Skin tag removal

I have a skin tag on the eye bone and one to the right of my eye. The beautician today wouldn't remove it today as she said it would scar and the other was too close to the eye. Am I stuck with them? [busad]

I am seeing the doctor in 2 days about having it removed. I am happy to pay, I wouldn't want to take from the cash strapped NHS.

GP can do it with liquid nitrogen spray - stings a bit but works very well.

SKin tags can be an indicator of raised blood sugar, possibly linked to syndrome X or type II diabetes. If you get several/lots of them, get your blood sugar checked and consider changing your diet to reduce high GI carbs/sugars.

I am shamed to say I pulled mine off Blush

Ouch. I am not sure I could do that.

I pulled mine off first of all (with tweezers) and it grew back!

I've had a couple removed in a salon using advanced electrolysis - one from my neck and the other at the side of my eye. One on neck has gone completely, the one by my eye has left a very small mark that can be easily covered if I feel the need. Don't often bother cos it's not really noticeable compared to the tag that was there before. Not all places do advanced electrolysis.

The NHS won't do it unless it's for medical reasons e.g. if it's making you depressed or if it's being irritated when shaving for example (obviously doesn't apply to eye!). If it's purely cosmetic, they'll tell you to go private.

threeleftfeet · 10/04/2012 20:12

Not necessarily suebfg.

As I said upthread, when I showed the skin tag on my face to my GP he courterised it (still can't spell that!) there and then.

He's an NHS GP.

Perhaps it makes a difference if it's on your face?

suebfg · 10/04/2012 20:29

Mine was on my face so I don't think that is the distinguishing factor. Perhaps if it's something quick to remove, they'll just do it as you say. But if it needs more surgical treatment, they won't do it unless it's for medical reasons. Also, your GP won't be using laser etc so scarring may be a factor to bear in mind.

Perhaps it's that mine was a very experienced (nearing retirement) GP, who's known me since I was 2?

Perhaps a less experienced GP wouldn't want to do it themselves?

Who knows?!

threeleftfeet · 10/04/2012 21:56

Perhaps it's not standard practice but he did it anyway?
