 tonight they deliver by 1 I think next day, so outfit could be waiting at your hotel.

TBH no one will be looking at your hem. They will all be gawping at the woman in the big ivory dress, so don't confuse them.

PineappleBed · 20/04/2012 19:35

I'd go green. No one will notice a dodgy hem on a chiffon dress. I really wouldn't do ivory. I wasn't a bridzilla at all (ppl said I wasn't not being up myself I hope) but I wouldn't have been happy at all with someone wearing ivory even with colourful accessories. Black would be better if the green is unwearable.

PineappleBed · 20/04/2012 19:36

Oh tesco is a good idea! Some of the dresses are really nice!

OP Coast also do a 90 minute delivery service, you pay a premium but if there's a participating store near where you're staying it might work.

Leave super early in the morning so you have some shopping time near the wedding venue? Either that or wear the black dress with the blue accessories.

virgil · 20/04/2012 19:47

Omg coast do 90 minute delivery!! That might be my solution!! Thank you!

what size are you and where are you? I have some fancy dresses you can have!

ameliameerkat · 20/04/2012 19:51

Virgil - where are you? And what dress size are you? There's a chance there's a Mumsnetter close by who could lend you something! If you're a 10/12 and live in Edinburgh I could help! (I have a whole wardrobe full of dresses, they're my weakness Blush)

ameliameerkat · 20/04/2012 19:52

Cross post with AprilLilacs!! Grin

feelinghappynow · 20/04/2012 20:02

That last Tesco dress is lovely.

Do you have anyone close who could pop round and give you a second opinion on the dresses you have, or lend you something, or accessories? At a push I think you could get away with the ivory dress if you accessorise it right.

feelinghappynow · 20/04/2012 20:02

24 hour Tesco and go at the crack of dawn???

sooperdooper · 20/04/2012 20:14

I'd go with the black dress, can you post a pic?? :)
