Calling all apples! What to wear when you've a big tum and no bum...

I was just reading another thread about jeans for apples, and noticed one person suggested dresses. I am dying to know which style of dresses since Dressipi has let me down and suggested shift dresses, which I know always cling badly around the tummy and make me look fat.
So, here's my question: fellow apple shaped girls, what makes you look great?

Grin When's the wedding? Maybe start with the footwear and work upwards? Ie is it going to be boots or shoes? Assuming it'll be shoes? If it were me I'd wear close fitting trousers as wide ones make me too rectangular. I had a great pair of kind of skinny trousers that I had from next and wore for my daughters christening with some lovely sparkly heels and a pretty tunic top will try and find link.
chelliebellie · 07/04/2012 13:31

Sorry I haven't done the links properly.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 07/04/2012 17:37

here but might be a bit wintery.

Stresstoimpress · 09/04/2012 11:41

Hi all thanks for advice. Am off on hols for few days. Have ordered loads of stuff which will arrive when I get back

mrsbugsywugsy · 12/04/2012 12:20

apologies if this has been asked but can anyone recommend a swimming costume for apple shapes? My fat belly pretty much rules out bikinis.

I really like the idea of a tankini (easier to change into on the beach, easier to go to the loo, etc), but I'm not sure if they actually suit me as I they seem to expose a white strip of flesh right where I'm at my flabbiest.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 12/04/2012 16:43

Hi mrsbugsy I bought a tanksuit from
Next which looks like a tankini but no danger of exposing the middle Blush it has a halter neck so not great support but the band around the top keeps them in place reasonably well. I'm a 34F and found the 16 ok. Bit of tummy support too. Wore mind for the first time yesterday and felt ok. Which is far from how I usually feel!
here
I got trusty black but it comes in other colours.

Pannacotta · 12/04/2012 16:50

Can anyone recommnend some nice cropped jeans?
I have good legs but struggle with jeans as I have a wide waist and slim hips/thighs.
I love crops but havent had any joy so far - have tried Gap, Next, DP, H&M etc.
Thanks...

CrunchyFrog · 12/04/2012 17:06

musttidy I love that! What size are you around the hips, just wondering if the 16 would hang off my ridiculous non-arse Grin. (I'm a 32FF so basically the same size as you I think)

neverknowinglyunderdressed · 12/04/2012 18:48

I saw on TV once the trick with tights is to snip the waistband almost thru - Which lessons the tightness IYSWIM, although looks a bit strange when in state of semi-undress!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 12/04/2012 18:49

crunchy I'm a size 14 jeans usually. Maybe you shold try a 14? The top would kind of accommodate most boobs as long as you are not looking for too much in the way of security. Id muck around the pool with the kids but would be reluctant to do too much vigorous breaststroke as if

CrunchyFrog · 12/04/2012 19:01

Think I'll have to go for a two piece, dammit. I'm the world's stupidest shape, 8-10 in jeans, 12 in trousers, 16 in tops.

I think I might get board shorts and a tankini top, might give the illusion of some bum. Smile

musttidyupmusttidyup · 12/04/2012 19:16

stuff the bottoms with DCs armbands

helloitsme · 12/04/2012 19:30

crunchy i asked up thread about swimming stuff and everyone ignored it!
but, i do have one good swim outfit myself which is from landsend. Sorry i ca't link as on my phone, but it's basically a tankini with an empire line and a little skirt. You canget them with sorts or normal bikini bottoms too but i liked the skirt and feel really comfortable wearing it even out of the pool. Landsend have a few good designs i think, and their tankini tops are longer and generally don't seem to show any tummy. they are expensive though

mrsbugsywugsy · 12/04/2012 19:52

ooh I like it tidyup! But is it really a one-piece?

I live by the sea and we go to the beach quite often in the summer, and I find a one-piece costume is a pain to change in and out of under a towel when there's a mile long queue for the loos. Which is why I am so tempted by a tankini.

maydaychild · 12/04/2012 21:00

2nd lands end for cossies
I got one from brastrap (sp?) which has a bra inside a takini which is really long in body length.

Do all you apples have long bodies? Tops from M&S don't reach my belly button...

CrunchyFrog · 12/04/2012 21:08

Yep, 5'7 but only need regular length trousers.

mrsbugsywugsy · 12/04/2012 21:57

No, I am short (5'2) with longish legs and a really short body.

Dresses are a nightmare as they usually have too much length on the top half and usually means they come down way too low at the front and I have to wear a vest top underneath. And what is supposed to be the waist sits on my hips. Not that I have a waist anyway.

I spent half my life sewing up straps on vest tops until I discovered petite sizes in next, and even then they only ever seem to have black or white. Sigh.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 14/04/2012 18:29

mrsbugsywugsy maybe you are my body twin?? I am 5'2 and sooo short bodied my rib cage almost touches me hipbone Wink. Same problem with dresses but also I've got a big tum which makes it even harder. An liking tunics though.

maydaychild · 14/04/2012 22:10

So we apples all have good legs. Generally happy with our cleavage.
We need to subdivide into

Long bodies and short bodies!!!
Do our legs match our bodies? Mine do, they are relatively long at 33" inside leg.

Did you know your forearm is the same size as your feet by the way?

(size 5 feet, 5'7" tall. I always stub my toe on the damn buggy)

mrsbugsywugsy · 14/04/2012 23:45

tidyup I like tunics too, and dresses which are fitted on the boobs and loose from the waist down.

I think being short in the body we are never going to have tiny waists as everything gets squished out widthways. Or that's what I tell myself anyway Grin

mayday you have just had me contorting myself to measure my foot against my forearm and you know what, you're right. The inside of my elbow to my wrist is indeed the same length as my foot.

maydaychild · 15/04/2012 21:32
Grin bet you're not the only one
musttidyupmusttidyup · 15/04/2012 22:01

Bloody is too.

mrsbugsywugsy · 15/04/2012 22:13

mayday that was very irresponsible of you, posting that in time for when I got home from the pub!

helloitsme · 24/04/2012 18:07

I saw this on another post and wondered how we had missed it on this thread...
some great advice for apples
though I really don't know where they got the idea we all have big busts from Hmm
