Need a forgiving swimming costume...

I'm going on a hen do this month and have found out there is a hot tub there that we will be making use of!

I had my DD in January and haven't lost all the weight yet and am fairly 'saggy' round the tummy area, as well as being bedecked with an impressive arrangement of stretch marks. I'd probably need a size 14 as long as the cut isn't too stingy.

Also as I'm on maternity leave I haven't got masses of cash to be spending on this so price is definitely a consideration.

Can anyone recommend a magic swimming cossie that will turn me if not into a beach babe then at least not like something at risk of being harpooned? Wink

I searched high and low, including net a porter, and found one in Primark for £13! it's black/blue leopardy print, has ruched effect across stomach;
they also have a tankini in same print, but they didnt have the top in a large in my store, or I would have got it!

gregssausageroll · 04/04/2012 20:25

Have a look at the tummy control stuff in M&S. I bought 2. I am a size 16/18 with big norks and I felt pretty good in them.

HairyButtMonkey · 04/04/2012 20:30

A tankini is what you need. I recommend bravissimo although they are not that cheap

40notTrendy · 04/04/2012 20:33

I saw a woman in a fantastic cozzie recently, really flattering and a zebra print type thing. It was from New Look, so might be worth looking there.

PippiL · 04/04/2012 20:36

Tankinis not great for a wobbly tum as in the water they ride up letting belly flop out.

I speak from experience unfortunately.

orienteerer · 04/04/2012 20:36

Zoggs

DawnOfTheDee · 04/04/2012 20:40

Thanks for the tips ladies! I have an M&S gift card left over from Christmas i think so i might have a look in there if when i get the chance to go into town. Otherwise will try New Look/Primani as they are fairly reliable and cheap!

haven't heard of zoggs but am looking at their website now. Am wary of ordering stuff without a chance to try it on first though.

BHS (I know!!!) But truly fab magic tummy ones. Mines bright pink, they do turquoise, black and gross patterns too.£22. V v v flattering.

pocketandsweet · 04/04/2012 20:49

I bought the Boden retro swimsuit last summer and I am pretty pleased with it.... Exposing my tummy is definitely not on the cards and I have found tankinis constantly are threatening to roll up. They are also on sale now

Hetaera · 04/04/2012 20:53

I cannot even begin to tell you how absolutely lovely this looks on. You've got a choice of cup sizes in the 14 and it is really, really worth trying.

DawnOfTheDee · 04/04/2012 20:54

Ooooh am v tempted by the boden retro swimsuit....only thing is reading reviews i'm not sure what size i'd need and don't know if i have enough time to send back if i get the wrong one.

May have to done wig and dark glasses and venture into bhs Wink

ettiketti · 04/04/2012 21:32

this its much more flattering in real life I promise Blush

gregssausageroll · 04/04/2012 21:35

this is the markies one

i have in black and navy

sobenobu · 04/04/2012 21:40

I've got both the M&S one and the Boden one.
The Boden one I find, without the ruching, is strangely more flattering than the M&S one.

blondieminx · 04/04/2012 21:50

I have a very crepey stomach post dd... I find tummy control Is now essential Sad Definitely avoid tankinis, the poster up thread is right. I've just ordered 2 new ones from debenhams including this

Have a fab time at the hen weekend Smile

pocketandsweet · 05/04/2012 08:56

if it helps you choose size... I'm a 14-16 and I have the Boden retro suit in 14 and it fits fine. I think it is really pretty flattering and it must be a bit generously sized since I would probably fit a 16 in most shops.

AngryFeet · 05/04/2012 09:06

Sorry but unless you have small hips and thighs I would avoid the ones like in the Evans link above and go for something a bit higher cut or it will emphasise any bad areas. I think something with a print would be best. Not sure about the tunny control ones. I tried one and it was uncomfortable and I had to squeeze into it and it made my thighs bulge unattractively.

myron · 05/04/2012 09:47

I have last year's versions of the Boden retro suit and the black M&S one both in size 12. The Boden one is more like a size 14 imo so size down for Boden.

Oops, formatting of link not great but it does work :)

And I see actually that a PP already linked to us :) We aren't cheap but the swimsuits last forever with proper care so it is very good value.

DawnOfTheDee · 05/04/2012 20:51

They are gorgeous vix and if i could get one i would. Just not possible at the moment Sad
