Hi, Im getting married at the end of next week and doing my own makeup. I don't have time to go to the boots counter, but have got a small boots just here.

So, i have always used Dream Matte Mousse in honey beige.
I need a foundation that doesn't shine in all the pictures! Suggestions please? Hopefully under £10 please.

My suggestion would be Bourjois Healthy Mix. Or Rimmel 25 hour.

Eliza22 · 23/03/2012 19:29

Push the boat out.....I'd go for Lancôme Teint Miracle. Just lovely.

cybbo · 23/03/2012 19:31

Please spend more than£10 on your foundation. you will have those photos for the rest of your life

Forget Boots and go to local Dept store, to Chanel counter

ItWasThePenguins · 23/03/2012 20:05

I can't go into town, just have mid size boots here so no dept store unfortunately.

Thanks

If your wedding is just over a week away it might not be the best idea to be trying out new foundations/changing skincare routines etc just incase they make you break out. I'd recommend any experimenting with new products be done earlier to be honest. I would personally suggest sticking to what you know and adding a light dusting of powder to combat shine if that's an issue. Ask someone to look after a bag filled with powder compact, small brush, oil blotting sheets, lipstick etc for you on the day for quick touch ups if and when needed.

ParsleyTheLioness · 23/03/2012 20:39

A primer before your normal foundation might help. Boots no 7 do one, so might be worth a shot.

artydeb · 23/03/2012 20:51

I had graduation photos done a few weeks back and my makeup artist friend who makes up lots of brides suggested this ( and it worked!) for my very shiny skin:
Chanel lumiere matte makeup
Use blotting paper BEFORE you apply your foundation
Set with powder, take a compact and blotting papers with you. Don't use any Mineral product, they're good in natural light but because they reflect light, no good for photos. The chanel is expensive but amazing, if you have any way of getting to a counter its really worth it.

thewife i don't usually wear any makeup, so using it full stop is a change.

I heard that it was the titanium dioxide in some makeup that makes it shiny in pictures and that's what to avoid. Is this true?
I don't normally get shiny in normal light, just in pictures. Really not sure what to do.
Thanks all for your suggestions

and never, ever use touche eclat.

LtheWife · 23/03/2012 21:20

In that case, get thee to boots ASAP with a collection of empty tiny pots and add a small squeeze of a few different foundation testers into them. Once home, apply a stripe of each along the jaw line, go outside and check the colours in daylight. Once you've got the right colour (don't forget you can always mix two shades of the same foundation to get a good colour match if needed), apply a full face, get someone to take a few photos to make sure you're happy with how it looks, then go back and buy the full size the next day (providing it hasn't caused any nasty reactions).

If you let us know your skin type, the kind of coverage you want and any issues I'm sure people will be able to make a few recommendations that are available to you. One things for sure though, you'll want to avoid anything that claims to be illuminating or something along those lines if you want to avoid shine in photos. It might be worth trawling through the boots website to read the descriptions and reviews that are relevant to your skin type to narrow it down before you head to your local store too.

Haha,, good tip thanks!

I have no idea about those sorts of things.. I just usually stick to the same old things.. have used Dream Matte Mousse (honey beige) for years.. bit of natural collection conceler and mascara,, and that's making an effort.

Gah.. soo complicated. Wish I could afford to get it done properly.. but just not an option.

VerityBrulee · 23/03/2012 22:06

I'm just watching the summer one and she says it's perfect for people who don't usually wear make up.

ItWasThePenguins · 23/03/2012 22:25

Btw should mentioned that i tend to have bad skin on lower half of face.
Thanks verity, watching them now.

She also has videos on covering acne scars, etc

Bucharest · 24/03/2012 07:46

Clarins Instant Smooth is a moussey cream, I've been using it for years, and really love it, although am on constant search for Holy Grail....I just ordered some Dior Forever Flawless which gets good reviews.

Def go to Boots with pots. Don't let Estee Lauder woman at you though, you'll be tango'd.

valiumredhead · 24/03/2012 15:08

Even a small Boots will have an 'orange lady' although ours has a very nice orange man and usually they are very helpful.

I did my own make up for my wedding and I am so pleased I did even when I look at pics 10 years on - I did a bloody good job!

I saw a No7 lady who was wonderful and told me all about powder etc and I haven't even a hint of shine in any of the pics so she did a good job!

Can't you stick with your normal foundation but invest in a really good powder?

Second advice about Estee Lauder re foundation - it's crap imo.

valiumredhead · 24/03/2012 15:10

I had a friend you was getting married at the same time I was and I was a bit envious of her professional make up artist she hired - on the day she RUINED her make up and ended up looking like a clown and in tears Sad

I can completely understand why Kate M did her own make up.

valiumredhead · 24/03/2012 15:20

who

nickschick · 24/03/2012 15:26

loreal lumi magique is lovely - thats what im using at the mo £10 in tesco!

Clure · 24/03/2012 15:35

nickschick I have just bought the loreal lumi magique. I'm SO pleased with it, not too heavy and the perfect colour-I have always struggled to get a good colour as my skin is fairly olivey - I end up either looking too orange or chalky!

ItWasThePenguins · 24/03/2012 16:09

Okay, I've put a pic up with the first of my testers from boots trip this morning.

There are only 3people in our store working today, is very small. Has 5 of the sections of makeup.
Got 3 to test atm. One is too pale.
I Like the one in the pic (half of my face) but looks a bit thick. (i have no idea how to apply properly, just rubbing it in with fingers, use sponge wedge with my Mousse, but lost pack, its been that long...)

thanks everyone.

ItWasThePenguins · 24/03/2012 16:19

Oh Im useless at this. Maybe i should get a decent primer and powder and stick with usual foundation?

Got 2 pics up now, not great.

OP posts:
ParsleyTheLioness · 24/03/2012 18:09

IMO (but trained beautician also) the colour of the foundation in the 2nd pic looks a little dark for you. A good foundation should be as near to your own skin tone as possible, and should kind of dissapear. You should not in fact pick a colour you would like to be! If you want a more sunkissed look, it is better achieved with a dusting of bronzer later, and with a light hand...

ItWasThePenguins · 24/03/2012 18:12

Thanks.. I went to Boots with some pots and came home with testers, but it's so dark in there can't tell, and I'm realyl bad at this!
