Sooooo, I bought a bottle of vitamin E oil

It cost me £10 which is a huge amount in this house right now. My last product for the skin was Asda own face cream at £1.20. T'was crap btw.

So I am hoping this glass bottle of magic will serve for my face, a bit of body (very dry hands, feet and shins) and also my dds all over dry skin.

Thing is I didn't expect it to be so very very gloopy. How do I use it? Confused

sparingly! Like a dot at a time.

I use argan oil as a face moisturiser, body moisturiser and for cuticles/lips and it's literally a dot here, a dot there, and rub rub rub in.

Should last yonks!

MadamePinot · 10/04/2012 12:27

Lidl does vair good creams for face and body btw. Iseree range - from a quid up to a whole £3.49. Recommend them :)

treedelivery · 10/04/2012 12:31

No Lidl for about 50 miles sadly - but I have high hopes for this stuff and I'm keen to use an entirely natural product. A one shot wonder for the whole house.

Do you think I should lighten it with something, for my face? Maybe something like Almond oil or something? I have no idea.

I have just used some and my face still feels tight and like it needs a good slather of Astral Blush

I've used sweet almond oil on my face before and as a mixer oil - it's lovely and light.

MissFoodie will know best - she's a wizard at oils etc. I'll send her this way.

treedelivery · 10/04/2012 13:14

Ooo thanks Smile

Will bear sweet almond oil in mind too and see what I can find out about it.

I also have a big tub of coconut butter on it's way. It's organic and everything Grin

here you go :)

This was intro feature, there are other oils featured throughout the site, plus a load I haven't had time to write about yet...sorry

I personally dont use oil during the day, I prefer a water based serum + light cream, but love oil at night.

When you say Vitamin E oil, what is it exactly? can you tell me the ingredients? Vit E isn't an ingredient.... :)

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 13:55

oh and if you have the coconut oil coming, here you go: amazing eye make up remover/cleanser

www.yumetcetera.com/2011/05/coconut-oil-ultimate-cleanser.html

if you don't like it on your face, use it to make flapjacks! or use in the bath!

MadamePinot · 10/04/2012 14:24

See, MissF knows everything. I worship at her oil altar! Wink

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 14:24

LOL Blush

treedelivery · 10/04/2012 14:35

Ooo hello! Thank you for all the links I'll read them straight away.

The oil I bought is www.healthaid.co.uk/shopexd.aspx?id=584 this. I hope it isn't crap, please don't tell me it's crap

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 14:51

hhmm not sure...not much info on website, does it have any ingredients listed on the box?

Vit E is usually listed as Tocopherol Acetate, but should be in some sort of oily liquid, hopefully something vegetable or nut - but superdrug vit e is baby oil and silicone (I think) which is a no no

treedelivery · 10/04/2012 14:57

Ok - box says Pure Vitamin Oil 50,000IU (di-alpha tocopheryl acetate) Two drops are equivalent to 200mg of Vitamin E

Free of parabens, sulphates, propylene gycols, PEGS, TEA, artificial colouring or fragrances.

Whadyathink?

OP posts:
treedelivery · 10/04/2012 15:00

It's the most amazing gloop.

OP posts:
MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 15:03

am sure it's fine, the only thing is I don't see how using it alone will be enough? (I've contacted them anyway as am curious, doubt they will reply, but you never know....!)

Have you tried it yet then? does it sink in well?

treedelivery · 10/04/2012 15:08

I've patted some on - and I was surprised that it did soak in pretty well. The only thing it doesn't do is actually spread. So where you put it, is where you get it. It reminds me of applying Creme de la Mer, which I had a small pot of many moons ago. I had to pat that on too.

I put some on my nails and cuticles and they gobbled it up.

Actually as it warms up in the house it seems to be getting a little lighter. It was stone cold through the post. Still gloop though.

So maybe put some in some sweet almond then. Might try that.

OP posts:
MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 15:11

Yes, maybe mix with SA or Jojoba even?

treedelivery · 10/04/2012 15:16

Whicht do you suggest for tissue paper thin skin that is dehydrated, lined and freckly/white/grey/blue.

Attractive!

P.S. am sensitive to our local water so my face literally never gets washed!!!

OP posts:
MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 15:18

sounds lovely - hahahah
it's really hard, you need to experiment really, but oil alone won't help, I get very dehydrated skin so apply a water based serum first, then oil or cream on top. If you're on a tight budget you could try aloe vera gel?
Do you wear make up? and if so, er, how do you remove?
:)

Ryoko · 10/04/2012 15:23

I want to go natural too, whats good stuff to try.

I'm currently using a tub of £1 cocoa butter and rescue oil from the pound shop for my face (it has peach kernel oil, almond oil, evening primrose oil and some perservatives/colour and parfum) I would like to just make my own of that with just the oils.

I was looking at the cooking oil section in Asda they have Walnut oil is that any good for anything? they also have bottles of coconut oil in the ethnic section and being someone who has only ever used olive oil and coconut cream as natural moisturisers before. Do you need to mix them with anything lighter and if so what?, is rapeseed lighter? where do you buy castor oil I know thats light?.

Where do you buy the simple plan oils from at a cheap price like Primrose and Almond etc and what are the top ones to use?. I heard rosemary is spost to be good but I've never seen that too.

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 15:26

best place to buy oils is online at Fushi or Amazon

treedelivery · 10/04/2012 15:30

I use a cream cleanser and use cotton pads. Water makes me tight and red and blotchy. Even in the shower my forehead gets it from rinsing in shower.

Water based serum. Riiiight.

If I google 'water based serum' one will just pop up - right? Grin

I hate trying to do things on the cheap - if I had any cash I'd just go to Neals Yard and throw myself on their mercy.

OP posts:
treedelivery · 10/04/2012 15:32

My cuticles look better already. Wow.

Hands still look like albino dried out old leaves....but I'll keep it up.

OP posts:
MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 15:45

LOL
ok, what I mean is that when you look for serums they are either oil or water based, so if you're using oil, and/or have dehydrated rather than dry skin, a water based serum is better. These are usually Aloe Vera based.

Have you tried cleansing with cream cleanser plus flannel and hot water? the problem with cotton wool is you're not really cleansing, you're kind of rubbing the crap into your face :)

If not, then at least use rosewater and do a double cleanse, you'll be surprised at how much crap is left!

Have you tried Melvita? they are not expensive and also do online if you're not near a store.

Will try to think of some non expensive brands for you!

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 15:50

Ok, here you go - am assuming you don't want to spend £40 quid on a serum, right?
this stuff is really nice, I've tried it:
uk.melvita.com/rose-hyaluronic-acid-extraordinary-water-melvita-uk,8,1,4948,34246.htm

They do 2 other ones but this is the nicest of the three, it's like a thick toner (or runny gel), you put all over your face after cleansing, leave to soak in, the put your oil or cream on top.
Apply with fingers, cotton wool is a waste.
It's really hydrating, contains Hylauronic Acid and smells good - this and your oil, and you should be seeing a difference within a few days :)

Also, put all over eyes too!

sherbetpips · 10/04/2012 15:54

dont suppose your darling children have any patches of dry skin do they? if so straight to the doctors with you and said child - ask for a prescription (free for kids) for E45 - they give you a huge tub of it - last for months!
