I really hate that I had my hair cut short. Does anyone have any crazy ideas about what I can do to make it grow Hmm?

BellaVita · 14/04/2012 19:54

A wig?

PavlovtheCat · 14/04/2012 19:54

a wig.

if it makes you feel better. I hate my hair short and blonde.

topsyturner · 14/04/2012 19:56

I have very short and very fuzzy post chemo hair at the moment , so I sympathise deeply Grin

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 14/04/2012 19:57

hair extensions?

Take perfectil supplements in the hope it helps it grow quicker?

Wear baseball caps/hats every time you go out?

Or look at how to style it while short and make the most of it- you never know, you may get used to it.

ggirltwin2pinot · 14/04/2012 19:59

just make the most of your makeup and earrings
short hair and fab makeup looks great

Heswall · 14/04/2012 20:10

Hair extensions for sure, the only way. I look like a bloke with short hair, never, never again

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 14/04/2012 20:16

Bless you.

I was toying with the idea of going for short hair last week - I mentioned it to my sister who reminded me that I have never ever been happy with short hair

Phrases like 'remember the mullet in between stage you had' and 'you know you'll look like a minger' and 'please don't - I can't bear to listen to you angsting about your hair for the next six months while it grows back' helped to change my mind

She also kindly emailed me some pictures of my really bad-hair cuts!

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 14/04/2012 20:21

Sorry Blush.

pics please. let us judge you for ourselves.

my hair looks fab with a ton of make up and really long plastered with mascara eyelashes, very glossy lip gloss. But, seeing as I tend to wear no make up as I have no time cant be bothered and have red blotchy skin I in fact look like a fright.

as ggirl said, make up is the way to go, have you changed your make-up, how you wear your make-up, how you match your clothes? I find what I wear also makes a difference to how I feel about it too.

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 14/04/2012 21:00

Never wear make up. Not pretty. Old. Not fashinable. Really hating my hair and my looks. Never been bothered before but now I care that I am ugly and I am embarrassed and ashamed.

Sad

It will grow back. Please don't be so hard on yourself.

dinkystinkyandveryverybored · 14/04/2012 21:19

OP - I never wear make up either - seriously, styling your hair in the interim will help. If you really do hate it, go in to see a good pro hairdresser and see what they say can be done - extensions may be an idea but also they may be able to style it to make it look different and better in your eyes (depending on how short it is) or put a colour through it to make it look fuller. It will grow back as BelleDame says - just give it time.

drywhiteplease · 14/04/2012 21:22

Oh idontwant I feel sorry for you. But seriously try to make the most of it because you just can't feel crap and hide for a few months. Start wearing make up (by MN standards I'm old too and never go out without make up), statement jewellery, sunglasses on head , why don't you try some new style outfits too (nice clothes make me feel so confident).
And finally don't go on about how much you hate your hair.....us women always point out the negative bits that most people would not notice otherwise.

Yama · 14/04/2012 21:27

I can only give you sympathy. Empathy actually. For 36 friggin years I understood that my face suited long hair. I resisted the urges to go short. I ignored hip and cool hairdressers telling me that they could make me look younger.

Until 2 months ago that is. I haven't told anyone in real life but I hate my haircut and will have it long forever (once it has grown that is).

MessyTerrier · 14/04/2012 21:33

Oh, OP. Smile Don't panic! Short hair grows back faster (fact!). I have short hair and I always hate it for the first two weeks and then it sort of settles in a bit and I'm happy with it (as well as the low-maintenance aspect). Do you know how to dry it or style it to make the best of it? Sometimes it's good, I think, to have a really good haircut and get rid of all the dry stuff and start again. I lost a lot of hair after my DC3 was born and I had a really drastic short haircut in despair and now it's growing back and looks better than ever. Lots of veggies, protein and iron really help the hair grow too. In my worst moments I tried to focus on the people I know that have lost all their hair for various health-related reasons; it changed my perspective.

Bettybleu · 15/04/2012 00:15

Scalp massage either with or without conditioner/oil? Hair and nails seem to grow faster in spring/summer, just have a healthy diet with enough protein and sleep to support your new growth.

On the plus side, your hair will be in good condition, nurture it and remember that every day it will have grown a little.

At the risk of speaking out of turn can I suggest that you be a little kinder to yourself? Your choice of name and how you describe yourself make me feel sad :(

mathanxiety · 15/04/2012 04:01

Try a little makeup while it's short? Paying attention to your eyes and facial structure can really reap dividends when your hair is short. You don't have to be 'pretty' to use a bit of foundation or even good quality moisturiser and a dab of blush or to have your eyebrows done.

Get some lovely perfume that you really love and that lifts your spirits? Get some big earrings or large clunky necklaces?

mathanxiety · 15/04/2012 04:03

Don't limit yourself or see yourself as the glass half empty. Best foot forward.

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 15/04/2012 04:54

Aww don't be ashamed Sad
I had my hair cut short once after months of growing it and was so upset the next day when I remembered, but it grew back.
I think wearing scarves with short hair is nice. Not round your head to cover it up tho Smile and lots of mascara even if you don't normally wear make up.
What style is your hair?
Don't be sad. Says me who is also sad for similar reasons to you, minus the hair thing.

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 15/04/2012 13:06

Thank you very much for your kind words and ideas. I feel stupid that I want o be more groomed like I am trying to be something I am not as I am overweight and not attractive. But I can see that when I do wear make up I look pretty Blush. I feel self conscious though so usually don't bother again. I really want to exercise (currently in my gym gear but just had lunch) but don't know where to start.

OP posts:
IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 15/04/2012 13:08

BTW I took a picture " so MN can see how ugly I am" but DH won't show me how to upload it.

OP posts:
drywhiteplease · 15/04/2012 18:33

idontwanttobefatanymore trying to be something I'm not tosh!!!! Why aren't you allowed to feel attractive? Most of us look overweight and unattractive first thing in the morning but with a bit of make up and clever dressing end up looking ok really. Why aren't you worth it? I don't get it. If you feel pretty and better about yourself with a bit of make up why wouldn't you wear it all the time?

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 15/04/2012 19:22

I am not confident it looks right and I barely have time to brush my hair in the morning so doing full make up seems impossible Blush.

I did 1 hour and 3 minutes exercise today Smile.

JoyceDivision · 15/04/2012 19:25

I love short hair! Really short pixie crops are fab. Looking back at pics of me, I look much better with short hair than longer, with or without make up.

I'm not saying I'm beautiful, just look less like an inbred wild mountain dog with short hair than with long Grin

sorry, that's not much help, is it?

mathanxiety · 15/04/2012 19:32

A bit of tinted moisturiser, blush and a swipe of eyeshadow and mascara would take no more than 5 minutes.
