we never get the opportunity to dress up so i would like to get them something really nice but have no clue what would suit or be too much etc.

where shold i look and what sort of thing should i look for? both boys are blonde with blue eyes. 6 year old is short, dirty fair hair and 3 year old has long curly really blonde hair. 6 year old is quite skinny. 3 year old not skinny but not quite fitting 3 year old clothes height wise.

TIA

I'ld buy mine cheenos, shirt and a little jumper, maybe sleeveless jumper, depending on the weather. I wouldn't put a suit or tie on small boys, I'ld go for smart casual.

BillyBollyBandy · 10/04/2012 20:06

Possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen is my 3yo dnephew in Thomas Tank Braces and Tie. I accept that isn't for everyone though.

FuckedOfftotheFarSideofFuck · 10/04/2012 20:08

yep, chinos/beige trousers of some description and a shirt for both in my book.
(with t-shirt/vest/long sleeved top underneath for warmth if required).

I am not sure what I would do about shoes. If it's summer, you might be ok to have some kind of leather sandal... Hmm

PerryCombover · 10/04/2012 20:13

Not those terrible white pimp suits

IAmBooyhoo · 10/04/2012 20:13

thank you all. it seems chinos are the way to go. i agree i dont like the suit with tie look at all on children.

what colours of shirts are 'in' at the minute and forgive me but the only tank tops i have seen for children are hideous. have you any recomendations? wedding is at the start of june so i am hoping it wont be cold anyway but you never know.

Maybe light blue shirt, navy tank top and chinos? Mind you I liked the braces (no suit though) so it may be that I am not to be trusted Wink Smile

I really like the idea of chinos and linen nerali(?) shirts.

Very smart but definitely reuseable.

FuckedOfftotheFarSideofFuck · 10/04/2012 21:15

Yup, I approve of your choices!

I think your outfit choices are good, as others have said you may want to look into sweater vest for them to, just to keep them warm if the weather doesn't stay nice!!

MissGreatBritain · 10/04/2012 21:22

My Ds aged 3 went to a wedding in just below knee length linen shorts, with a white linen grandad shirt (untucked) and a linen waistcoat (from Verbaudet) and brown leather sandals. Oh and big carnation buttonhole. He looked fantastic - all the old ladies went silly over him Grin

IAmBooyhoo · 10/04/2012 21:23

yes i thought that about the distressed chinos (the dark ones for ds1 right?)

i couldn't find deck shoes in ds2 small size (baby 7) other wise i would choose deck shoes for him too. do you know of anywhere that does small boy deck shoes?

My boys had these for a recent wedding.

BHS

They are smarter than others have suggested but pretty good value imo.

Chinateacup · 10/04/2012 21:28

Russell & Bromley do small deck shoes I'm sure but they ain't cheap.

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 10/04/2012 21:33

stone chino shorts, white long-sleeved shirts (I like the gap ones) and v-neck jumpers (brora if you're splashing out) with leather shoes for the summer and boots for cooler weather.

frankie4 · 10/04/2012 21:37

Mine wore knee length linen shorts, check shirts with v neck tank top. Wore new converse shoes with ankle socks. Looked amazing!!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 10/04/2012 21:39

For an August wedding last year my 2 ds's (who were 3 and 5) were navy linen shorts with casual short sleeved shirts (one from M+S and one from Next). I'd bought jumpers for them too but it was warm enough that they weren't worn. They wore new canvas velcro fastened shoes on their feet (mainly because I needed to get something that I was certain would be worn again).

Your ideas look lovely.

IAmBooyhoo · 10/04/2012 21:41

i'm in NI so no R&B here. looks £££ aswell so maybe that's a good thing Grin

thank you all. i think i have a good idea of what i am going to go for. think i might get shorts in the same colours as the chinos and then i'll have options depending on what the weather does. going to keep looking for deck shoes for ds2 as i really like them.

Debenhams have got me out of wedding dilemmas when ds was smaller. They have naff stuff, but look carefully - I dressed ds in navy linen suit for wedding last summer with white linen shirt all from Debenhams.

They also seem to have a continual sale on...

elvisaintdead · 10/04/2012 21:46

We got married fairly recently and a third of our guests were children. The outfits ranged from full on suits and ties to jeans and a hawaiin style shirt and pretty much everything in between. They all looked gorgeous so I would say go with something they will be comfotable in, you feel comfortable with them being at the wedding/in photos in and something that suits your budget and desire to re-use afterwards. (as an aside, the little boys in ligh coloured Chino's pretty much wrecked them playing in the grass afterwards...be prepared for this if going for that option!)

uggmum · 10/04/2012 21:49

When my ds was 3 we went to a family wedding. I didn't buy a suit as I knew he wouldn't wear it again. So I bought some lovely chinos, a shirt and a woollen tank top. It looked lovely and he wore it a lot.

ceebeegeebies · 10/04/2012 21:51

We went to BIL and SIL's wedding a couple of years ago - the DS's were 3 and 18 mo at the time. I dressed them pretty much as suggested here - DS1 was in beige chinos and a pale blue shirt and DS2 was in smart brown cords with a shirt and knitted tank top over the top (I had asked SIL what the dress code was and she said not too formal). I thought they looked great until we got there and all the other children were all dressed in suits/waistcoats and ties so my 2 looked very underdressed which was very Blush particularly as they were the most immediate family DC there. I still cringe a bit about it now.

Move forward 2 years and my DSis is getting married in a few weeks and my 2 boys are now nearly 6 and 3 (the same age as yours) and I am having the same dilemma. Again, DSis says it is not formal but it turns out my DBro has already bought his 4 year old boy a suit so I have guessed that I need to dress my 2 formally otherwise they will stand out again Sad

Sorry for the essay - it is just a topical issue close to my heart at the moment Grin

IAmBooyhoo · 10/04/2012 21:53

ooh, thanks elvis. i hadn't considered the destructive element of my 3 year old. Grin i'm guessing though that stain removers are pretty good at grass stains nowadays though
