Skin tag removal

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 07/04/2012 18:07

I have a skin tag on the eye bone and one to the right of my eye. The beautician today wouldn't remove it today as she said it would scar and the other was too close to the eye. Am I stuck with them? [busad]

Try your GP

ScarfOfSexualPreference · 07/04/2012 18:20

Yes see your Dr- I think they are more health related than beauty? I have a few I want to get rid of once I get to my weightloss goal.

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 07/04/2012 18:23

I will give the surgery a call next week. I suspect the receptionist will say no. They are not particularly helpful.

One way to remove them is to tie thread around the base as tight as you can to cut of blood supply - takes a couple of weeks and then it should drop off. Officially gps cannot remove them for cosmetic reasons but if they catch on clothing, brushes, glasses etc then they can. Hope this helps

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 07/04/2012 18:37

DH just tried to tie some dental floss around it but it wasn't really working.

Or try Sk:n clinic if you're prepared to pay

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 08/04/2012 09:47

I am prepared to pay as I expected too. Thank you.

mrsebojones · 08/04/2012 11:58

Definitely speak to your GP. My neighbour just had a coupl removed at our very good surgery.

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 08/04/2012 12:07

Ah, where that is where I am stuck as I am not at a very good surgery.

i had one near my bekini line - mentioned it to the nurse that it bugged me when she did my smear- she zapped it with liquid nitrogen there and then! she said if i had anymore to come back on a friday- so definately contact gp they may do it.

cremeeggsrock · 08/04/2012 21:54

Dental floss really works but needs tied tightly, can take several days for Skin tag to fall off though! husbands took nearly a week cut thread short, not too noticeable! this is the lambs tail effect [bugrin]

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 08/04/2012 22:00

I had a skin tag at the bottom of my left eye - not on the eyelid itself but just under the lashes iyswim? Anyway, went to Dr, got referred to hospital and had it removed via laser. It didnt hurt at all, but the smell of burning flesh made me want to heave. And the worst part of all was getting the drop put in my eye to numb it and keep the eye open.

I wouldnt have let a beautician near it and nor should they. Oh, no scarring at all.

HappyHoppyChick · 08/04/2012 22:00

I used a hair on mine (instead of dental floss). Took a little while (a week maybe?) but went black and came off.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 08/04/2012 22:02

What causes them?

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 09/04/2012 09:00

I have had one lot of dental floss and one of cotton but it is still there and the thread falls off in the night. Just when I decide I need to spend some time on my appearance I get this! If I wear my glasses all the time it might be hidden Hmm.

Highly recommend laser - I had a facial mole removed by laser at Sk:n clinic and there is no scar at all and only took a few minutes. Had another mole removed by GP at surgery and I have a scar of about an inch long - not on face fortunately.

porkypine · 09/04/2012 20:29

You could always just buy some Emla cream from the pharmacy and take it off swiftly with a razor blade. I've done hundreds for my very knobbly husband, including on his eye lids - most don't bleed and you can't see where they were.

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 09/04/2012 20:35

Shock at shaving it off.

Grumpystiltskin · 09/04/2012 20:56

{shock} at wanting a beautician to remove it Confused at how she would pay you compensation if it all went wrong.

GP is definitely the way forward. Whilst tying them off is a good idea I'm not sure it's reliable enough to do it on your face without scarring. I'm just a dentist but we do quite a lot of facial aesthetics and scarring is always the big worry.

Littlepumpkinpie · 09/04/2012 21:06

Go to the GP they will do it for you as a minor operation it takes them seconds to do to.

IDontWantToBeFatAnymore · 09/04/2012 21:07

I have had some removed on my arm at a salon so don't get why it is so shocking t9 have gone there. It looks smaller today Confused.

porcamiseria · 10/04/2012 09:22

dont expect the NHS to do it! I removed mine myself
