Jigsaw and Kew- anyone else a bit fed up?

Jigsaw has become so expensive- many dresses almost £200 and Kew has lost the plot IMO- weird or frumpy.

Both places are good for basics but aside from the very occasional dress or coat most of it looks like something my granny would wear. Agreed, fed up with overpriced stuff they are churning out!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 05/04/2012 09:26

They've been like that for years haven't they?
I do drop in from time to time as I sometimes find the odd gem, but Kew is mainly frumpy and Jigsaw overpriced and often drab.

flightofthe7millionbumblebees · 05/04/2012 09:51

They've had a sad slow decline into rubbishness. I haven't been in either for at least 5 years now.

flightofthe7millionbumblebees · 05/04/2012 09:52

And yes, drab, frumpy and overpriced are the words.

higgle · 05/04/2012 09:52

I rather like Jigsaw, especially the knitwear, but it is annoying that when the other similar brands like Phase Eight often have good offers and decent sales Jigsaw always makes very meagre reductions at the last possible moment. I do have a couple of jigsaw T shirts that cost nearly £40 each but they are so much nicer and better fitting and more lovely than any others I have they were worth it, and an amazing cardi with a silk bustle effect at the back. DH rather likes Jigsaw as the Bath shop has enormous purple velvet sofas for those who are not interested in shopping to rest on.

novelsituation · 05/04/2012 09:56

I've had some brilliant things from Jigsaw over the years which last and last due to their excellent quality. Would agree that some designs can be horrifically frumpy.

MyleeneCrass · 05/04/2012 10:13

The first kew 159 collection was good but they have gone back to their previous form

ameliagrey · 05/04/2012 10:25

I recently bought a Jigsaw dress for £79- £40 off and was pleased.

But I find it all a bit too smart for my lifestyle- work from home in a creative job so hardly need smart clothes. But I agree the knitwear is good, and T shirts etc- and look out for the sales.

I also got a gorgeous coat there this winter.

But Kew- oh dear. A few years back they were nice but now I really cannot see who they are aiming at- again, pick up the odd cardi or T shirt type top but nothing else.

I'm about to take back a jigsaw dress (£125) which has some faults in the fabric and has developed a 'ladder' after two wears and one hand wash. I got it from John Lewis so hopefully they'll be sympathetic. I won't be replacing it with another jigsaw dress.

GeorginaWorsley · 05/04/2012 12:51

Agree Kew totally lost its way.
I used to get a few tops/cardis/skirts from them each year but cannot see much this season at all.Not sure what the re brand was all about, unless to compete with Hobbs NW3?

Jigsaw do good tee shirts and tops as said above, bought a navy cowl neck one in John Lewis concession last year, but pricy at around £40.
Also agree with whoever mentioned the lack of promotions/sales/discount codes.
I find Phase Eight better value for similar quality.

stringbean · 05/04/2012 13:34

I've only just discovered Jigsaw and love their knitwear and basics but agree its pricey. I have bought a couple of things that looked like a sack on the hanger but great once on, but do find some of their dresses a bit frumpy. Just wish they had more sales/promotions. Even Hobbs is doing a bit more of that this year. The most Jigsaw ever does is free delivery.....

lumbago · 02/05/2012 18:44

Out local Kew turned into a Jigsaw and prices rocketd.
really odd.
dont go in there now.

lumbago · 02/05/2012 18:45

in kew a viscose top i liked was SEVENTY POUNDS

UntamedShrew · 02/05/2012 18:48

I got some lovely stuff in jigsaw recently and it's all wearing and washing really well, so I don't mind paying a bit more for it.

Kew though is going through a frumpsville phase. I used to shop there a lot but can't even be bothered to go in now - and it's on my road!

Sonotkylie · 02/05/2012 18:59

Still like some pieces in each but the prices! Bring's out my mother in me (and for that I cannot forgive them)

Sonotkylie · 02/05/2012 19:00

And thanks for the thread, I thought it was just me!

EldonAve · 02/05/2012 20:09

kew is truly dreadful

AppleHEAD · 02/05/2012 20:22

I used to buy a lot in Jigsaw but now the prices are insane. My local Kew has also become a Jigsaw which is sad. I have looked at the Kew website and been very unimpressed. I have a lot of Jigsaw clothes which I got pre kids and love but now the prices are so insane I won't even bother going in again.

ameliagrey · 02/05/2012 21:18

I don't know how Jigsaw keep afloat TBH.

Their clothes are heavily discounted in their sales- sometimes at giveaway prices, so how much they sell at full price is anyone's guess.

I'm afraid i think they have 2 styles only- the fitted shift dress for smart wear and the droopy baggy dress for more casual wear.

As I am petite I find that most of their styles swamp me - just too much material or too dressy for my lifestyle.

margoandjerry · 02/05/2012 21:22

drab. And also shocking lighting in our local Jigsaw which doesn't help when everything is sort of muddy dun colour anyway.

OB1Kenobi · 02/05/2012 21:26

I was in my local Kew during the week and the Manageress told me that they are going to be closing down most of the Kew shops over the next year. Apparently the company want to focus on and expand Jigsaw Menswear.

stringbean · 03/05/2012 15:30

If you do like Jigsaw but don't like the prices, new unused stuff comes up on eBay quite frequently. I've just bought a half price Breton top from this season's range (new/unworn) and a silk t-shirt for £15 (current season, £65, also new with tags) [smug emoticon]!

lumbago · 03/05/2012 19:09

Link!

stringbean · 04/05/2012 09:28

Well, I'm watching this and this at the moment. Wouldn't pay full price for them but there are bargains to be had if it's something I think I'll get a lot of wear out of.

BettyBathroom · 04/05/2012 09:57

I used to shop in Jigsaw quite a bit but found their tops & knitwear did not wash well. Knitwear went bobbly and shrank, and their t-shirts did that odd thing where they got shorter and wider. Bought a brown coat and it faded really badly - the dyes were either poorly tested or just cheap rubbish. It's too expensive for the quality offered.
