I finally had my rather boring long brown hair cut into a decent style and I love it- it's now a long-ish bob that is shorter at the back than the front and looks rather funky much better than the straggly ponytail look I had before anyway

So all you groomed and stylish ladies, how often do you have your hair cut in order to maintain it in a style that you like? And do you always go back to the same person if you are just having a trim? This time I went for a senior stylist at Toni and Guy and it was £55- seems a lot to me, but she was sooo good and really took the time to talk about what would suit me etc.

I find its how I treat my hair that has the biggest impact on how styled it stays. Only go to hairdressers about every 6 months - this is probably way too little but I look after it well day-to-day - coconut oil 1-2 nights a week, use lush henna dye (which is amazing btw) and don't brush it hardly at all.

£140 for cut & colour every 6 weeks.

I hate my grey showing through or my cut growing out (short, dark hair)

Bluestocking · 12/04/2012 21:15

I have mine cut every four/five weeks and pay £40. I have a sharp short haircut and it grows fast.

polyhymnia · 12/04/2012 22:30

Short style so about every 6-7 weeks. Cost including colour similar to what ifancy says.

QED · 12/04/2012 22:32

Mine is growing. But being my hair it is doing it slowly. Was having it cut every 6 weeks - now have cut it back to every 8 weeks. Costs £15 for wash and cut and rough blow dry.

kikid · 12/04/2012 22:34

long hair only cut every 6 months or so, pay about £20
colour it myself at home every 6-8 weeks..

daenerysstormborn · 12/04/2012 22:36

my hair is short and grows fast, so normally get it trimmed about every 6-8 weeks. i get a dry trim with the senior stylist, it's £18. do the colour myself.

Northernlurker · 12/04/2012 22:46

Imo it's worth paying whatever you can afford. I pay £47 at the moment for a cut - about every 8 weeks. It looks great - my hairdresser is fantastic.

MaeMobley · 13/04/2012 09:17

every 6 weeks - approx £120-£150 for cut & colour. I also use the shampoo and conditioner recommended by my hairdresser. I always see the same person.

DairyNips · 13/04/2012 09:21

I get mine cut 2-3 times a year at the most. This is mostly because I can't afford more often. I colour it at home when I feel like it. If I could afford I'd probably have it professionally coloured and cut a bit more often.

DairyNips · 13/04/2012 09:22

Btw it costs about £20 when I get it cut.

Hopefully · 13/04/2012 09:48

When I have long hair I get it cut about every 18 months Blush (v straight, good condition hair), but now it's in a bob I really struggle to go more than 7 weeks, because it just looks so shapeless! I pay something like £40 I think, might be £45. Typically, I have finally found a good hairdresser and we are moving 200 miles away in the summer...

flightofthe7millionbumblebees · 13/04/2012 09:54

When I had a short cut it needed cutting every five weeks to maintain the style, but now it's long I get a trim every 8 to 10 weeks. If I leave it any longer the ends start to get straggly. I pay about £35. I've paid a lot more in the past for far worse cuts - I have a theory that once you start paying over £30 for a cut and finish it depends more on the individual hairdresser than how much you pay.

Labootin · 13/04/2012 10:07

Every five weeks (v short bob verging in pixieish) my roots need doing at the same time so about £90

KlickKlackknobsac · 13/04/2012 10:12

every 5 to 6 weeks, cut and colour (roots and sometimes foils)
Costs £40 but £55 if have foils too.
No idea who is paying £160 a time!!! Why??????????

shelley72 · 13/04/2012 10:20

quickhide your new haircut sounds like somehting i am contemplating as my hair is total crap at the minute and am thinking of getting it all chopped off. which T&G did you go to and do you have a pic of the type of haircut? also do you think its going to be high maintenance? im not sure i can afford £55 every 6 weeks Shock
thanks!

higgle · 13/04/2012 10:26

Hairdressers every 6 weeks, I have a pattern of cut, Full set of high&lowlights/cut/T section. This seems to keep hair looking pretty good most of the time ( just above shoulder length bob with layers) I pay £40 for a cut, £ 75 for the T section and £100 for a full set of highlights. (colouring costs nclusive of cut) I absoloutely hate spending hours in the hairdressers so the T section visit is really more because it saves me time than because it is much cheaper.

supernannyisace · 13/04/2012 11:03

Currently growing out a 1" crop - so am currently in short bob with fringe. I am trying to leave it as long as poss in between cuts, so can grow out. But it needs tidying up every 8 weeks or less.

I pay £20 for wash, cut and dry/style. I wouldn't want to pay a lot more - unless it was for a total re-style- and some more modern ideas.

Ephiny · 13/04/2012 15:17

I get mine cut about every 3 months, with a fringe trim in between. It's a medium-length bob with side-fringe, not particularly high-maintenance.

It's about £40 for a cut and blowdry, I usually see the same stylist but I'm happy to have someone else if she's not available on the day I want to go.

BackforGood · 13/04/2012 15:20

About every 6 weeks for a cut and blow dry, then about every 3rd cut I have some colour put on. My lovely next door neighbour will only take a fiver for a cut and blow though - and £20 for a colour, cut and blow Smile

OrmIrian · 13/04/2012 15:25

I was wondering this too. Have just had it cut into a v short layered bob cut in at the back. It's styled around my face with quite a long fringe - if I leave it too long the fringe will be in my face and I'll end up flicking it out all the time which will change the shape entirely. So I am thinking perhaps 5/6 weeks.

I paid 21 for a cut and blow dry but I rounded it up to 25 because at that moment I loved my hairdresser very very much Grin

first1 · 13/04/2012 15:31

Trim and gloss colour every 8 weeks about £90 with the salon manager.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/04/2012 17:45

I've been growing mine for the last couple of years, when it was really short it needed cutting every 6 weeks or so, now it is longer layers (below shoulders but above bra strap) it can go a good bit longer, apart from the fringe. It is 9 weeks since I had it cut and it is looking really good.

I pay about £30 for the salon owner to cut it, she has been doing it for years and does a great job, but save a bit by having a wet cut not a cut and blow. I keep it in condition by using minimal heat styling (although I have to blow dry my fringe straight every day). I use Lush henna for my colour too, it is fabulous, if a bit messy, saves a fortune though. I only have one or two greys though, not sure how well it will cope when I get more of them

littledolly · 13/04/2012 17:54

Found a great stylist a few years ago & always go to her. Have short bob so go every 6-7 weeks for a cut at £24. Get highlights done 3 times a year too & it's £60 for that & the cut/blow dry. My hair is a nightmare shape & she's knows well what will suit me & also what I can manage and am comfortable with. Often get complemented on my cut & asked who does it.
