Need a forgiving swimming costume...

I'm going on a hen do this month and have found out there is a hot tub there that we will be making use of!

I had my DD in January and haven't lost all the weight yet and am fairly 'saggy' round the tummy area, as well as being bedecked with an impressive arrangement of stretch marks. I'd probably need a size 14 as long as the cut isn't too stingy.

Also as I'm on maternity leave I haven't got masses of cash to be spending on this so price is definitely a consideration.

Can anyone recommend a magic swimming cossie that will turn me if not into a beach babe then at least not like something at risk of being harpooned? Wink

My advice would be to look for one that has rushing at the tummy and preferably some power mesh to keep you feeling trim :) Happy hunting!

Another vote for M and S; I got one of their tummy control black ones and it's really flattering. And I'd vote against a tankini: every time you lift your arms, there areyour stretchmarks...

I really rate Speedo costumes as the best.

I know its a sporty look, but as they're designed to stay firmly in place while you are swimming seriously, they tend to be good at bulge control too IYSWIM.

i had a gorgeous one from Asda last year which is now a bit big for me so doesnt hold me in as much.

This is quite nice though.

This quite similar.

dixiejo · 05/04/2012 22:28

happened upon this thread and i have to say you have lush swimsiuts, vic206. i have bookmarked for future reference!!

Moodykat · 05/04/2012 22:30

I've got a great Asda control one. It's blue and White spot, halter neck and very flattering!

dizzy77 · 05/04/2012 22:39

I am quite a lumpy pear shape eithout masses in the nork dept. I have two rules when buying cozzies (I swim a lot).

  1. Tankinis so called because they make me look like a tank.
  1. Navy blue is a much more flattering colour to milk bottle fair Caucasian skin tone.

If I were to have a third rule, it would be that halter tops are the boss for non-training (ie hot tub etc) wear. And don't try to tumble turn in anything padded or side tying Blush.

dizzy77 · 05/04/2012 22:41

*without. And I'm with skinny on the speedos as I wear them for training. Their sizes are a bit terrifying though, think I need a 44 with size 14 hips.

Aboutlastnight · 05/04/2012 22:45

Moodykat those Asda ones are lovely.

megabored · 05/04/2012 22:46

I've tried on about 6 of the m&s ones all in size 14. The tummy control ones make you bulge in othr places. Hmm
Also, I have size E boobs and I could not hold them in firmly in any of their costumes.

3 years ago I got a very nice brown s
Dotty costume from bhs but sadly it did not survive being worn everyweek for 2 years. I think the Ruched styles are more flattering then tummy control. I really like some of the links on here. Thank you ladies!

startail · 05/04/2012 23:35

I'm a 16, but small of boob and speedo are always my first choice, Arena and M&S etc are not as supportive fabric. Speedo mean you to swim in them , they don't give when wet. (google swimstop for a good selection, me and the DDs nave had stuff from there several times. The Maru ones are gorgeous colours and last as well as the speedo ones, but some are very high cut. Better on size 12 DD1 than me).

One word of warning speedo endurance fabric is slightly thicker, brilliantly supportive, but not as stretchy. If you are a big 14 order a 16 as well. DD1 has won my nice purple one it's slightly uncomfortable on me.

Finallygotaroundtoit · 06/04/2012 07:48

Landsend have some nice control swimsuits - available at Debenhams

Finallygotaroundtoit · 06/04/2012 07:53

Agree about the fabric - I have a Zoggs suit which is paper thin. look for something that has a Spanx type lining

TheCinnamonGiraffe · 06/04/2012 17:38

I love this one vix206!! Ever since I have been bigger than a D cup (at least 2 decades ago) I have only ever worn sized swimwear though, once I have lost the last bits of my baby weight, I might if I am lucky get down to a F/FF...

Do you think they would do a bigger than an F cup version...or even sized ones to order (or would that be really expensive?)?

...sorry to hijack...

ImperialBlether · 06/04/2012 18:06

Vix, they are gorgeous and if my diet pans out the way I hope, I'm going to buy one! Have bookmarked the site.

vix206 · 06/04/2012 20:11

Cinnamon, we don't make them ourselves they are made in the USA and they've been made exactly the same since the 1950's so I don't think so I'm afraid. I was a 32FF size 10 before I had DS and I used to wear the size 14 to accommodate the bust. They are clingy and stretchy elsewhere thanks to the power mesh so going up 2 sizes didn't make it ill fitting everywhere else. But my mum is a size 14 38F and even the size 18 squashes her boobs so it doesn't work for everyone :)
