Just wondering what mumsnet verdict is on footless tights under dresses this summer?

Don they're not for wearing in summer- they're for now, while legs are still pale blue and slightly hairy round the knee caps.

Once the temp goes over 65 degrees , I'm getting my pins out for everyone to enjoy

DonInKillerHeels · 03/04/2012 12:15

They are still ETERNALLY foul, whatever time of year you wear them. Besides, have you noticed the title of the thread??? It says SUMMER.

cybbo · 03/04/2012 12:17

You are entitled to your opinion

But its wrong

DonInKillerHeels · 03/04/2012 12:21

When they go fully out of fashion, as they inevitably will, you will realise just how right I am. They make the skinniest legs look like sausages. Bleugh.

cybbo · 03/04/2012 12:23

W R O N G

And who wears killer heels? Sooo last decade

sedgieloo · 03/04/2012 13:31

Hmmmm I think the answer to this is no (to footless tights/lightweight leggings under dresses) don't do it. A few summers ago looked OK...

but I want the answer to be: Yes it looks current and cool!!! Because I'm personally going to have a big-puffy-juicy-of-thigh-pregnant summer and picture gusts of wind up billowy maternity dresses exposing more leg than I'd like - and this tights thing affords one a bit of modesty.

noddyholder · 03/04/2012 13:37

I don't think nice fine ones look awful (and I am not talking leggings and monsoon 'ethnic' tunic here) actual footless 'tights' with a dress looks stylish

pussweasel · 03/04/2012 13:48

Yes - I agree with Noddy they can look stylish! I am planning to get some for this summer as I have just turned 50 and have noticed recently that I have a lot of unsightly red thread veins appearing on my lower leg area but have a lot of nice dresses that I don't want to give up wearing.

Go for it - especially if it makes you feel more comfortable out and about.

GhastlyBespoke · 03/04/2012 13:55

Are court shoes and Ballet flats different/same? If same what do you wear with footless tights? ( sorry I'm just considering ditching jeans for something a little.. Ahem ... Waftier)

sedgieloo · 03/04/2012 14:03

I thought court shoes are formal looking heels like wot Kate Middleton wears.

I need some links to these nice very acceptable footless tights and some colour combination ideas so I can come around to the idea.

pussweasel · 03/04/2012 14:11

I have seen mums at the school wearing them with ballet flats and its looks fine. I am going to wear with Fly London wedgie sandals.

Court shoes are standard lowish (rather than very high heeled) heeled shoes with enclosed toes www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Navigate?ps=&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&x=0&y=0&txt=Court+Shoes&CMP=KNC-GoogleAd-Generics&tmcampid=43&tmad=c&_$ja=kw:court+shoes|cgn:Womens+Court+Shoes|cgid:3283748620|tsid:31583|cn:Womens+Shoes+-+Generics|cid:89054380|lid:49533432|mt:Exact|nw:search|crid:22297340140

Pinot · 03/04/2012 15:01

Court shoes are sensible and dull. With a medium heel and in navy, ideally. YUCK.

I shall wear my leggings and defy the haterz even in summer if I wanna

drywhiteplease · 03/04/2012 17:49

I bought these
footless tights
To wear with a black jersey wrap dress.
Personally I would not wear leggings/ footless tights with anything shorter than knee length.
With ballerinas or gladiators they look good.
My rule of thumb is would I wear this length tunic/dress with tights? If answer is no I won't wear it with leggings or footless tights.
And definitely no no no to leggings worn with short tops with VPL......a huge crime against fashion.

Pinot · 03/04/2012 19:23

a crime against me eyes, let alone fashion.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/04/2012 19:32

'never wear court shoes with them' Bugger that! Although I don't have any of what I suspect you mean by court shoes e.g. really old-lady ones.Mine are more this kind of thing.

I love footless tights; so versatile because you can wear them with open-toe shoes as well as closed, and it's easier to walk in heels if your feet are bare.

I'm going to wear mine for as long as I possibly can, but do agree that once the weather gets just a little warmer you may feel a bit, um, sticky in them.

GlendragonParade · 03/04/2012 19:33

Court shoes are the height of vile 80s office wear.

I'm no guru but I'd say yes to footless tights, as long as the dress was at least knee length / you are very thin and young.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/04/2012 19:35

'the height of vile 80s office wear.' Shock Mine aren't!

Pinot · 03/04/2012 19:41

I don't think yours are vile enough to be court shoes, lovely LadyC. They are (by my definition anyway) heels, just that.

They need to be úber dull and a bit plastciky to be court shoes.

Pinkflipflop · 03/04/2012 19:42

Could those of you who do approve of footless tights link to the type of dress that you would wear with them? I was thinking this type of thing

www.frenchconnection.com/product/Woman+Collections+Dresses/71BB7/Animal+Instincts+Dress.htm with these www.tightsplease.co.uk/brands/pamela-mann/3d-footless-tights/ in dove grey

Disaster?

OP posts:
cybbo · 03/04/2012 19:43

Yes ladyC yours are too nice to be considered a clasic court shoe

Court shoes de rigeur are navy blue, with a horrid heel and are sold in Markses or Next in 1993

here you go

GlendragonParade · 03/04/2012 19:44

x post Lady C. I would agree that yours aren't archetypal court shoes Wink

Pinot · 03/04/2012 19:49

cybbo those are truly vile :o well done

chandellina · 03/04/2012 19:51

I would definitely wear that dress and the tights, will look fab.

dexter73 · 03/04/2012 20:47

I had cybbos courts when I used to work as a receptionist at the local dental surgery about about 20 years ago. They went really well with my mint green skirt and jungle print blouse that was the uniform. I was a total babe!

cybbo · 03/04/2012 21:44

I had them when I first worked for next. WIth 10 denier tights, a split knee length skirt and gilt buttoned blazer
